Two Tivos To Paradise 07.22.01: The 250th Edition of Two Tivos To Paradise!
Posted by Al Norton on 07.21.2011

Hello friends. It seems like just yesterday that I posted the first edition of Two Tivos to Paradise here on 411mania.com. Actually, that's not even close to true, both because it was five years ago and because in that time I've become a Father of two, spent some time working for a real-life newspaper, and, oh year, the columns have actually gotten a helluva lot better (and bigger). Aside from the various doors TTTP has opened for me, it's also been a huge creative outlet, one that has made it easier to work my day job without going crazy.

The roster of folks to thank starts with the usual 411Mania suspects, in particular Leonard Hayhurst (any man who knows 80 Steps to Jonah and recognizes the genius that is Glen Campbell is tops in my book) and Ashish, both of whom allowed me to find my voice via this fine website. The man, the myth, the legend that is Larry Csonka has always gone above and beyond to be supportive. I am also thankful for my talented and passionate co-workers here whose work continues to challenge me to become a better writer.

There's a group of talented individuals we like to call "Friends of TTTP", folks who work in the entertainment industy who have made 3 or more appearances on these pages. Aside from always offering up entertaining and insightful quotes, they also allow the column to reach a wider audience by their presence. The group includes Alison Sweeney, Daniel Fishel, Katee Sackhoff, Mark Schwan, Neal Baer, Shawn Hatosy, Anne Dudek, Matt Iseman, Vik Sahay, James Marsters, Jenni Pulos, Chris Hardwick, Eddie McClintock, Keith Powell, Will Dailey, Adam Richman, Andrew Zimmern, and the King and Queen of TTTP, Joel McHale and Sally Pressman.

There is no doubt that the support of Bill Simmons went a long way towards establishing an audience for me and for that I am forever grateful.

No list of thank you's from this address would be complete without mentioning the TTTP All-Stars, a group of incredibly talented men and women who work in the world of PR and without whom I would never have access to any of the wonderful television folks who have stopped by over the years. Some of them work for PR firms, others doing publicity for networks, but they all make my job a LOT easier, and, to be honest, they all are quite lovely people. While I apologize in advance to anyone I have forgotten, we offer up thanks and praise to Amanda Ruisi, Carrie Simons, Mona Loring, Jordan Borczon, Rebecca Feldbin, Jenni Weinman, Page Bingham, Craig Schneider, Lee Wallman, Annie Chen, Nicole Walther, Mike Liotta, Nicole Chabot, Dominique Grignetti, Cynthia Arntzen, Lisa Goldberg, Morgan DiStefano, Megan Tantillo, Kannie Yu Lupack, Michelle Rosenblatt, Ashley Sandberg, Stephanie Booker, Lauren LaRocca, Jessica Driscoll, Beth Morris, Koko Stanley, Heather Sautter, Samantha Goldstein, Maureen Granados, Lynn Weiss, Elizabeth Much, Stephanie Baumoel, Nicole Graff, Janelle Nazario, and Rachael Wesolowski. There are more, I am sure, but that's what the 300th column will be for!

The Facebook component of TTTP has really grown this past year and interacting with all of you – and watching as you all interact with each other - on a much more regular basis has really reenergized me and my commitment to bringing you the TV news, so while I thank each and every one of you who reads this column, an even bigger thank you goes out to those who are part of the TTTP FB community.

My brother Walter is my biggest fan, my most vocal critic, and one of my best friends. I am sure I have stolen a joke or two from him over the years, so I thank him for that as well as for his support.

I cannot imagine any way I would have even gotten one column finished let alone 250 without Mrs. Tivo. Tina is the love of my life and this and EVERY edition of TTTP is dedicated to her.

So raise a glass if you are news in the all the right ways.

So Bring Your Good Times And Your Laughter, Too, We're Gonna Celebrate Your Party With You
For this anniversary column we continued with our celebrity round up theme from previous years, asking folks to answer the following questions:

*If you could go on a date with any character in TV history, who would it be and why?

* What's your favorite use of music on a TV show? (anything from At This Moment from Family Ties to Baby Come to Me from General Hospital to Lost's beautiful score to Hallelujah on The West Wing)

*You're appearing on Password or Pyramid; who is your celebrity partner?

Some gave us short answers, some went into more detail, and we thank each and every person who took part. As always, these answers were given exclusively to TTTP for use in this column.

Matt Iseman is the co-host of American Ninja Warrior on Spike as well as Style's Clean House. He was also the co-winner of the 2008 Two Tivos To Paradise TV Entertainer of the Year Award. He is such a loyal friend of TTTP that the leadoff spot in our anniversary columns is his as long as he wants it

*Easy choice: Jeannie. She's the ultimate woman: she calls her man "Master", she has magical powers and, if you just need some alone time to play video games, you can put her back in her bottle... that's why men dream about her. Lyla Garrity from Friday Night Lights is a close second, but Derek Jeter got in there first.

*I'd go with "In the Air Tonight" by Miami Vice. As if a Ferrari Testarossa, 5 o'clock stubble and pastel suits weren't cool (and 80s) enough, mix in Phil Collins' timeless masterpiece and you have a definitive TV moment for 13 yr old me. Plus, it's the first time I remember a show using the actual song rather than a cover or Muzak version, truly groundbreaking.

*My first thought is Ben Stein, as he is not dumb... but he speaks way too slowly and that could cost me in Pyramid. Since I'm all about the Benjamins, I'd go with Ken Jeong since, you know, he's a doctor and all and I hear they're smart.

Sasha Roiz has appearances on House, NCIS, The Mentalist, and Lie to Me on his resume but is best known for his portrayal of Sam Adama on Syfy's Caprica. He will be seen this fall on NBC's GRIMM.

*Arthur Fonzerilli. Come on, it's the Fonz...Ayyyyyyyyyy

*Still enjoy CSI's use of "The Who". Love that band.

*My partner would be Kermit the Frog. Or any Muppet that's available.

Charlene Amoia has played Wendy the waitress on How I Met Your Mother since the show premiered and has appeared on Shameless, NCIS: LA, Castle, Criminal Minds, and Glee. She can next be seen on the big screen in American Reunion.

*If I could go on a date with any character in TV history it would either be Johnny Depp from 21 Jump Street or Michael C Hall from Dexter. Michael C Hall because underneath all the violence and anger that he exhibits he seems like a really nice guy and Johnny simply because watching him always makes me happy.

* My favorite use of music on a TV show is the theme song for Weeds, "Little Boxes." The song is a satire about conformist suburban life and I loved how Weeds had a different artist cover it for each episode in the early seasons.

*If I was competing on Password or Pyramid my celebrity partner would be Robin Williams. I don't think I've ever seen a mind work as fast as his. Plus, he would probably have me in stitches the whole time.

Manu Bennett stars as Crixus on Stars' record breaking hit series Spartacus: Blood & Sand

*How could I look beyond Naevia - she my gal.

*Might sound bias but I am really enjoying the music of Joseph LoDuca, who has been writing the score for Spartacus.

*Liam McIntyre, who now plays Spartacus, because he's actually one of those brainy geeks.

Keesha Sharp stars on the hit TBS comedy Are We There Yet?

*All four "Golden Girls" Because the amount of wisdom I would receive would be abundant and the laughter I would receive in the process.....priceless.

*American Idol "Had a Bad Day"

*President Obama because he's articulate, intelligent, and natural comedic timing.

Dan Powell is the executive producer of Comedy Central's animated comedy hit Ugly Americans, now in its second season. He also has worked as a producer and/or writer on The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, and Saturday Night Live.

*Any of the Assistant District Attorneys opposite Sam Waterston on Law & Order. Apparently after Victoria's Secret models retire, they go to practice law for the State of New York.

*The second season of The Sopranos started by bringing viewers up to speed with a brilliant montage under Sinatra's "It was a Very Good Year". Bonus use of the same tune: Homer nostalgically singing "I Drank Some Very Good Beer" as he gives up drinking on The Simpsons.

*Someone old enough to understand this pop culture reference.

Stephen Amell will be a regular on the upcoming season of HBO's Hung. Previously he played Brady on the hit CW series Vampire Diaries.

*One character? Ooooff. I'd have to go with Betty Draper, but only from the episode where she and Don go to Rome in Season 3. Only THAT episode.

*I appreciate the fact Breaking Bad doesn't really use music. (sorry to be abstract)

*Sigourney Weaver. Mainly so I could hang out with Sigourney Weaver.

Jayson Blair has guest spots on Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, Rizzoli & Isles, and Glee on his list of credits but it's his role as Max Owens on the MTV hit comedy The Hard Time of RJ Berger that has been his break out.

*If I could go on a date with anyone in TV history, it would have to be Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) from Friends. She so cute and charming, not to mention downright funny. How can you not fall in love with Rachel from Friends?

*My favorite usage of music on a TV show would have to go to Breaking Bad. I'm more than often blown away by the music choices they produce on the show. They're not afraid to take chances and step out of the box.

*If I was competing on Password or Pyramid and I got to pick a celebrity partner, it'd have to be Bono. He seems like the coolest guy ever.

Tia Mowry has been a steadily working actress for 17 years now, starting with her breakthrough role on Sister, Sister right on through to her current work on BET's record breaking series The Game. She and her twin sister Tamara launch their new Style reality series Tia and Tamara next month.

*Bill Compton from True Blood. I am obsessed with his love for Sookie. I am a true romantic and who wouldn't want to be loved my a vampire who is always protecting you day and night. That's love!

*For some reason I have always loved the theme music to M.A.S.H. Don't ask me why but it always sucked me in to watch the show!

*My celebrity partner on Pyramid would be Doogie Houser! I mean come on he's a genius right?!

Ken Davitian will always be best remembered for his role as Borat's producer Azamat in the movie Borat

*Samantha Stevens, because she is a witch and if I was Darren Stevens, I would use her abilities to make myself tall, dark, and handsome. And her nose twitches.

*The theme to Bonanza, because even after 30 yrs when I hear it, I get a feeling of nostalgia.

*Regis Philbin, because he is old and nuts!

Terry Serpico stars as Col Frank Sherwood on Lifetime's Army Wives

*Mrs Cleaver. I bet she's a wildcat! Cleaver! Hello?!

*The opening number to All in the Family. Those Were the Days? Sets the tone of the country straddling generations

*Ben Stein.

Vik Sahay plays Lester Patel - half of the musical duo Jeffster - on NBC's Chuck

*Elaine, from Seinfeld...you could date on and off for years, she's funny, argumentative, physically aggressive, always up for nosh...and a hell of a dancer --- all things you look for in a girl!

*'Breathe Me', from the finale of Six Feet Under... it was an emotional and mystical anthem for the weaving together of all the characters' last breaths.

*Cherry Jones, known maybe from '24'; thought I saw her on stage ages ago...she radiates perma-über high grade smarts, on and off the screen and stage.

Robert Ulrich is a three time Emmy nominated Casting Director (including noms the last two years for casting Glee) who can currently be seen as a judge on Oxygen's The Glee Project.

*My first choice would be any character Ann-Margret has played in one of her many Emmy nominated roles because I love Ann-Margret. But if you're really looking for a tv "character" I'd have to say Laura Petrie from the old Dick Van Dyke reruns. Oh, I forgot, what about Ivy Crane on Passions (my wife, Kim Johnston Ulrich)

*My favorite use of music on tv would be, without question, GLEE, and not just because I'm it's casting director. The music spans all eras and genres and the covers are genius.

*It would be a close race between Jimmy Fallon, Jon Stewart, and Jane Lynch, but I think Jane Lynch just might win.

Jonathan Kite is one of the stars of the comedy Two Broke Girls, which premieres this fall on CBS. He can also be seen later this summer on the new Fox sketch comedy series In the Flow with Affion Crockett, where his talents as master impressionist will be on full display

*I would like to go out with Kelly Kapowski from Saved By The Bell because I always wanted to try a burger at The Max.

*The theme to Perfect Strangers is an amazing, inspirational anthem that in a way seems too grand for the show's, simple buddy comedy scale. It reminds me of montage music meant to be played only over the pinnacle of the greatest moment in 80's movie comeback history. I actually have the song on my ipod and run to it up Runyon Canyon, a mountain similar to the one Rocky trained on in Rocky III. "Standing tall, on the wings of my dream!" I live by those words. Thank you Balki and Cousin Larry, thank you.

*Stephen Hawking

Aldis Hodge stars on the hit TNT series Leverage.

*Emmanuelle Chiriqui from Entourage.

*I grew up watching Fresh Prince of Bel Air and I loved the title song. To me that was just genius. It was the first time I saw an actor incoporate his musical talent into a television show.

*I'm taking my brother. I am always going to take my brother, Edwin Hodge.

Josh Gates is the host of Syfy's Destination Truth

*Tough call. I'm going to say Blanche Devereaux from The Golden Girls. I'm guaranteed to get lucky. Plus I'll share a late-night slice of cheesecake with Rose and take an awesome walk of shame past Dorothy and Sophia in the morning.

*I was totally blown away by Bear McCreary and Richard Gibbs' music for the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica. It was a huge departure from the source material of the original series. They managed to weave these intricate tailored themes for the characters with a bad-ass orchestral score. Who knew that frame drums and spaceships were a match made in heaven?

*Wait, can I be the celebrity player in this fantasy? If so, I want to be partnered with Phillis from Akron, Ohio. She's a hard-working dental hygienist, devoted wife, and mother of three. And if she wins, the whole clan is headed to Myrtle Beach. Go Phillis!

Anne Dudek is an accomplished stage actress who has become one of TV's top character actors, with roles on Big Love, How I Met Your Mother, Law & Order: SVU, and Mad Men. Her most memorable role as Amber "Cutthroat Bitch" Volakis on House. She currently stars on USA's Covert Affairs.

*The Fonz. That show took up a lot of my time as a child; he was my first dream boyfriend. I remember playing with my neighbor Nicole when I was very, very young and we would have play boyfriends. One of us always got go have Chachi and the other one got The Fonz. It would be a completion of my childhood to go out on a date with him.

*I love theme songs for shows as they can get you pumped up in an almost Pavlovian way. The music from Downton Abbey. I also really love the theme song from Mad Men.

*President Obama.

Richard Christy is an accomplished rock and roll drummer but most probably know him from The Howard Stern Show, where he has worked since 2004.

*Homer Simpson, I'm not gay so it would just be a bro type date but I would love to accompany Homer to Moes during a Treehouse of Horror episode, it would be the most fun and drunkest Halloween ever!

*When the song "Don't Know What You Got Till It's Gone by Cinderella was used on South Park. That was my prom song in 1992 so it has a special place in my hair metal heart!

*Ike from South Park. We wouldn't win but Ike's cuteness would win over the judges and they'd probably just give us the money anyway.

Paula Marshall is one of the more steadily working actress is television the last 10 years, with stints on House, Californication, Nip/Tuck, Veronica Mars, Spin City, and Sports Night as well as starring roles on Gary Unmarried, Cupid, Snoops, and Chicago Sons.

*Don Draper. Why? Isn't it obvious!

*Sia -Breathe Me -Six Feet Under Finale

*David Duchovny, he's really smart!

Doug Reinhardt was a cast member of MTV's pop culture phenomenon The Hills and currently has a best selling fitness/training DVD series, The Reinhardt Kettlebell System.

* Farrah Fawcett's Jill on "Charlie's Angels"

*The theme song from "The Wonder Years" - "I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends" by Joe Cocker

*Mark Zuckerberg

Joe Maddalena is the subject of the Syfy reality series Hollywood Treasure and one of the most recognized experts on historical documents and entertainment industry memorabilia in the world.

*Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie.

*The Hawaii 5-0 theme.

*Sylvester Stallone. The guy is a genius. He's probably one of the best read guys in Hollywood; people don't realize how well read he is. He's a huge student of history and he's a huge Edgar Allen Poe fan. He's probably someone you would never guess but that guy is a walking encyclopedia of knowledge.

Will Dailey is a CBS recording artist whose songs have been used on NCIS, CSI: NY, Gossip Girl, The Hills, 90210, and The Green Room. He is also the official singer/songwriter of TTTP.

*It would have to be Starbuck. Actually that would be a disaster, so I will go with Elaine so that I could possibly hang out with Kramer after.

*Anytime mine gets used.

*James Franco after he gets his second doctorate.

Jenni Pulos has been Bravo's Flipping Out, now in its 5th season, since the show premiered in 2007. She is also an actress, rapper, and voice-artist.

*My dream television date would be Jack Bauer from 24. I love a mysterious man of danger. I mean come on, that would be an exciting date!

*The best use of music on a TV show is The Watch What Happens Live theme song "Andy Cohen's got the 411" rapped by yours truly (sorry to be piggy and choose myself, but it is a great tune)

*My celebrity partner for Pyramid would be Anderson Cooper because he is incredibly intelligent, funny, and easy on the eyes. How could you not choose the "Silver Fox."

Mr. Skin is the creator of the long running and very popular website MrSkin.com.

*Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman, because of her beauty, her grace, her athleticism and that costume. Oh, to make the eagle's wings flap on that breastplate!

*Gene-Gene the Dancing Machine's instrumental theme on The Gong Show, as performed by Milton Delugg and His Band With a Thug. Every aspect of The Gong Show was pure joy to me, from Jaye P. Morgan's double entendres to the buxom beauty in the Hussy t-shirt who'd visit to Chuck Barris forever wiping his nose. The wild, happy energy of all that is embodied by Gene-Gene's boogie moves in perfect time to this irresistible theme music.

*Jackie Gleason as Ralph Kramden. On the Honeymooners episode "The $99,000 Question," Ralph proves he can bone up on any subject. And then, when he inevitably would blow it as my partner on-air, I'd be so bowled over with laughter at his panic and frustration, it would be worth more than any prize the show could give me.

Ryan Hurst stars as Opie Winston on TNT's Sons of Anarchy, a performance which has earned him a Norty Award.

*Buffy Wilson

*TV music/scoring is too conservative in it's overall approach, for my taste. When music is used to not simply support/mirror the visual image...its alchemy. Take more chances, TV! You can DO it!!!

*My Father, actor Rick Hurst was one of the celebrity guests on the $25,000 Pyramid in the early 70's. He and contestant named Frank X. Ford WON the pyramid. Flashfoward, 25 years later. I'm in highschool and begining to make strides in performing/acting under the guidance of a wonderful teacher/mentor. His students call him "Doc" (because of his two PhD's in film and theater) This teacher/mentor turned out to be Frank X. Ford. The $25,000 my father and he won on the show paid for "Doc's" graduate school. Suffice it to say, back to school night was surreal. So, yeah...Its a tie between them two.

James Roday is the Norty nominated star of USA's PSYCH, a show for which he has also written and directed episodes.

*Audrey Horne -- we all saw what she did with that cherry stem.

*Opening Credits, Twin Peaks

*Val Kilmer

Regina King has a host of hit movies on her resume, from Jerry Maguire to Enemy of the State to Ray to Daddy Daycare. She can currently be seen starring on TNT's critically acclaimed series Southland.

*Hmmmm that's tough. The first one that came to mind was ‘Mr. Roarke,' Ricardo Montalban's character on "Fantasy Island." He seems like he'd be like the Dos Equis dude: "The most interesting man in the world."

* I actually like the lack of music on SOUTHLAND. No musical score makes it even more real and gritty.

*Conan O' Brien!

Willie Garson plays Mozzie on USA's White Collar, although he always be closely associated with his role as Stanford on Sex and the City.

*Audrey Hepburn

*Auld Lang Syne, "sex and the city'

*Brian Williams

Mark Schwahn is the creator and executive producer of The CW's One Tree Hill.

Congratulations to Two Tivos To Paradise on your 250th edition. And to think I knew you when you were Two VCR'S To Paradise. They grow up so fast...

*Linda Carter as Wonder Woman? Julie Newmar as Catwoman? Barbara Eden as Genie with an endless supply of wishes? Nah. Give me a pre-Alias Jennifer Garner on the short-lived series Significant Others. Stunning.

*The final sequence of the Season Three finale of One Tree Hill. Led Zeppelin. "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You". I know it's home cooking but the usage is perfect and it was secured against great odds. Proud.

*I suppose logically I should go with someone like Ben Stein, but I'm going with Kate Beckinsale because...well...because I want to sit across from Kate Beckinsale for a while.

Alison Sweeney has been the host of NBC's The Biggest Loser for the last eight seasons and has been playing Sami Brady on Days of Our Lives since 1993.

*Sawyer from Lost. I have SO MANY questions

*Does the Black Eyed Peas performance on Oprah count?! That was pretty special. I got chills

*Jeff Probst. Hands down. The guy has made clue-giving an art form.

Ben Affleck is an actor, writer, and director whose resume includes Oscar & Golden Globe wins + films that have grossed almost $3 billion worldwide.

*Sydney Bristow.

*The theme from MASH

*Jimmy Kimmel

Sally Pressman stars as Roxy on Lifetime's record breaking series Army Wives, although her greater claim to fame may be as the reigning Queen of TTTP, with more appearances than any other female over our 5 year run.

*This question is so tough! I've watched tv for so long and had so many crushes! From Alex P. Keaton on Family Ties, Mike Seaver on Growing Pains, Dwayne Wayne on A Different World, Zack Morris, Dylan McKay to now with Don Draper, Jack and Sawyer. But I think I would go out on a double date Coach Taylor AND Tim Riggins from Friday Night Lights...just double my chances!!! Wow, need to take a breath after that question...

*Well, Glee is a no-brainer answer to outstanding music on a TV show. Every episode, the music gives me chills. But the soundtrack for Grey's Anatomy is pretty inspired as well. But as far as theme songs, they don't make 'em like they used to! My old faves: Three's Company, Who's the Boss, 90210. Still know every word.

*Alec Baldwin. No doubt. I think we'd crush it. And then we'd rub it in the losers' faces!

Joel McHale is the host of The Soup on E! and also stars on NBC's Community. He is a three time Two Tivos to Paradise TV Entertainer of the Year Award winner.

*Anyone from The Rousters. Maybe an all grown up Small Wonder? Wait, Hardcastle. Or McCormick.

*Twin Peaks, from the theme to all the music they used. Also, the opening sequence from the new Battlestar Galactica. And all the music they used on The X-Files. See Al, you finally got a serious answer out of me.

*Allen Ludden.

Al Norton is the creator/writer of Two Tivos to Paradise, husband of Tina, brother of Walter, and proud father of Harry and Genevieve.

*The 12 year old in me wants to say Vicki Stubing but as an adult I think I have to go with Joan Holloway, both for the obvious reasons and also because she can more than hold up anyone's end of a conversation.

*This is toughie as I am torn between Miami Vice's brilliant use of Dire Straits' Brothers in Arms, Colin Hay's Waiting For My Real Life to Begin from the pilot of The Cleaner, and the haunting piano music at the close of every episode of The Incredible Hulk, but in the end I've got to go with Glee; even when the stories let me down, the music is always incredible.

*Betty White, of course.

And there you have it, the 250th edition of TTTP. Can't wait to see what I come up with for 300! Please use the comments section below to give your answers to our three questions!

If you could go on a date with any character in TV history, who would it be and why?
I had a huge crush on Topanga from Boy Meets World when I was a kid but now it would be Annie Edison on Community.

What's your favorite use of music on a TV show?
The entire score from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer's musical episode "Once More With Feeling."

You're appearing on Password or Pyramid; who is your celebrity partner?
According to my parents on the original Password Elizabeth Montgomery was a great player so if she was still alive I'd pick her.

Congrats Al! It was an honor to take part in this column last year after winning the Facebook contest, so I'll throw my answers out again:

*If you could go on a date with any character in TV history, who would it be and why?

Can it be a double date? If so I would take Temperance Brennan from Bones and her real life sister Zooey from the upcoming show The New Girl. Why? Nefarios reasons.......

Honorable Mention - Captain Jack Harkness from TorchWood; I'm sure he has some great stories to tell.

* What's your favorite use of music on a TV show? (anything from At This Moment from Family Ties to Baby Come to Me from General Hospital to Lost's beautiful score to Hallelujah on The West Wing)

Tough one, but two moments from Nip/Tuck jump out.

1). Rocketman by Elton John playing over the suicide scene, especially when it is revealed that Sean is there as well.

2). All I Know by Art Garfunkel playing over the final moments of the season two finale. Absolutely perfect...

Honorable mention - All Along the Watchtower in BSG - chilling...

*You're appearing on Password or Pyramid; who is your celebrity partner?

Matthew Gray Gubler (Spencer Reid on Criminal Minds) He is a fascinating person, seems really cool, and is a genius in real life with a photographic memory.

Honorable mention - Dr. Steve Brule from Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job! and Check it Out! It would be great to see him even try and comprehend the point of the game...

Supernatural has done some incredible work with its music, but here are the three absolute best examples I can think of:

1) Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper" during season 1's "Faith". It plays as while they go back and forth between Dean telling Sam that they're dealing with a Reaper, and showing the Reaper chase a jogger through a forest.

2) Kansas' "Carry On Wayward Son" during the extended montage of previous scenes from every season finale.

3) Queensryche's "Silent Lucidity" from the end of the season 2 episode "Heart" when Sam has to go kill the werewolf, while she is in human form, who he slept with. You only see Dean as Sam goes into the other room, and the reaction Dean has when he hears the gunshot, and the anguish on his face, is fantastic.

1. Veronica Mars
2. The music of Supernatural or Homicide: Life on the Street
3. Jay Leno

For music, the answer for me comes from Supernatural. In season two, the episode when the brothers are trapped in the bank by the FBI, "Renegade" by Styx is played as they finally escape. The beats of the song match their steps as they run up the stairs, and it just works.
