CRAZIEST CASTING RUMOR OF THE WEEK!
While the project is still searching for a leading man for the frontlines of 300: Battle of Artemisia, the prequel to Zack Snyder's 2006 graphic novel adaptation, a female lead has been found for the titular goddess. Heat Vision has word that Eva Green (Perfect Sense, Casino Royale), is in talks to play Artemisia, a ruthless, golden goddess who persuades Xerxes to amass his army and helps lead them into battle. The story itself follows Xerxes as he leads his army against Greek forces, who have little training but are under the guidance of a general named Themistocles, a role that Joel Edgerton is rumored to be up for.

YOUGOTTABEKIDDINME!
Paramount Pictures has unveiled a new logo that commemorates the studio's 100th Anniversary in show business. The new logo can be seen on Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol. Funny enough, they hit 100 in 2012; Paramount was found in 1912 by the Famous Players Film Company.

Pretty spiffy.

Let's get into the REAL news!

All Spidey, All the Time!
Sony has gone live with the official site for The Amazing Spider-Man. The site contains new pics along with character descriptions and a rather broad plot synopsis, which I've put some tidbits below. The site also confirms that this is the first film in a new series of Spider-Man films; not like anyone expected otherwise.

The Plot
Like most teenagers his age, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he to be the person he is today. In his journey to put the pieces of his past together he uncovers a secret that his father held... a secret that will ultimately shape his destiny as Spider-Man. This is the first in a series of movies that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story. On July 3rd, 2012, the untold story begins.

Peter Parker
Ever since Peter's parents disappeared 13 years ago, he has struggled to find his purpose in life. Now, on the brink of unlocking the mystery about what happened to them, he must face the ultimate challenge - one that has been created within the laboratories of Oscorp.

Gwen Stacy
Smart, charismatic and rebellious, Gwen is the chief intern at Oscorp, a position she takes very seriously. But her life takes a complicated turn as she watches both her boyfriend, Peter, and her mentor, Dr. Connors, undergo radical transformations.

Captain Stacy
An esteemed police officer for over twenty years, Captain Stacy is the public face of the NYPD who leads the department's investigation into Spider-Man's vigilantism. The only thing Captain Stacy vows to protect more than the city is his family - and particularly his only daughter, Gwen.

Dr. Curt Connors
One of the leading scientific minds, Dr. Connors attempts to engineer a revolutionary regeneration serum to help re-grow limbs and human tissue. His motivations are unclear as to why he elects to be the first human test subject - but what becomes evident is that something goes horribly wrong.

So Sayeth Portman!
Word is Natalie Portman is not happy. There's a very interesting article on Hollywood Reporter, a usual reliable source, about the recent news that Patty Jenkins would no longer be directing Marvel's Thor 2. It was reported a few weeks ago simply that she would no longer be directing but would hang around at Marvel, now word comes out that she was apparently fired, for unclear reasons although the original report stated "creative differences". Now comes word that apparently something is going on, as none other than Portman is now essentially up in arms, or "deeply upset", that she was let go.

No other word but one can guess she was a big supporter of Jenkins. Although Portmans is a well known and respected name, her importance to the Thor project isn't crucial if the situation starts to escalate.

G.I. Joe on the Go!
I know this didn't come out over the weekend but I wanted to get your feedback on the trailer that hit last Tuesday for the sequel G.I. Joe: Retailiation. It's picked up surprisingly good buzz and looks to get the franchise on the right track.

Warner Not Happy!
Warner Bros. is apparently "annoyed" with The Dark Knight Rises prologue box office boost that was given to Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol The root of the annoyance is over missing out on the opportunity to attach said prologue to Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, which has underperformed after Ghost Protocol was given a huge boost by the six minutes of footage.

Deadline report that Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is expected to take considerably less than the previous instalment in the franchise (Sherlock Holmes made $62.3M vs. A Game of Shadows' expected $40M). Warner Bros. has responded to these figures, pointing out that the last one actually opened up during Christmas when children were out of school and are confident that they'll be able to make up the difference in the coming weeks. Not a good sign when the studio starts rolling out the excuses.

Meanwhile, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol has exceeded expectations, helped by the higher IMAX ticket prices and prologue. However, Warner Bros. are extremely annoyed with what a boost the six minutes of footage has given to Paramount as they were unable to book A Game of Shadows into IMAX. This resulted in them obviously being unable to pair the prologue with their own product, missing out on an easy and free marketing opportunity. However, they have of course attached a new trailer to Holmes, possibly explaining their reluctance to release it online in a bid to earn some extra money from the hype surrounding the movie and from those unable to make it to one of the limited number of 70MM screens.

Is there "annoyance" justified?

Hello Mr. Bond!
Job stability. Daniel Craig is set to be offered a deal that would make him the longest-running James Bond of all time. The People reports that producer Michael G Wilson wants Craig to sign up for five more Bond films. That would put his run at eight films, one more than the current record-holder in Roger Moore.

"It's certainly something we'll be discussing with him once we finish shooting Skyfall," said Wilson. "Filming has gone very well and I'd love Daniel to surpass Roger's record and do eight pictures."

He added, "There's really no one more passionate about making these films work than him – he's a film maker's dream. A lot of people have said Daniel's been their favourite Bond since Sean Connery and I can't argue with them. He's doing a great job."

The deal is believed to be one that would net Craig over £8 million per film. I'll admit that when they first announced Craig was going to take over the Bond franchise I was skeptical. But he has proven to be a great bond and injected the franchise with energy.

* How do you explain Sherlock Holmes' soft box office?

* With Mission Impossible doing very well in it's limited opening, what do you project it's totals will be next weekend?

I can see the MI4 being in IMAX as a contributing factor in SH2's low box office as well as the studio's reasoning for it.

That GI Joe trailer is pretty fun. The first film couldn't have been more forgettable and blah, but this one could be a lot better. Rock looks right at him, and Willis appearance late in the trailer is pretty cool. The Cobra banners over the White House is an effective visual.

How dare anyone list Ernest Saves Xmas on a list of worst Xmas movies.

I gotta admit, I'm liking the GI Joe trailer. I thought the first one would have been an alright movie had it not had the GI Joe name, but this one looks good, so far.

Batman, I dunno, I'm not excited for it. I'm sure it'll be good, just not excited. I'll definately see it, though, probably opening night.

The best part of the GI JOE trailer is that Channing Tatum gets killed.
