Posted by Steve Gustafson on 01.30.2012

QUESTION OF THE WEEK!
Word just came out that Brian Bertino is set to take on a "found footage" film. Shock Till You Drop reported that the film is tentatively titled Mockingbird and that Bertino is also writing the project. The film is about a couple who receive a video camera with a document of strict instructions. If they don't follow the rules, they're told someone will die. The film will follow their hellish ordeal as they do what they are told. Shooting is set to begin next month, with casting currently underway.

My question to you: Are you tired of the "found footage" movie genre?

CRAZIEST CASTING RUMOR OF THE WEEK!
For a little part, this is getting a lot of attention. Sarah Jessica Parker has signed on for an appearance in the upcoming biopic Lovelace, EW reported. She'll play the part of feminist activist Gloria Steinem in the Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman (Howl) film. The Stenheim role, said to essentially be a cameo, was originally to be played Demi Moore, but she was forced to recently drop the project; which is now in production in Los Angeles.

YOUGOTTABEKIDDINME!
Here we go! A Michael Jackson biopic may be in the works, thanks to his friend Brett Ratner. The director is interested in making a movie that shows "the real" Michael Jackson. A source said he met with another friend, Frank Cascio, author of My Friend Michael. That book according to its jacket, "refutes the rumors, lies and accusations that have accumulated over the years" and gave a "candid" look at Jackson. Cascio met Jackson in 1984 and later became his assistant and manager.

A source says that a Jackson movie has "been an idea of Brett's for a while" and "is taking shape." The source adds that it's understandable Ratner would want to do this, given "their close friendship." Ratner said after his death in June 2009: "[Jackson] was the most inspirational person in my life. When you were with him, you really felt like God was within him." The two played pranks on bystanders, watched movies together, and danced at Jackson's Neverland Ranch.

Let's get into the REAL news!

ALL SPIDEY!
Lots of news clips for the web-slinger! Andrew Garfield recently spoke about his role as the lead in The Amazing Spider-Man. Check out the highlights:

* On what aspect of the character he identified with: "I have tried to explore Peter Parker as an orphan. Orphans, I feel, are the strongest human beings on the planet. The amount of things they have to deal with in their lives, is amazing. I have tried to capture how Peter copes with the feelings of being an underdog, his confusions and his self-doubt. This, I hope, has brought, a certain empathy and sensitivity to his character that explains how it helps him become the hero that he eventually turns out to be."

On whether there are any iconic screen moments: "Well yes, there is the first kiss between Peter and his love interest, Gwen Stacy."

On whether the kiss was as hard to do as the stunts: "Well, I got to practise for that - although on my own, I must add (laughs). I practised kissing on my hand, arms and in the mirror. I was just hoping I'll remember how to kiss when the moment comes and not fumble."

* Next up, Sony Pictures will be holding sneak peek events for The Amazing Spider-Man in multiple cities on Monday, February 6th. Displays promoting the events are going up in London, Rio, New York, and Los Angeles!

The URL to sign up for the worldwide events is at TheUntoldStoryBegins.com. The cities participating are Berlin, London, Los Angeles, Madrid, Mexico City, Moscow, New York City, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Rome, Seoul, Sydney and Tokyo. So get on it if you want to get a peek!

* We'll finish with a RUMOR. BestMoviesEverNews.com has run a story claiming that their "trusted sources" have revealed that Garfield's Peter Parker/Spider-Man will make some sort of cameo appearance in Marvel's The Avengers. They say:

"This will be similar to how Wolverine made a quick cameo in X-Men: First Class and Sony's going to make sure to promote their new Spider-man movie any way they can. Andrew's (Garfield) isn't a widely known actor so they want to get his face on everything, including The Avengers even if it's for a couple seconds."

Take that with a grain of salt.

Star Trekking!
With J.J. Abrams' Star Trek sequel production underway, actor Zachary Quinto is ready for the transformation into Spock. E! Online interviewed Quinto at the Producers Guild Awards at the Beverly Hilton recently about the anticipated sequel. "My eyebrows are shaved and I do my hair in a way that people don't know I actually have my horrible Spock hair," he joked about appearing in public. "It's been really great. We've been shooting for a week and a half, and it's been an incredible return to that world."

Did he spill any information? Not really. Quinto was sworn to secrecy about the sequel's plot. The actor did reveal that he just recently saw the script. "It was the middle of December and finally I had to be like, ‘We need to read the script,'" he said. And he did confirm the additional cast members to the film including Benedict Cumberbatch, Peter Weller, and Alice Eve. "All of them have folded in in so beautifully and brought a whole new level of intelligence and sensitivity," he told E! Online.

Occupy Gotham!
Joseph Gordon-Levitt says that The Dark Knight Rises will explore similar themes to the Occupy Wall Street movement. The trailer shows a war brewing between Gotham City's wealthiest and most vulnerable citizens, with Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) criticizing Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) for thinking the rich citizens "could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us". Gordon-Levitt, who will play John Blake, said: "You saw it, man. The trailer isn't misleading and Nolan's not the type of guy to create a trailer that will sell you something other than what the movie is."

He also praised Christopher Nolan's work. He added: "Christopher Nolan got started with Memento and Following, and I would say that The Dark Knight has that same independent spirit, and that's what people love about it. He's able to take that sensibility and care and love for his work, and do it on a really large scale."

Will political tones hurt Batman at the box office?

Avengers Twitter!
Marvel Studios announced that they will be sponsoring a Global Twitter Chat on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 11 a.m. (PST) with cast members and the director of their highly anticipated action-adventure Marvel's The Avengers, opening in theaters on May 4, 2012. The 30-minute live tweeting event features writer/director Joss Whedon and cast members Tom Hiddleston and Clark Gregg.

Fans around the world will be able to participate in the Q&A on Twitter by using the @Avengers handle and the #Avengers hashtag. Participating fans will have the opportunity to see a 10-second tease of the 30-second Super Bowl spot that will air during Super Bowl XLVI on February 5 on NBC. They will also have a chance to answer Avengers trivia for a chance to win Avengers prize packs.

International fans will be able to submit questions for the talent in their native language through a global translation tool provided by Ortsbo.com. The chat will be moderated by Marvel's @Agent_M.

I could go for a Spidey cameo.

Hate to ruin it, but Spidey can't make an avengers
cameo. Sony owns the rights to Spidey. Marvels had to buy back the rights for all the characters in the avengers movie. Hence no Spidey in avengers

Since garfield is such an unknown that would be pretty cool to have a one or two second shot of him in Avengers. Not as Spidey, but a crowd scene or with a camera would be a nice little nod.

"Found Footage" movies were lame from the get go with Blair Witch. Seriously, shame on anyone that pays money for that shit.

Spiderman cameo in Avengers won't happen because the rights are owned by two different studios. If Marvel had their studios up back in the day, it could have happened. Either way, this new and unnecessary Spiderman reboot looks bad(Lizard SWAT men....nothing more needs to be said).

Politics don't mean dick when it comes to the Dark Knight. Its gonna open huge(and I'll be one of those there at midnight) and the only way it doesn't do good is if the movie sucks. Considering I'm one that admits having doubt when Ledger was cast as Joker about the Dark Knight, and then absolutely loving his portrayal and the movie itself, I'm still firmly in the "In Nolan We Trust" camp with that movie. I don't go to fictional movies with any sort of political slant, and couldn't care less about the one they put across in the movie if its entertaining. Its not like some fictional movie is going to make me change my views on facts or anything and while I know the general movie going populace can be moronic, I still see this movie being the biggest hit of 2012...unless again of course it somehow sucks, which again I seriously seriously SERIOUSLY doubt is the case. I mean come on, the dude has made Memento, The Prestige, and Inception besides the two previously awesome and really best Batman flicks....is there really any doubt this movie is going to kick all kinds of ass?????

They can just mention that there is some geeky kid in a spider suit in NYC and show a picture of Andrew Garfield. "CASE CLOSED"

Benedict Cumberbatch is going to be brilliant in Star Trek if his performance as "Sherlock" is anything to go by... If you haven't seen it... Make sure you do

The quote talks about Sony allowing a Spider-man (or perhaps Peter Parker) appearance in order to promote the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man.

A Spider-Man cameo in the Avengers Benefits Marvel as much as it does Sony. How do you think studios secure the rights to a character? They have to pay for it, and getting Spidey back out there is good for all parties involved. It's not like studios are above working together.

Scarlet is so ridiculously hot in that picture.

That's your opinion.

I agree with Todd, just because the rights are owned by different people doesn't mean it couldn't happen. It'd be a great bonus for the avengers movie and a plug for spiderman - I am sure the studios would agree if asked.
