THIS WEEK's BATTLE – The Battle For The WhedonVerse Begins!

Last week's voting: In the play in round, Elisha Cuthbert defeated Amy Adams 407 [62.33%] to 246 [37.67%]. And in the VS round, Elizabeth Banks defeated Charlize Theron 364 [55.07%] to 297 [44.93%]. But at this time, the Elisha Cuthbert vs. Elizabeth Banks match up will have to wait, because today we shall begin our quest to crown the QUEEN of The WhedonVerse.

This week's tournament start, PLEASE READ: Ok, now I know that no matter what I did, people would likely not be happy. But what I want you to do is read and see what happened. Again, I discussed the feature with the column's original owner "The Goose" and we decided that the best way to select the ladies was a blind draw from a hat. We also did the same with the NUMBER of competitors. We landed on 18 for that, which means this week you shall vote on the play in rounds, kind of like the NCAA tournament does now. And then, then we shall fully get the ball rolling. Also, the program I used to make the bracket allowed for "random seeding," which is what I selected and the bracket below is how the program placed the ladies. Again, I know that this isn't like many of you would have done, but I felt that added a fun element to everything as we truly did things random. Now, let's get to work and crown the QUEEN of The WhedonVerse!

REMINDER: The photos are a mere representation, always vote for who YOU feel is the hottest woman

FIVE – JACK WATCHED THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN…NOT SURE IF MARC WEBB IS UNORIGINAL or JUST BIG FAN OF SAM RAMI

O.M.G. SPOILERS LIKELY

So before the big gathering of friends on July 4th, I decided to keep things lazy and go and see a movie, and I chose to see The Amazing Spider-Man. I didn't have a lot of expectations heading into the film, but I will freely admit that I wasn't thrilled about the franchise being re-booted already. But then again, I generally am not a big fan of remakes and re-boots. Here are my thoughts…

The Amazing Spider-Man is a fine, but unremarkable film. There really isn't anything wrong with it on one hand, but on the other hand it feels too much like you're watching Sam Rami's first film instead of a fresh take on the tale. There are obvious changes, the lack of Mary Jane ad such, but so much seems the same. Bullying in high school, the discovery of powers, Uncle Ben, the responsibility speech, the villain who looks to be working for a greater good that turns into the monster. If you know anything about Spider-Man, you already know this going in, and that's what you get. And that was a main complaint from people before they even saw the film; that they did not want to sit through another origin story, but that's what happens.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone did a fair job overall, but I will say that I enjoyed Stone's overall work more that Garfield's. And that is mainly due to the writing. Stone comes off adorable and impossible not to love, while Garfield comes off mostly as, well, an emo bitch. Rhys Ifans does well as Connors, but I wasn't the biggest fan of the CGI and felt that it took away from the film. Come to think about it, the Spider-man CGI wasn't all that "Amazing" either.

At the end of the day, we're likely getting more of the franchise. It did well so far at the box office, and the plan was reportedly for a trilogy. It isn't an "Amazing" film by any means, but it isn't Green Lantern bad as some have stated. They have room for improvement, but overall I felt that the film was around average. I didn't regret paying to see it, but I won't be rushing out to grab the Blu-ray.

FOUR – DEAR WRESTLING FANS, ROCK IS MAKING BANK AND IS SUCCESSFUL, STOP HATING

Fans are a funny thing, they think that just because they like someone and support them that they can tell them what to do with their life. This is especially true with wrestling fans, who like to discuss their favorites "selling Out." Forget that most of the time these guys are just trying to made a better life for themselves, no no, we can't have that. Heaven forbid someone move on and be successful. When guys like CM Punk and Daniel "Bryan Danielson" Bryan finally made the move from ROH and the independents to WWE, they were essentially the anti-Christ. But they made their name, they had a list of great matches, but they wanted to finally get paid. And I cannot blame them for that.

And the same thing happened with The Rock. The Rock "left the business" and went away to make movies, and he got shit on because he didn't want to get his ass beat 200 days a year and actually wanted to make more money. He saw a chance to advance himself, and he took the chance. Have I missed him? Fuck yes, the dude was awesome. Do I like his movies? Most of them, but yes, I do. But I also loved that he was able to come back this past year. But I just do not understand the hate, the "selling out" talk. I just do not understand why people are so upset when the performers that they reportedly "love so much" go on to be more successful in life.

News came out this week that the Rock as the fourth highest-paid actor in Hollywood. The list includes the period between May 2011 and May 2012, and doesn't include Rock's WrestleMania payday. He made $36 million, one million off of Leo DiCaprio and Adam Sandler tied at 2nd. I have to say that I think this is the coolest damn thing. Why? Because he was one of "my guys." I was a huge Rock fan when he wrestled, and while I hated that he left the business, I have been happy for him. I have watched almost all of his films in the theater, because that's what fans do. Rock didn't sell out, the man busted his ass and climbed to another level, which I feel makes people jealous. Can't we just be happy for these people that entertain us? It isn't like Rock left wrestling and went to every fan's house and said, "FUCK OFF… I'M NEVER COMING BACK LOSERS!"

Or maybe he did do that to some of you….

THREE – AMERICA: FUCK YEAH

Yeah, I got nothing this week, so enjoy…

TWO – BEST AND WORST OF THE WEEK

BEST OF THE WEEK – Janet in Accounting: You know, generally in life nothing good ever happens foe me. If there is an error, it is something that hurts instead of helps. But for once, the ball bounced my way at my place of employment. Accounting basically jacked up my vacation stuff, and when I get my paid vacation in August, I will get two weeks off, but will be paid for THREE. This was all possible because of Janet in accounting for finding this colossal fuck up by my company. So just remember, when some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack McGee always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

WORST OF THE WEEK – My Mother-In-Law: Yeah, fuck that bitch…

ONE – WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEKEND

#1 – Saturday at 8PM on MAX-W – Road House: The 1989 film Road House is the definitive film on bad asses and bouncers. The film stars Patrick Swayze as Dalton, the baddest of the bad ass "coolers" in the business. Featuring performances from Terry Funk, Sam Elliot and a pretty sexy Kelly Lynch. Dalton's early successes and budding romance with the local doctor enrages Wesley, the town crime boss. When Dalton continues to defy him, the stage is set for a dramatic confrontation that will test Dalton's limits and decide the fate of the town. The bottom line is that if you haven't watched this movie, turn in you man card, your cool card; hell just give me all of your money because you do not deserve it.

#2 – Saturday at 10PM ET on PPV – UFC 148: While the prelims begin earlier, they do not concern me when it comes to this UFC PPV. UFC 148 is about one fight and one fight only, one of the biggest rematches in the history of MMA, Chael Sonnen vs. Anderson Silva. Nearly two years ago these men met, and while some want to make excuses and say that Silva was nursing injuries and Chael was on illegal TRT, the facts are for 23-minutes Chael Sonnen was taking the fight to Anderson Silva, and he was about to win the title. Until he was careless and Silva locked him in a triangle and won the fight. The shit talk has been fantastic, Silva destroyed Belfort and Okami since then and has looked like the beast he is. But at age 37, and after 35 fights, is he still the same guy? Will he destroy Sonnen as many have predicted, or will Sonnen's superior wrestling expose Silva's poor takedown defense and allow him to gain the victory? I think Silva takes this, but I am fucking amped for this fight. While some of the cards as of late have been a bit thin, this main event is easily enough for me to pay for the whole event.

#3 – Sunday at 3PM on ABC – 2012 Wimbledon Gentlemen's Finals: I love Tennis, I think that Wimbledon is the greatest tournament in all of Tennis, and I watch it every year. This year will be no different.

#4 – Sunday at 8PM ET on PPV – TNA Destination X: And we round out the what to watch with another PPV, this time wrestling. TNA Wrestling has been on a bit of a roll recently and has been a pretty enjoyable product. Sure they still have their mistakes, but I have found myself enjoying their product more than WWE these days. Last year's Destination X PPV was a good event, and this has the makings of also being a good show. Aries vs. Roode as the main event, Joe vs. Angle, Styles vs. Daniels all could steal the show. Add in the X-Division tournament matches with guys like Williams, Dutt, King and others, which will lead to an Ultimate X match, and the potential for a PPV of the year event is there. Sunday is easily booked for me to sit back, relax and enjoy some good stuff.

This week's & 1 model of the week is Jamie Lynn Sigler…
