Box Office Survey!
Instead of me just repeating what you can see, how about we ask some questions about the weekend box office? Answer in the comments!

* Is Kevin Costner still a box office draw?

* Why did Pompeii fail?

Warner Brothers plans to develop Space Jam 2, the sequel to the film that starred Michael Jordan. Only this time, they want Lebron James in the lead role.

In the 1996 film, Jordan helped the Looney Toons defeat an alien race in a basketball game for their freedom. The film grossed over $230 million worldwide that year.

According to Deadline, Charlie and Willie Ebersol will develop the live action/animated sequel under their production company, The Company. The script is written by Willie. Despite studio sources confirming to Deadline, James' sources refute the claims to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

No release date has been set at this time.

My question:

Casting of the Week!
Fox is finalizing the four lead roles in their Fantastic Four reboot, with few surprises. Variety reports that Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Michael B. Jordan will be playing the role of heroes on the team. Teller and Jordan, who have been rumored for quite some time, will (if all offers are accepted) be playing Reed Richards and Johnny Storm while Mara has fully signed on to play Sue Storm. Bell is considered a lock to play the role of Ben Grimm, aka The Thing.

Variety notes that Teller and Bell are not fully signed on yet, but an offer is out to Teller and Bell's offer is all but confirmed. Teller and Mara tested for the roles back in November, with Jordan attached for some time. Bell came in after the script was given some tweaks.

They did confirm that the Josh Trank-directed film will be based on the Ultimate universe version of Fantastic Four, which explains how twenty-six year-old Teller would be chosen for Reed. Fox is now planning to test actors for the lead villain. The film releases on June 19th, 2015.

The debate has been raging online but what are your thoughts?

The Hobbit!
Weta Digital has released a new video in which they show how they turned Benedict Cumberbatch into the dragon Smaug for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Weta's David Clayton also spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the process. Here are highlights:

On what Cumberbatch did to bring Smaug to life: "Using our motion-capture stage, we recorded his performances, which focused on the conversation with Bilbo sequence. Having Benedict in a mocap suit was lots of fun -- for us, and hopefully for him, too -- and seemed to help get him immersed and home in on the character."

On adding Cumberbatch's performance to the animated dragon: "The translation of performance from Benedict to Smaug wasn't a one-to-one match like you'd get from a humanoid creature. They have very different physiologies. As animators we had to transpose the elements of Benedict's performance that were critical to the shot, such as head nuances and facial expressions. We then built up the majority of his motion with keyframe animation."

On the enormity of Smaug: "Smaug needed a formidable presence, so we worked hard to craft impressive poses for his massive body, wings and tail. He also covered a full range of moods -- from supreme arrogance to paranoid suspicion, from curiosity to violent rage. Adding to his versatility as a character was the creation of his hands. We achieved this by adding a thumb and extra forefingers to Smaug's wings."

THR reports that a Warner Bros. greenlight committee is going to decide over the next few weeks whether to move forward on The LEGO Movie 2 and the new Ninjago movie and which film will hit theaters first. Dan Lin and Roy Lee, who produced The LEGO Movie, are also attached to Ninjago.

Any one curious about who sits on this "greenlight committee"?

Warner Bros. reportedly only has the rights to Ninjago and one sequel for The LEGO Movie, after which the producers would be allowed to take the property elsewhere. However, Lin and Lee both have first-look deals at Warners and would likely sit out of any sequels for The LEGO Movie franchise after the first one. LEGO's Ninjago franchise follows a group of mystical ninjas who battle skeleton armies, snake men and Lord Garmadon, an evil warlord who seeks to take over the world.

More Casting for Batman vs Superman!
According to sources, Batman vs Superman is currently looking for a black actor in his early 20s who is also physically fit. Here's the twist: The part is for a small role in the untitled movie AND will be recurring in other upcoming DCU films.

The role also shoots for only a couple of days. Unnamed "sources" say Zack Snyder has met with actor Michael B. Jordan for the role.

What role could it be? I have my guess:

Trailer Talk
Marvel has released the first trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy. The film opens on August 1st and is directed by James Gunn. It Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio del Toro, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Gregg Henry, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel.

Some are praising this as the greatest Marvel release ever while others say this will be the first box office bomb for them.

What do you think?
