OK, who's greeting us this week? None other than Kate Mara! You might know Kate as the sexy political journalist from House of Cards and star of Transcendence (in theaters this NOW), is known for her icy, tough-gal roles.
But in Playboy magazine's May 20Q, Contributing Editor Stephen Rebello explores the actress's softer side and gets her to open up about her famous NFL family, her famous Oscar-nominated sister, and her family's reaction to all those racy sex scenes.
Following are selected quotes from Mara's 20Q (issue on newsstands and i.Playboy.com Friday, April 18, 2014, with the complete interview available at www.playboy.com/katemara):
On being typecast as "icy" and "ruthless": "There's always a reason people get cast in certain roles, so I feel maybe there is something of that underneath. I take all that as a compliment. I don't think of myself as icy, but I'm definitely ambitious. I do think of myself as strong and very driven."
On her lack of sibling rivalry with Oscar-nominated sister, Rooney: "We've never had any kind of competitive thing between us, thank God. We're really close. Would I love to earn an Oscar nomination someday? Of course. But we were all together when we learned Rooney had gotten the nomination, and we all celebrated together. We went to the Oscars together. She and I have auditioned for some of the same parts, and we've actually checked with each other, like, ‘What time is your audition?' because it would be just awkward to see each other there."
On being mistaken for other actresses: "As a redhead, I've been confused with other redheads like Amy Adams—but hey, I'll take that. She's amazing. I had someone come up to me for an autograph and say, ‘I loved you in The Devil Wears Prada,' but no, that's not me either. I've signed autographs, and when I realized they thought I was someone else, I've actually called the other actor to tell them. Maybe I need to start asking who people think I am before I sign."
On what she would do if she could be invisible, just like her upcoming Fantastic Four character, Sue Storm: "I feel I have that power already. I can go almost anywhere and not be recognized. I already do what I want to do and just live my life."
On her sex scenes with Kevin Spacey: "From day two of working with Kevin, I found him just as playful as I am. He would definitely up my game. I tried to get him to laugh by wearing pasties with his face on them. Of course, because Kevin wants to win whatever the game is and because he always wins, he did not laugh. He waited until the director said, ‘Cut' and then he laughed. Kevin has an amazing sense of humor, but he's also a great professional and he's really f**king good at it."
On her family's reaction to those racy sex scenes: "They have a sense of humor about it. They were very upset when I was 19 and had a scene in Nip/Tuck that showed only my back but suggested nudity. I tried to explain that it's acting and part of the craft, and if it's important to the story and tastefully done, I will choose to do certain things. By the time House of Cards came along, my family had dealt with plenty of other difficult things to watch with my career and my sister's career."
On attending NFL games growing up: "Going to a football game in sneakers and jeans, getting drunk with friends—that was so not the experience I ever had. We'd go into the box and sit with my grandma, dressed as nicely as if we were going to church. It was very much a place of business."
On her love of football: "I love the Giants and Steelers so much that I sort of have an agreement on the set that if either team is in the Super Bowl, I have to be off the next day."

PIC OF THE WEEK!
TMZ is reporting that Kate Upton is now denying a previous report by The Sun (via TMZ) in which she was quoted as saying, "I wish I had smaller boobs every day of my life."
Upton is now saying she never said that. Per a post on her Twitter account:
WHAT THE HELL? Tom Cruise is rumored to be dating Orange Is the New Black star Laura Prepon, Page Six reports. "It's the buzz on the set of her show," the insider told the gossip column. Prepon, who plays a lesbian drug dealer on the hit Netflix show, and Cruise, who split with wife Katie Holmes, are trying very hard to keep their relationship a secret, but have reportedly been spotted on multiple occasions.
The British magazine Grazia reported the two were an item as early as last fall. "They spent three hours laughing and joking. It's clear Tom is smitten and after the date he was on cloud nine," the magazine reported. "They had their second date at the restaurant, too, meeting for Sunday brunch, and then she accompanied him a few days later to a dinner party at John [Travolta]'s home."
Reps for both denied the reports, however. Prepon once dated fellow Scientologist and Malcolm in the Middle star Chris Masterson.

R2D2 is the only confirmed Star Wars: Episode VII cast member at the moment, but that hasn't stopped the production from getting underway. J.J. Abrams is reportedly using Abu Dhabi to recreate Tatooine, aka Luke Skywalker's home planet, and set photos from the United Arab Emirates capital have wound up on photo services. As ScreenCrush notes, the picture below is possibly the foot of an All Terrain Armored Transport (or AT-AT). Star Wars is due in theaters on Dec. 18, 2015.
In an interview with IGN, Sylvester Stallone spoke about The Expendables 3, which he said was his attempt to make an "event movie". Here are highlights:
On how this is his version of The Avengers: "The hardest thing is to find an action star. I don't give a damn what anyone says, stars they come and go. An action star, you can count on one hand." Or, given the size of this cast, presumably two or three. So to get them together," he continues, "is an Event. That's the key word. We're trying to make an Event Movie – like The Avengers. And I think we've accomplished it."
On Harrison Ford's character: "Harrison is a new character, Drummer, who's sort of the government side behind the scenes. He brought a sort of elegance and class."
On Mel Gibson's Conrad Stonebanks: "Mel's a fantastic filmmaker, a great actor. He and I are going to have a real one-on-one fight that's going to be pretty violent and interesting. And he's getting into some very physical shape for this, he's not taking it lightly at all. I'm getting worried!"
On the stigma of action movies: "Everyone has this conjecture that action films are somewhat… less prestigious than dramatic films. Nothing could be further from the truth. I've done them both and this is hard and dangerous. I mean, Jason here nearly drowned to death – lucky he's a great swimmer."
On almost getting Nicholson for the movie: "I was going to go [call] up Jack Nicholson and we just got there a little too late, because actually he had said he might be interested in it."
On wanting Clint Eastwood: "Well, you know Clint is so involved with what he's doing, so that's kind of a pipe dream."
On Kelsey Grammer being added to the cast: "It doesn't automatically mean you have to be an action guy. Like, Kelsey Grammer's coming in [for Expendables 3]. Kelsey's a great comedian, great actor. He's done so many things from [TV drama] Boss to comedy. So you're going to see him do something now, a unique role – he's a mercenary's agent. C'mon! Your client comes in with bullet holes, you're going to take 10% off of him, It's just a very interesting role."
Are you excited?
Johnson. Dwayne Johnson!
Contact Music reports that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson wants to play a villain in a James bond movie, inspired by his grandfather Peter Maivia. Maivia played a driver who fights Sean Connery's version of Bond in the 1967 movie You Only Live Twice. Rock said: "I would love to be a Bond villain. I am a huge fan of Daniel Craig and the Bond movies but it seems only right to follow in my grandfather's footsteps as a Bond baddie."
Do you want The Rock as a Bond bad guy?
Radar Online reports that four days before she told David Letterman she was clean and sober, Linday Lohan was drunk at a viewing party for her reality show. On April 6, she watched the OWN docu-series with friends at the Gramery Park Hotel in New York. There was plenty of alcohol at the party. She recently admitted to relapsing on the show.
A source said: "Lindsay was laughing at herself and having drinks. When she stepped inside the elevator, she reeked of booze and could barely stand! She was walking in a zigzag, and everyone in the lobby was staring. She was definitely not sober." She was also caught drinking at the Coachella Festival in Indio, California on April 12.
Never ceases to amaze.
What's the VIDEO BUZZ?
The first trailer has been released for Clint Eastwood's adaptation of the Broadway musical Jersey Boys, which is about the Four Seasons. Warner Bros will release the film after it was originally set up at Sony. Graham King set up a deal with WB in September 2012.

Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice wrote script and musical book, with song music by Bob Gaudio and lyrics by Bob Crewe. The film will be released by GK Films on June 20.
