Posted by Steve Gustafson on 06.12.2014
411's Steve Gustafson sits down with Playboy's 2014 Playmate of the Year, Kennedy Summers! She talks about being named Playmate of the Year, how her life has changed, and what's next for her! All this and more inside!
In 1960, Playboy named its first Playmate of the Year, Ellen Stratton. Fast forward and Playboy Founder Hugh M. Hefner has named Kennedy Summers, 27, the magazine's 2014 Playmate of the Year, their 55th.
Kennedy is featured on the cover of Playboy's June 2014 issue and inside the magazine in a 12-page pictorial that gives a nod to each decade of Playboy's 60-year existence, shot by renowned fashion photographer Michael Bernard (issue on newsstands now and iPlayboy.com, with additional behind-the-scenes photos and video available at Playboy's newly-launched website, Playmates.com). The statuesque blond first appeared in Playboy as the magazine's December 2013 Playmate of the Month.
Kennedy, a Berlin-born, Virginia-raised international model, holds a bachelor's degree in anthropology; a master's degree in health administration; and is currently working on her M.D. with plans to become a plastic surgeon. She also speaks French and German.
"As 2014's Playmate of the Year, my mission is to help Playboy thrive, as it always has, to break boundaries and carry us into the future," said the brainy beauty, who wore a floor-length white royalty lace spring gown by Zhang JingJing Couture during the luncheon ceremony. "I couldn't be more excited!"
Along with her title, Kennedy receives $100,000 in prize money; an Oris Artelier Date Diamonds watch, featuring a multi-piece stainless steel case set with 72 diamonds; and a one-year lease on a MINI John Cooper Works Roadster. The sporty MINI Roadster is a compact two-seater with excellent boot capacity. Like every MINI, its go-kart handling, innovative features and stylish design make for a unique motoring experience with the top up or down.
In celebration of Kennedy's Playmate of the Year honor, a limited edition t-shirt collection featuring images and outtakes from her pictorial will be available on PlayboyStore.com beginning today. A portion of sales will benefit Wounded Wear, a charity close to Kennedy's heart, which provides free clothing and modifications to wounded warriors and raises national awareness of their sacrifice.
Kennedy was kind enough to take time out of her busy schedule to answer some questions for 411mania.com.
Steve Gustafson: Hi Kennedy! First, congratulations on being named Playboy's 2014 Playmate of the Year! To start off, how did you first get involved with modeling and with Playboy?
Kennedy Summers: I've been an international model since I was fourteen. I was really lucky to be able to travel all over the world and work. When I was done modeling, I thought Playboy would be a great finale to my career. I didn't know how wrong I was!
Steve Gustafson: How did you find out that you were going to be Playboy's 2014 Playmate of the Year? Who was the first person you called?
Kennedy Summers: I got a phone call asking me to come shoot for PMOY and I called my best friend almost immediately. It was so exciting!
Steve Gustafson:How has your life changed since since becoming Playmate of the Year?
Kennedy Summers: Well, I went from a medical student studying all the time to flying all over the world for work! It's a lot more similar to my old life as a model than my life as a student, except that I'm based out of LA now.
Steve Gustafson: I can imagine your life has been a whirlwind of excitement and events. What do like to do for fun and unwind?
Kennedy Summers: It has been amazing! I love to go to the beach, spend time with friends, and travel. I'm going to Greece soon and I'm really excited!
Steve Gustafson: You hold a bachelor's degree in anthropology; a master's degree in health administration; and currently working on your M.D. with plans to become a plastic surgeon. What drew you to pursuing plastic surgery?
Kennedy Summers: I really want to do burn reconstruction because I feel like it's so disfiguring. I want to be able to help those people who have been burned lead normal lives again.
Steve Gustafson: I read that a portion of the sales of from your limited edition t-shirts will go to Wounded Wear. How did you get involved with them and where can people go to help?
Kennedy Summers: www.woundedwear.org is a great way to get started with them. I got involved through friends and just really loved the cause. Our military is amazing and people don't always appreciate what they do for us.
Steve Gustafson: OK, since we cover Movies and TV shows here at 411mania, I have to ask you some related questions. I know you're busy but do you have any TV shows that you must watch?
Kennedy Summers: I love American Dad and Family Guy. My best friend has gotten me watching Revenge lately, too.
Steve Gustafson: What about going out to the movies? Some of your favorites?
Kennedy Summers: I don't go to the movies much! I'm what you'd call an outdoors person!
Steve Gustafson: What's next? Goals for 2014?
Kennedy Summers: I'd really like to get into Mensa this year. I'm open to anything and really just want to enjoy my time as PMOY!
Steve Gustafson: What's the best way for fans to keep up-to-date on your career?
Kennedy Summers: Follow me on Instagram and twitter at @misskennedys and my Facebook page is verified as Miss Kennedy Summers.
Steve Gustafson:That's it! Thanks again and all the best to you!
