The Primetime Rewind News 12.31.05
Posted by Steve Murrey on 12.31.2005
It's my last column of the year and I got news on "Arrested Development", the drunken stars of "Lost," "The OC", "That 70's Show", and so much more!
Welcome back to the Primetime Rewind News, it's officially the last day of 2005 - meaning this will be my last news report of the year. Don't fret, I will be here throughout 2006 delivering all of the TV news you need... you people are like fiends!
I wasn't home last weekend to write the column, I was celebrating the holidays with my family. I got a lot of new DVDs for Christmas, many of which I have wanted for a long time.
Enough of my ramblings. You may have noticed some big changes here at 411, gearing up for the new year. Well, now is the time where we all start making New Year's Resolutions... mine is to not miss another week of the Primetime Rewind News. Will I be successful? Stick around and find out!
The Weekly Buzz
Your Weekly "Arrested Development" Update:
Since I wasn't here last week, I don't think that I got to report on Showtime and ABC expressing interest in picking up "Arrested" for future seasons. When I read that both networks were interested, with Showtime apparently being VERY interested, I found a sense of hope that naysayers emailing me have tried to keep from me.
Negative emails about my obsession with this shows have been coming in quite often within the past few months, people telling me to give up and quit complaining. They say us "Arrested" fans make the loudest noise and that is why you hear about a show that others could care less about.... to that I say, hell ya! We whined and bitched enough about the show to where others have finally started to pay attention. For that, I am happy.
Now, I have to let go of the fact that FOX fucked the show over (excuse my language.) Before I knew that other networks wanted this show, I wanted nothing more than for FOX to keep the show around, to secure that my Bluths would be on each and every week. Now, however, I don't want FOX to have "Arrested." I can't wait until they officially cancel it, I am sure any other network that will have it will treat it a lot better.
Letterman and the Law:
Once upon a time there was a crazy woman from New Mexico. She believed that the popular CBS late night talk show host David Letterman was stalking her... she was convinced that he delivered cryptic messages to her throughout his broadcasts. Every time he said the word "Oprah" it was a message for only her to get.
This crazy lady hired herself a lawyer and took her crazy story to a New Mexico court, asking for a restraining order. At first, the judge gave the restraining order to the crazy lady... she was thankful because Letterman had been harassing her, asking her to marry him and even co-host his show.
However, Mr. Letterman's lawyer filed an appeal, claiming the judge had no lawyer of Letterman, a Connecticut citizen. The judge agreed and lifted the restraining order, which said he could not be within three feet of the crazy lady.
Now, the crazy lady's life is in shambles... she claims that Letterman now "has access to me. He can actually come for me or send people. He has many accomplices. I know this sounds crazy. I was crazy to have listened to him in the beginning."
The End.
The Stars of "Lost" Like to Drink...
But hey, who doesn't? Two of the Emmy-award winning "Lost" stars where charged with two separate incidents of driving under the influence. Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros did not appear in court, but had their attorneys represent them.
Cynthia's attorney admits that she is aware of her mistake and is ready to suffer the repercussions. He says that she is sorry for what has happened and wants to move on. However, Michelle pleaded "not guilty" to the DUI charges and will go to trial in late March.
Even more interesting: Her case is complicated by the fact that Rodriguez is on probation in Los Angeles for three other traffic offenses. She pleaded no contest last year to charges of DUI, hit and run and driving with a suspended license in exchange for the probation -- which is now in jeopardy following her arrest in Hawaii.
...so, she's a reckless driver and a habitual offender. Good to know.
Both stars were arrested December 1st, about fifteen minutes apart. The incidents were separate as mentioned before, but they were both found driving erratically on a highway outside of Kailua. They both failed sobriety tests and were booked... but yet Rodriguez thinks she has a case? *scratches head*
FOX Shuffles Up January Line-Up
FOX's Thursday night will be shifted a little bit come the new year... the network plans on moving "The OC" back an hour to nine PM, canning "Reunion" and moving an hour of "That 70's Show" to the eight PM slot.
This starts January 12th... FOX is hoping that the hour push back for "The OC" will keep it from being impacted by "Dancing With The Stars." Unfortunately for this piece of shit drama, it will still have to compete with "CSI" and NBC's new Thursday night comedies.
In the last weeks of February, "That 70's Show" will be replaced with the hour long results show of "American Idol," so Thursday won't be a total loss for FOX.
Neilson's Ratings: 12/19/05 - 12/25/05

Murrey's advice? Don't pick up anything this week. ...or for the rest of January, for that matter.
...while you're at it, just take a look at this page, it's got everything you need and more! If you read it all, you win a prize! You like prizes, correct?
Also, keep reading Avery Chan, Scott Rutherford (although he's a dick when you get to know him... and he bangs kangaroos, but I guess that's common in the land down under), and Steve Vicious (wherever he's off to, haven't seen him around for a while.)
I'll be back next year... after what should be a helluva New Years Party! Here's to hoping 2006 isn't full of suckiness!
