The VICIOUS TV News Wrap for 01.10.06
Posted by Steve Vicious on 01.10.2006

Intro:
I still have yet to receive my PC, and I'm currently dealing with stuff, so this is a very rushed version of this week's news report. I promise to have something better next week, but I think I have some nice videos to keep you all entertained. Enjoy :).

Random TV Thoughts:
- Bill O'Reilly on "The Late Show"
Man, did anyone else catch the heated debate between Letterman and O'Reilly on January 3rd on "The Late Show"? Well, luckily for you that O'Reilly has decided to stream it on his website. It's good stuff. http://billoreilly.com/site/preview?pid=3683

- MTV's daytime shows just continue to make themselves look bad. Why do I say that, you say? I was watching an episode of "Next" (the show where five people try to win a second date with some bitch or asshole) and some chick kept complaining over needing to go pee. Did she hold it in? Of course not. It's MTV. She ended up peeing on herself and that got her the boot a second later. Gross. See it for yourselves here: http://www.thatvideosite.com/view/1213.html And if that wasn't enough, take a look at this site and read some of their comments ("I'd like to lick it off," says one commenter) http://www.drunkendelight.com/view.php?id=2406

- "Emily's Reasons Why Not" is a new ABC mid-season comedy that was unleashed Monday night. The show stars Heather Graham, so it has that going for it right away. I catched the first episode and thought it had absolutely nothing going for it. I might check out the series for the next couple of weeks, but it does not look good.

- The fifth and most hyped season of FX's brilliant "The Shield" will premiere tonight! Man, you see what happens when a show is promoted well -- it gains you another new fan. I guess FOX has yet to learn that lesson, but FX is great at hyping shows. Should be great.

The VICIOUS TV Wrap:
Law & Order [01.03.05]
This was another Olivia episode and it was absolutely awesome! The plot started off with a young black kid seeing his hooker mother murdered by some man. It turned out that the man who killed her was paying for sex and was also using his "kindness" towards women with problems (the usual drugs and stuff like that) to nail a few of them. However, the TWIST turns out to be that the kid ends up killing the man who killed his mother and has to also deal with being put on the stand. Just excellent. *****

American Dad- "Rough Trade" [01.08.06]
Roger & Stan decide to trades lives. Roger takes up a job as a cars salesman and everyone ends up loving him at first. However, the pressure of being the man of the house gets to Roger and he ends up smacking Francine. A funny little gag runs through the episode where the Smiths' neighbors think that Stan is abusing Francine. Fun episode. ***1/2

Family Guy- "Brian Sings and Swings" [01.08.06]
After a near-death experience, Brian decides to start living his life to the fullest. This leads he, Stewie and Frank Sinatra Jr. (yup, he's actually doing the voice work for the character) to form "The NEW Rat Pack." However, Brian's new lifestyle (although he was always kinda loaded on booze) leads him to self-destruct and it takes Stewie revealing his feelings about how much he cares for Brian to pull him back together. Meanwhile, Meg decides to be a lesbian. But it seems that Lois is not fully convinced that Meg is really a carpet licker, so she asks her to prove it. Meg gives her girlfriend a peck, so Lois decides to show her how it's done. Yum. Anyway, things end there when Meg finally comes clean to her girlfriend that she really isn't a lesbo. ***

TV News:
- Teen Titans cancelled
I forgot to report this a while back, so here it goes -- Cartoon Network has passed on any more new episodes of "Teen Titans," which is currently in its fifth season. Meanwhile, Justice League Unlimited is still in limbo, although I fully expect it to get the ax soon. And just when the show was getting interesting with the Legion of Doom. What a shame.

- The WB gives "Fran" another shot
Ugh, the WB will bring back the struggling (and awful) "Living with Fran" comedy on Friday night. The show has been on hiatus for quite a while, so the return of this show is quite a shock to me.

- Futurama's comeback?
Well, I sure hope so. I wasn't a huge fan of the show when it originally aired on FOX, but I started to catch to the reruns on Cartoon Network and TBS and I instanly loved it. It's great to see cancelled TV shows getting a second chance at life thanks to DVDs.

New TV on DVD (Jan. 10, 2006)
Not a lot going on this month for TV on DVDs. February also looks thin, but I guess we can all stock up on other shows for now.
- Black Books: The Complete 1st Series
- The Flash: The Complete Series
- Viva La Bam: The Complete 4th & 5th Seasons (Pick of the Week)

On the Next VICIOUS TV News Wrap (XVII):
- I'm starting to think that I should promise things I can't keep, but I'm still going to do it. Remember there's a rant coming regarding MTV's "My Super Sweet Sixteen," although I'm hoping to find pictures of the girls that I'm going to talk about.
- My BACKUP your DVDs feature is also coming, although I want to actually be able to burn and create more than ONE DVD-R (DAMN YOU, PC REPAIRERS PEOPLE!!!)
