The VICIOUS TV News Wrap for 01.17.06
Posted by Steve Vicious on 01.17.2006
The OC's Mischa Barton sees red (gross), another pile of crap show on MTV called "My Super Sweet Sixteen" gets attention and much more!
Intro:
YES! I finally have my PC back in my grasps and I was finally able to complete my unfinished DVD reviews! However, I ran into some problems with my new motherboard's audio driver, so instead of re-installing it over and over again, I decided to buy a new sound card and it works well enough. Superman the Animated Seires Volume Two DVD review is 100% done and went gold over the weekend, but it will show up on the main site Wednesday morning! And I'm honored to mention that I am one of the Bosses in the 411 Family! Lets go higher in 2006!
Random TV Thoughts/News/Gossip:
- ED, part 2?
A CBS mid-season replacement entitled "Love Monkey" starring Tom Cavanagh (from NBC's Ed), Jason Priestley (from Beverly Hills 90210), Judy Greer (the big breasted Kitty Sanchez from Arrested Development) debuts tonight at 10PM! I absolutely LOVED Cavanagh's show Ed and was heartbroken when NBC decided to give it the shitty treatment it received in its final season (they put it on FRIDAY NIGHTS!!!). Lets hope it's good. Well, other than the title of the show, of course.
- So long, Bluths
"Arrested Development" is going to receive a two-hour all-new episode marathon on February 10th. It's not surprising that FOX wants to burn the show off immediately, but the fact that they are burying it on FRIDAYS speaks volumes (they don't want to give it any promotion because if it gets picked up by ABC or Showtime, it could come back to haunt them). Well, at the very least Fox gave AD fans the chance to see the final episodes (of season 3, I hope) and didn't just tell us to wait for them on DVD. I know some of you might think that FOX gave AD a fair chance, which it did at the start of the series' run, but I think putting the show on Monday nights against CBS' comedy block and Monday Night Football was not going to bring in new viewers. The show was doing just fine on Sunday nights, but I guess Fox wants to focus on their new show, "Who wants to be my Baby's Daddy."
- Frankie Muniz still has a job?
"Malcom in the Middle" is returning to FOX's Sunday night lineup beginning on January 29th. Well, if the show is pulling in decent ratings on Fridays (I doubt it), then it deserves to return to the big time. However, the show hasn't been very good in quite some time, so it looks like a clumsy move by FOX. Like they do anything right to begin with.
- So long new ABC sitcoms, we hardly knew you.
Well, the shows are not cancelled yet, but it's a safe bet that these shows will not return for another season. ABC has pulled "Emily's Reasons Why Not" and "Jake in Progress" from airing last night due to their terrible debuts last week. Emily pulled in around 6 million viewers, while Jake did slighty worse with 5.5 million viewers. I guess ABC's first attempt at replacing Monday Night Football has failed. Never save bad shows for relaunching a new night, ABC. Rookie mistake.
The VICIOUS Rant:
Has anyone checked out a show on MTV called "My Super Sweet Sixteen" where spoiled girls (and one gay guy) throw the biggest bashes for their birthdays? Well, I unfortunately was flipping through the channels in mid-December when I came across this show during a mini-marathon really late at night. Since there was nothing else to watch (how many times can a guy watch the same ESPN shows repeated all day?) and it had a really hot chick on there, so I gave it the old college try. Well, the show wasn't as bad as other MTV "reality" shows such as "NEXT" or "Room Raiders," but what I found interesting was the actual birthday boy or girls.
The first episode I watched had this girl named Amanda, who is EXTREMELY hot and her dad owns a club in Florida, spending most of her time acting like a spoiled little brat over such littles things as not being driven to her party via limo due to the air conditioner not working or something. Her dad spent most of the time during the car ride apologizing to Amanda, but she wasn't having any of it. Before that though, she was excited to know that some singer named Ciara was going to perform at her party, so she decided to sell tickets to her party in order to see Ciara perform. At least she has a brain, sez I. Anyway, the party takes place and she has a MAJOR blowout with her dad, but I forgot what it was about. They makeup in the end, however. But the weird thing about this episode is that Amanda, regardless of how shallow and self-centered she acted, had some sense of being a GOOD PERSON. Yes, it's amazing, I know. You see, these band geeks were outside of her party and they decided to play her a happy birthday song, and instead of telling them to fuck off or something, SHE LET THEM IN! Amazing. I also loved how she said nobody could top her party, "So try it, bitches."
Another episode had a girl named Sophie REALLY go over the top with her attitude. She even managed to put her mother in her place when they were shopping for a dress. The best part of the entire episode was when Sophie was handing out invitations to her party and some girl that she no longer liked or whatever managed to get one from someone. Sophie confronted her and got in her face by telling her that she would kick her ass in front of everyone again. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA. MTV gives me so much entertainment. This was a shitty episode, and my guess is that Sophie was a very spoiled bitch due to no dad being around there. Well, I did notice that Sophie looks black, and her mother and grandparents are WAY too white, so that is probably a VERY interesting story behind that family.
The final episode that really stuck out the most was about this girl named Jazmin. She has a different kind of background because she was actually adopted ONE YEAR prior to her show airing. Now, I'm sure you are all saying to yourselves -- "This chick has to be humble if she was adopted, right?" WRONG! Jazmin is without question the worst of these spoiled brats because of how awful she treats everyone around her. I mean, she was in a foster home for several years with her brother and was adopted to a rich family! She should be counting her blessings, not complaining about not being the center of attention. Anyway, her big problem seems to be with her "best friend" Britney, who is UNGODLY HOT, although a bit of pain in the ass, so you can imagine what girls like her are only good for. Anyway, Britney got herself uninvited from the VIP list because she brought over her skater friends to Jazmin's house while she was looking at guys to be her lifeguard. Jazmin doesn't really give a reason as to why she hates the skater dudes, but it does cause her to give Britney the cold shoulder. The rest of the party is boring, although the feud between Britney and Jazmin never really goes too far. But you do get to see Britney cry and scream about everyone always blaming her for something. Too funny.
More episodes that were not as bad as the ones mentioned above see one chick who I think is Muslim and has a HUGE rack on her (sorry, couldn't find the pics), but she also did the usual spoiled girl act. Her mother deactivated her credit cards and she was left crying after discover that while shopping at a store. Blah, blah. Then there was this one chick who I cannot remember her name at this time, but she's Hispanic, so that should narrow it down. Anyway, she threw a party for her 15th birthday and had the typical Hispanic girl attitude. Actually, this bitch reminded me of my buddy's ex-girlfriend. Terrible. Plus, there's one chick who is the daughter to some R&B singer or something (never heard of him, actually) and she wanted to sing at her party. However, her dad forced her to take lessons and she totally sucked, but whatever she was singing got the party "rockin'." My favorite of these birthday bashers was B'jorn (I didn't give a rat's ass to look up his name) and he is a "Divo." A "Divo" is a guy diva, by the way. Anyway, his party was thrown at a mall and the theme was all about fashion (gee, wonder why?), but he wasn't a total idiot with his friends. Actually, I think he was totally cool with everyone, although he was annoying in the gay sort of way. Plus, there's more episodes dealing with a trio of girls who think they are celebs and stuff.
Well, I will admit this -- "My Super Sweet Sixteen" is a fun show to watch because they all act like fools. It's not as bad as other MTV shows geared towards those college kids who think beer and partying is EVERYTHING in life, but it does a good job at showcasing the lives of rich folks' birthday parties. But, if you are one of those crazy kids that needs attention, then I suggest you visit MTV's official casting call for Sweet Sixteen here: http://www.mtv.com/onair/castingcall/story.jhtml?id=1500148. My final conclusion when it comes to this show is: I've seen worse. The VICIOUS TV Mini-Wrap:
- Gilmore Girls [01.10.06]
Luke tries to have some sort of relationship with his daughter and the only way he can do this is to talk to her mother, who he is somewhat mad at for not telling him about them having a daughter. Meanwhile, Rory is back at Yale and runs into Logan. She finds it difficult to be broken up with him if he's EVERYWHERE she is. Rory, call the police and run away with me! Tonight's episode is going to get on my nerves because Lorelai, who has a 21-year-old daughter, will be mad at Luke for not telling her about his newly discovered daughter. Women are as blind as bats! ***1/2
- Law & Order: SVU [01.10.06]
I missed SVU this week, but it didn't sound like anything I would have liked.
- The OC [01.12.06]
The plot is simple -- the OC kids try to get Marissa back into school and they do so by completely ignoring all logic. This is the thing that bugs the hell out of me when it comes to the third season of this show and that is Marissa Cooper is BANNED from her old school because she SHOT a guy in SELF-DEFIANCE!!! It's like everyone keeps ignoring that as if she shot Ryan's brother just for fun. Anyway, the OC kids win and Marissa will return to their school soon. No little sister yet. ***

- I'm still researching making your own DVD-Rs and stuff like that. My PC came back to me last Wednesday night and I have been adding all of my original programs, so I didn't get enough time to complete my CREATE your own TV on DVD. However, I will use the Spider-Man animated series from the mid-90s as an example on how to make your own DVDs. Remember, don't copy DVDs from the store because that violates the D.M.A. Although I might post some stuff regarding copy protected DVDs, but only use them as BACKUPS. That might go on my blog or I'll save it for next week.
- I'm not done taking MTV to the woodshed yet, and my next target is a new show called "My Own." If you have seen it, then you know what the biggest flaw to that piece of crap is.
READ EVERYONE. But read me first ;)! Read my Superman review tomorrow and Batman is 75% done at this point. Plus, Super Friends next week! Go CRAZY!!!
