The Tasty Evil TV News 02.09.06
Posted by Avery Chan on 02.09.2006

It's been a busy week for me and slow one for news anyhow so I'm giving you an expanded edition of Tasty/Evil Caplets instead. Hopefully I can get back to some real news next week.

Smallville (Feb 2)

3-Sentence Recap:
While in Metropolis, Martha Kent gets mugged and almost killed until she is saved by a masked female vigilante. This "Avenging Angel" is on a quest for revenge against the people who murdered her mother and has no qualms about killing. Clark stops her from killing Lionel Luthor, knowing revenge is not the answer, ironically saving the man who had a part in causing his father's death.

Tasty:
• This episode introduces the idea of the costumed superhero into the Smallville universe.
• Tom Welling continues to do excellent work taking Clark Kent from a teenager to a man in the midst of all the hardships life is throwing at him.

Evil:

• The Avenging Angel dressed Batman-esque, moved like Batman, had Batman's motivations and Batman's music (kind of). I wish they would've saved the Batman guest spot for BATMAN.Hopefully, this episode doesn't mean a Bruce Wayne episode's not happening.
• Lionel Luthor, whose ruthlessness extends to killing his own parents, gives up his hostile takeover of Luthor Corp. because he's afraid Martha Kent won't like him? What's next? Lex falling in love with Lana? Oh wait…

Grey's Anatomy (Feb 5)

3-Sentence Recap:
A patient is brought in with a chest wound and the only thing stopping it from bleeding out is a rookie paramedic (Christina Ricci), who has stuffed her arm into it. Turns out an unexploded bazooka shell is lodged in the man's chest, resulting in a "code black". Show ends on a cliffhanger which has the paramedic panic and run off forcing Grey to quickly shove her hand into the wound to keep the shell from exploding.

Tasty:
• When did Christina Ricci get so cute? I use to find her creepy and this is the first time I've seen her play someone normal and it's totally working for me.

Evil:
• One of the big criticisms against Grey's is the characters obsession with their sex lives and that knock is glaring in this episode. A bomb could possibly go off in the hospital and all Katherine Heigl can think about is getting off. Code Black = Not the time to do it in the broom closet.

24 (Feb 6)

3-Sentence Recap:
Jack and CTU locate a man who is helping the terrorists bypass the locks on the gas canisters and break into his high security building. The man will lead them to the terrorists only if he gets immunity and safe passage out of the country for himself and his 15 year old sex slave. Unwilling to live the nightmare anymore, the girl shoots her tormentor, taking away Jack's chance to catch the terrorists.

Tasty:
• The actor playing the terrorist helping, child molester oozed evil euro-sleaze, creating a villain the audience can really hate and the situation he forced Jack into (letting him keep the girl) made for some excellent drama.
• Even though it screws Jack over, I'm glad the girl shot the bastard.

Evil:

• However, I wish she shot him in the balls. Guys like that need to suffer. So did Walt Cummings, who took the easy way out by hanging himself. I like to see backstabbing characters face the consequences of their actions the way Palmer's wife did, rather than die.
• The new subplot involving Sean Astin's crack whore sister seems wholly unnecessary and possibly distracting, much like last years plot involving Driscoll's mentally ill daughter. Unless that security card that the sister and her boyfriend stole factors in somewhere, this reeks of "Kim Bauer VS Johnny Drama" from season 2.

House (Feb 7)

3-Sentence Recap:
A housewife gets uncontrollable spasms causing her limbs to flail around uncontrollably. She's putting up a front for her husband, undergoing fertility treatment while secretly taking the pill, which messes up her body. House and Sela Ward finally sleep together but a show of devotion from her husband convinces House she's better off with.

Tasty:
House's Lines of the Night:
• "It will take an hour for your wife to be processed. Then you can take her home and divorce her"
• "I know you're in there, I can hear you caring"

Evil:

• House and Ward really came off looking like selfish jerks in this one. It's really hard to sympathize with people cheating on their spouses, especially when said spouse has done nothing to deserve it.

Law and Order: SVU (Feb 7)

3-Sentence Recap:
A woman found raped and murdered in her apartment turns out to be a successful lawyer by day and stripper by night. The investigation leads to the husband of her paraplegic boss (Rebecca DeMornay), with whom she was having an affair. It turns out however, that the wife was the culprit, not only setting up the murder but making herself sick and pretending to be crippled because she's addicted to the attention.

Tasty:
• Good to see an episode showing Benson and Stabler working TOGETHER after a bunch of solo outings.
• Chris Potter really impressed me with his performance as the husband. I don't know how many people have seen the horrible Kung Fu: The Legend Continues, where he played son of David Carradine's Kwai Chang Caine but those who know what I'm talking about would be impressed as well.

Evil:
• Whenever there's a guest star of Rebecca DeMornay's caliber, you pretty much know where the story's going to end up so the twist loses a little impact.

Scrubs (Feb 7, 9-9:30)

3-Sentence Recap:
J.D. meets the girl of his dreams, who looks a lot like Mandy Moore and Elliot tries to make sure he doesn't screw up as usual. Meanwhile, Turk and the Janitor form an air band annoying Kelso and Cox refuses to kiss his son because he's starting to look like a guy. All ends well.

Tasty:
• Mandy Moore is always tasty.
• Air Banding, when done right is always comic gold. Anyone who's seen Will Arnett's air guitar performances of the Law and Order theme song on Conan will agree.
• We finally get a break from Turk and Carla's baby problems for an episode.

Evil:
• No big complaints about this episode.

Scrubs (Feb 7, 9:30-10)

3-Sentence Recap:
J.D. gets annoyed with Mandy's habit of saying "that's so funny" instead of just laughing at a joke, so Turk and the gang stage an intervention to stop J.D. from ruining a good thing for no reason. Carla starts to get self conscious about her age when a hot new Latina nurse comes to work at the hospital. J.D. breaks up with Mandy anyways because they have different plans for the future, but that's ok, because it's actually a good reason.

Tasty:
• Again, Mandy Moore is always tasty.
• Christa Miller in a schoolgirl uniform – VERY tasty.
• Cox demonstrating the effects of alcohol on the young (Mandy), the slightly older (Elliot), the slightly older still (Carla) and the very, very, very old (Jordan).
• Lando Calrissian is always tasty.

Evil:
• Carla's 36?? Not a bad thing just very surprising. I always thought she was around the same age as the rest of them.

Lost (Feb 8)

3-Sentence Recap:
Sun is attacked by an unseen assailant and left unconscious in the woods until Kate and Sawyer find them. Sawyer suspects that Ana Lucia is behind the attack in order to drum up support for her and Jack's army. In the end, Sawyer reveals it was all a con in order to gain control of the guns but what is not revealed is Charlie's role as Sun's attacker.

Tasty:
• Shady Sawyer returns as conflict is restored to the camp with the Sawyer-Charlie partnership possibly replacing the Locke-Boone team.
• Sayid finally gets a little something to do when Hurley brings him the radio that the tailies found.
Evil:
• Jack, Locke and Kate ended up looking like total knobs. Not to say that's bad for us the viewers, but it is for them.
• The story arc for the rest of the season is developing incredibly slow. Can we please see an arc that continues for consecutive episodes.
