Interactive online films take a huge step to the future
SR Entertainment has combined forces with Stonehenge Media Group to create the new interactive film website moviesyouplay.com SR Entertainment created the first interactive film available on the internet in Mystery at Mansfield Manor ( 411's review). The film allowed viewers to play interactive elements that affected the outcome of the story. It proved a surprising success.
"Demand increased slowly as word of mouth spread," says Rory Scherer of SR Entertainment. "I didn't spend one dollar on marketing."
Scherer states that he was very receptive to feedback and this led to him pursuing a DVD distribution deal for Manor, which will see a commercial DVD release this coming holiday season.
The success of Manor also led to the current venture with Stonehenge Media for moviesyouplay.com
"I presented Mystery at Mansfield Manor to them and they loved the concept. We then talked about how to expand that concept." Scherer said.
Five films are currently in the planning stages with a projected site launch in twelve months. Financial backing is currently being explored. The films will be from various genres, including another murder mystery. A mystery for children is also being planned. Due to customer feedback on Manor more interactive options will be added to the films, such as more game play choices, shorter film clips and interactive puzzles.
"We want the viewer to feel more like the protagonist," Scherer explains on the new options.
Players for Manor paid $7.00 for a four day access to the film and website. Scherer states that the cost will be similar for moviesyouplay.com per film, but access will most likely be lengthened to seven days.
"It's just like renting a DVD, but you can access it anywhere in the world," according to Scherer. Not to mention the increased value of an interactive film experience.
Much like with Manor, cast and crew for the films will be local and independent, but Scherer does not rule out the possibility of employing new cast, crew and locations. With such an exciting, new concept in the future of the film industry it should not be long before various talents want in on the game.
