The VICIOUS TV News Wrap 12.04.07
Posted by Steve Vicious on 12.04.2007

- Written in front of a not-so-live audience @ 411studios in California

Opening Segment - Introduction
Hello, and welcome to the Vicious TV News Wrap. It's another week of television news to cover, so let's get to it…

Top Story

  • The Strike Continues
It looks like last week's on-again negations between the WGA and the studios ended up going nowhere. Of course the strike is hurting people behind the scenes because they're getting laid off right now. Fortunately for them, they have Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien's deep pockets to help them out. Over a 100 staff members from "The Tonight Show" were laid off recently and after hearing their complaints, Jay Leno has offered to pay them their weekly salaries until at least this week. The staffers made complaints unnanymously online about how Leno wasn't taking care of them. Some other staffers are still mad at Leno because they claim he hasn't spoken to them after the third day of the strike. As for Conan, his non-writing staffers were laid off, but they were laid off with pay. They posted on the NBC blog the news about how executives of the show called them into a meeting to break the news. They don't seem that upset about it. Let's hope the strike ends soon in order to avoid things like the next piece of news…

    Random TV News

  • Who Wants to Marry a U.S. Citizen?
An L.A. company is seeking to sell a show called "Who Wants to Marry a U.S. Citizen" which is a show that sees U.S. citizens marrying immigrants with temporary visas. This is something FOX should have jumped on from the start. It sounds like some of the previous shows, for example who can forget "Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire?"

  • Buffy coming back to TV?
It looks like Sarah Michelle Gellar, star of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," is considering a TV comeback. Sources close to the actress claim she has become disenchanted with the movie scripts she has been receiving and wants to jump back on the TV bandwagon. Gellar is a very talented actress, but I think her skills would be better suited to acting on a cable show. It allows her to really express herself more like a Denis Leary or a Courtney Cox. Let's hope Gellar comes back.

  • MTV's favorite Tool strikes again
After being the first late-night host to return, Carson Daly is now seeking to get scabs to create jokes for him. Daly has set up a "joke hotline" in order to anyone to give his God awful show some much needed humor.

  • Tila Tequila is straight?!
Not that it should come as a surprise to anyone with half a brain, but MTV's Tila Tequila, who is currently the star of her own love show "A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila", is straight. Now that shouldn't really bother most of you, but her show is based on the fact that Tila is bi-sexual. Not only that, but she has a boyfriend and refuses to break up with him.

    Viciously Ridiculous

It's now time for the most ridiculous item of the television world this week.

The Thursday night game between the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys was one of the biggest games of the season, but 72 million people were unable to see it. ESPN really hammered that in to my head and I did a bit of research and it seems that the NFL Network is the NFL's attempt to have their own network so they can cut out the middle man from the profits. However, I have Dish Network, so I got to watch the game in the comfort of my living room. GO COWBOYS!
