Two Tivos To Paradise 03.21.08: All The TV News You Need To Make This A GREAT Friday
Posted by Al Norton on 03.21.2008

Hello Friends. Hope you all had Happy St. Patrick's days and that none of you got knocked out of your NCAA pools already. We actually had some snow in Boston on Wednesday but it was washed away within a few hours. Went to a fancy dinner function for Mrs. Tivo's work on Saturday night, busting out the rented tuxedo and everything. When is the 411Mania Awards banquet?!?! You readers would vote for me, right? Right? Hello???

It's a girl, my lord, in a flatbed Ford slowin' down to take a look at news.

She's 41 And Her Daddy Still Calls Her Baby
On Wednesday TVGuide.com broke the news that Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Michelle Trachtenberg will be appearing on Gossip Girl for a run of episodes this spring as a girl from Serena's past that comes to town looking to cause trouble. The role was originally linked to Mischa Barton but those rumors proved to be false. There is no word on how long Trachtenberg's stay will be or if it's possible she could become a regular cast member.

And the hot just keep getting hotter. Sorry to break it down on such a base level but GG has one of the most attractive casts on TV already, and a mostly growed up Dawn Summers is only making it stronger. The character is supposed to be a major bitch and Trachtenberg's brief stint on Six Feet Under showed she can uses her claws with the best of them. And no, there is no truth to the rumor I ran this story strictly because I knew it would give 411mania a good excuse to run a sexy picture with my column.

With Every Move He Makes Another Chance He Takes, Odds Are He Won't Live To See Tomorrow
NBC is thisclose to placing a series order for an untitled drama that would be Christian Slater's first starring television role. Described as "The Bourne Identity meets Jekyll and Hyde", the new show would have Slater playing a suburban family man who slowly begins to realize he has an alter-ego who is a super spy. The series is written by Jason Smilovic, who recently executive produced Bionic Woman and Kidnapped for NBC. IF the project is officially picked up it will mark the third time recently where the network ordered a show straight from script, saving money by skipping the production of a pilot.

Smilovic's track record for scripting critically acclaimed but short lived series (Kidnapped, Karen Sisco) bodes well for the quality of this new show but not for its long term health. I was a big fan of Kidnapped and loved not only the performances he got out of the large cast but how he also managed to give depth to the many, many characters that inhabited the series. Slater is a solid but unspectacular actor who could really shine on the small screen.

She's So Very Nice You Should Break The Ice, Let Her Know That She's On Your Mind
Senator Barack Obama will tape an appearance on The View this Thursday that will air the next day and is being billed as a "no holds barred" interview with the Presidential candidate. Obama last appeared on the show in November of 2004 and this new conversation, which will take up the majority of the episode, will cover topics from his personal life, the war in Iraq to his recent speech about the state of race in American to the campaign trail.

Its amazing how common place these type of appearances have become, with candidates showing up to talk with Oprah, Tyra, Jay, Dave, Ellen, and Jon. Some may say that shows how low the campaign process has sunk but I kind of like the idea of people seeing the more human side of their candidates. On the other hand, I don't know that being able to engage in witty banter is a pre-requisite for running the country. What is clear is that these interviews are not going to go away so get used to them. I am keeping my fingers crossed that Elizabeth says something stupid and Barack just lets her have it.

When You Believe In Things That You Don't Understand Then You Suffer
The Sci Fi network had it's "up front" presentation this week, which included confirmation of a long discussed Battlestar Galactica prequel as well as several new series and movies. Caprica, set in the BSG universe but 50 years earlier, is set to be a two hour movie that could serve as a pilot, and producer Ron Moore said it's not exactly going to be what people are expecting. "It's not action-adventure. In fact, it's more of a prime time soap opera set on a planet. I really like this new world we've created. It's a radically different approach to the sci-fi genre." True Believer is also being made as a movie/pilot and is about a comic book fan who hires a former super hero to teach him the ins and outs of crime fighting. Believer was created by Rosario Dawson and David Atchinson (Occult Crimes Task Force). Alice is a six hour mini-series re-imagining of Alice In Wonderland. New seasons of Scare Tactics (with new host Tracy Morgan), Ghost Hunters International, and Mind Control with Derren Brown are planned.

Ron Moore and David Eick could announce they were making a spin off of BSG that was done with hand puppets and I would Tivo it from day one. Frankly a soap opera set in space sounds good to me anyway, especially since by the time this airs, BSG will have signed off (for more on their final season, see below). Alice seems to show that they liked the response they got from last year's Tin Man, and doing one of those a year could turn into a nice little niche for the network. GH has become a franchise, and Destination Truth has started to get some mainstream publicity with the discovery of a massive footprint during their recent Yeti episode. All in all, the Sci Fi network is clearly on the rise.

Last Year's Wishes Are This Year's Apologies
Law and Order: SVU will have a couple of big name guest stars lined up when they return from the WGA strike with new episodes next month. The major coup is that Robin Williams will appear in the series 200th episode, rumored to be playing a brilliant engineer who goes head to head with Benson and Stabler. The other casting news is that Bill Pullman has signed for a multi-episode stint as Olivia's boyfriend, the first time the character has had a steady relationship in sometime. Pullman's character should shake up several of the existing dynamics a bit as when he is introduced it will be revealed that they have been dating in secret for some time.

Despite not appearing in a hit movie in a few years, Williams is still quality "get" for SVU and has done well on TV in dramatic roles in the past; his Emmy nominated turn on Homicide was brilliant. If the SVU producers can make Martin Short seem threatening, I can't wait to see what they do with Williams. There are lots of Benson-Stabler shippers out there and Olivia getting a boyfriend may actually further their cause as we may see some jealousy from Elliot. At the least he will have some anger/frustration that she hadn't shared that part of her life with him.

You'll Never Need To Doubt It, I'll Make You So Sure About It
Battlestar Galacticareturns to the air on Friday April 4th with the premiere for their 4th and finale season, which will be broken up into two 10 episode runs because of the work stoppage caused by the WGA strike. As mentioned in last week's opening, I was lucky enough to receive a copy of the season premiere from the kind folks over at the Sci-Fi Network and want to assure all the BSG fans out there that it's the same high quality you have come to expect from the show, and even better it's a episode that is heavy on the Baltar, which is just how I like it.

Ok, this isn't that much of a "news" item but I thought I'd take the opportunity to examine why the series remains more of cult hit instead of enjoying the following that the best show on TV deserves. First off, there's the title; BSG lives with the irony that the name that got them on the air in the first place is what keeps many from tuning in or taking it seriously. I always get angry emails when I say that the original was simply a bad show with cheesy special effects but I watched it when Sci Fi re-ran it a year or two ago and it was really quite awful except for spotting the not-yet-famous young actors. Secondly, it's science fiction and there are people out there who simply are not interested in the genre no matter how well done it is or that it's focus is on the human condition and not aliens. The third factor may be a smaller one but I think it's still real, and that's that the show openly deals with religion and spirituality on a regular basis and that makes many people uncomfortable. It's odd to me that more than half of the US goes to a house of worship on a weekly basis and yet you almost never see that portrayed on television.

(I don't mean to go off on a rant here but…) I am Catholic who regularly attends services (not every week but not just on the big days, either) and also proudly quite liberal in my social and political views (some may say that means I am not really Catholic but I've made my peace with it and frankly that's all that counts) but I find it strange that, as an example, there are more gay TV characters than those that go to church/temple/mosque. I am in no way suggesting there should be less gay people on TV, or that the two groups are mutually exclusive, just using it as a way to make the point that for some reason, despite so many people believing in some form of a God, it's hardly ever talked about on television. There were Friday Night Lights fans who balked with Lila started going to church this season and my response was, "how can you set a TV show in the middle of Texas and NOT have characters going to church?" BSG not only discusses faith but debates the role religion should play in other aspects of everyday life and how intolerance of other's beliefs can lead to some committing unspeaking acts in the name of their God. It fits perfectly into the show's ongoing examination of identity, of what the true nature of love really is, and yet it's pretty much the only show on the air that has such a dialogue going on. I am not usually a fan of expressions like, "it's too smart too be popular" but more and more I am leaning that way with BSG.

I hope the above thoughts don't lead to some organized religion bashing (or atheist bashing, for that matter) in the comments section below as that would actually prove my point about people being not being able to having honest discourse about faith. Again, I am not saying I am pushing for a ton of worship related programming on TV, just that it's odd that something so prevalent in the daily life of so many Americans is hardly ever reflected on the small screen. And of course my other point is that BSG is the best show on television right now.

And With Your Hair Combed Right And Your Pants Fit Tight, It's Gonna Be All Right
Season 7 of American Idol is actually season one when it comes to my watching. All season long I will be providing a weekly diary of the action as well as covering all the AI ratings news. Tuesday's two hour broadcast averaged 27 million, down 2 million from last week (and last year) and crushed Dancing With the Stars when they went head-to-head in the 9:00 hour (26.8 mil to 15.7 mil). The 25.5 million who tuned in on Wednesday night represented a season low, although historically these couple of weeks are always low for the show.

TUESDAY
The final 11 of American Idol 2008, with producers deciding the songs of John and Paul worked so well last week they might as well do it again. Let's get right to it...

-Ryan's looking a bit more butch than he does on the cover of the new Details Magazine.

-Syesha brought out the big guns for tonight's show!

-Did Paul just use the word "gumption"? Vision of Walter Brennan are dancing in my head. Did I just loose half my readership with that reference?

-Ok, AI seems to really want to make sure we know that last week was "Lennon and McCartney" and this week is "The Beatles."

-Amanda is up first with Back In The USSR. Way to change things up...This song has to open strong and she is easing into it. The song's quality actually almost saved her, which is saying a lot. Judges are dead on in their comments, although her response was good as well.

-Kristy Lee Cook is on her 4th life here. If You've Got To Hide Your Love Away can't help her, nothing can. One of my FAVORITE Beatles songs. What's up with the arrangement? Not great but 1000 times better than last week.

-The David Archuletta Youth Movement is up next, looking for some redemption from last weeks brutal performance. The Long and Winding Road leaves me feeling the way I have about his earlier stuff - it's great vocally but I don't buy the lyrics from him. Seriously, can he really understand, "many times I've been alone and many times I've cried" unless he's referencing getting shut out of Miley Cyrus tickets? He may be best in show but his future is on Broadway (and it's a bright one), not on the pop charts.

-The live IPhone commercial is down right Ibarrassing.

-Even Michael Johns knows he hasn't topped his Bohemian Rhapsody cover from the Hollywood round. A Day In The Life is pretty risky and it doesn't pay off. He doesn't have one strong performance on live TV yet.

-Bones is back soon! Apparently Fox has given up on Canterbury's Law and New Amsterdam as we are 45 minutes in without one ad for them.

-Brooke White's turn...Why is she sitting? Actually, with the piano last week and the edge of stage thing with the Pat Benatar song, she is always sitting. Now I know way - because she can't dance. Her Here Comes the Sun was nothing special.

-I stand corrected, here are the CL and NA commercials. My bad, Fox,

-I think David Cook just dropped the first Whitesnake reference in AI history. What was the middle part of the song? Good overall and he is one of the top two or three favorites right now.

-Carly, one of the other top three, does Blackbird. Why does the audience yell at random times? Amanda should have done this song, btw. I give this a B+. Hey, her tat freak husband is back.

-These "Favorite Moments" clips are ridiculous. What's next week going to be, "Favorite Looks Back at Memories?"

-Jason singing to his IPhone is too much. His Michelle started weak but got better...WOW, Paula offers strong and accurate criticism.

-Syesha is doing Yesterday and looking FINE. She sells the song with real conviction and it works. The exact opposite of David Archuletta.

-Isick of ITunes.

-Chikese's I've Just Seen A Face covers multiple genres in the same, fraked out arrangement. I still love him.

-Not a good sign for Ramiele that I thought we were done and she hadn't sung yet. Better than last week but I still think she looks like a kid playing dress up with those outfits.

I am thinking bottom three is Kristy, Amanda, and Ramiele, although the Worsters seem to be voting for Amanda, so maybe Chikeze gets in here, too.

WEDNESDAY
Results night, with ten contestants moving forward and one heading home. Let's get right to it...

-The "mentors" for this season (as performers who will have their songs sung by the finalists while they offer some coaching)? Dolly Parton, Mariah Carey, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Neil Diamond. Interesting choices...

-It's time for the medley, or as I call it, the car wreck of car wrecks. While My Guitar Gently Weeps is very bad, and the David Archuletta Youth Movement is once again unconvincing in his emoting...Now it's Here, There, and Everywhere, which should have been Brooke's song last night. Does AI save some of these songs for the medley?...Why is Amanda not singing? Seriously, she is barely even moving her lips...

-Oh you, another recap!

-Those bottom 3 seats look like what Will Smith dragged across the floor when he interviewed to become one of the Men In Black

-Instead of showing us the Ford video of the week, we get the making of the Ford video of the week, which makes the commercial last the entire segment. What's next, a commercial montage? Can't wait for next week when the contestants recall their favorite part of the making of the Ford videos...Also, WOW, did they take all the rebellion out of Should I Stay Or Should I Go...They made The Clash sound like Pat Boone

-The live phone calls are quite bad...Hey, they took one that mentioned an IPod. Who'd thunk it?

-Hey, nice Picklers! Wait, you didn't like that? How about, Pickler? I damn near killed 'er!

-And in the end, Amanda goes home, which is how it should be. Of course Fox doesn't miss the chance to show her riding a motorcycle without a helmet one last time.

-Next week, the songs of Iron Butterfly!

-No, not really.

But You Were Up To Your Old Tricks In Chapters Four Five And Six
All you need to know about the Nielsen's for the last week…Last Wednesday's cable debuts were big business; Bravo's Top Chef opened 11% over last season, South Park's 12th season debut was up from # 11 on Comedy Central, and the kick off of Lewis Black's The Root of All Evil benefited with solid numbers following SP. Even The Daily Show got in on the act, posting its largest crowd since October…Last Thursday's Lost posted a season low for ratings, with 11.87 million as the average audience. The good news is that it was the night's most watched shows (in a big way) for the key demos…Survivor won the overall crown on Thursday with 13.06 million, up 400k from last week…John Adams' debut on Sunday night gave HBO it's largest audience for a TV movie/mini-series in 3+ years…The Cutting Edge 3: Chasing The Dream made ABC Family Sunday night's basic cable champion…Oprah's Big Give was down another 10% this past Sunday, although it's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition lead-in was the night's most watched program with 12 million viewers, trouncing it's competition (Dateline – 8 mil, Big Brother, 6.7 mil, The Simpsons, 6.6 mil)…The return of new episodes for CBS' Monday night comedy line up led to season highs for all four shows, including How I Met Your Mother (9.7 million) building off of The Big Bang Theory's lead-in audience (9.1 million). As usual, Two and A Half Men scored the biggest of the group with 14.1 million. Those numbers bode extremely well for HIMYM getting a pick up for the fall…The new season of Dancing with the Stars debuted with 20.9 tuning in, strong enough to easily win the night but down 14% from the fall's premiere…The Bachelor's London kick off produced similar results, winning the 10 hour in demos but down 11% from last season and losing overall to Medium, which came in a hair under 10 million…The 4.7 million who watched My Dad is Better Than Your Dad represented a series low…Dancing With the Stars Tuesday outing pulled in 16.8 million, down from Monday due to the AI competition…Miss Guided's debut drew 10 million…The 100th episode of One Tree Hill had an upswing of almost half a million…Also up on Tuesday night was The Biggest Loser featuring Tim Gunn's guest appearance…A special Wednesday night Survivor topped Moment of Truth for total viewers but lost the demos battle…The last pre-strike Law And Order won the 10:00 hour…

All The Young Dudes Carry The News
Industry News, Notes, and Hot Rumors…Details about Rob Thomas' script for a 90210 spin off on The CW leaked out this week, with the plot being roughly the same as the original (family from a small-ish town moves to Beverly Hills, with none of the series original participants anywhere to be found, although there are two characters with the last name of "Silver" whose parents have been away from some time…Geena Davis is the star of a new potential CBS mystery called Exit 19, playing a suburban Mom who solves murders in her spare time. Davis was rumored to be in the running to replace Mandy Patinkin as the team leader on Criminal Minds before Joe Montenga got the job…Joel Gertsch, late of The 4400, will play Angie Harmon's love interest on the three episodes of Women's Murder Club that ABC is producing for the spring. As much as I liked him on 4400, I prefer evil Joel, who was brilliant in Taken as well as when Tom Baldwin was possessed… MTV confirmed a 10 episode run of Paris Hilton's New BFF, which you read about here weeks ago…Speaking of shows you read about here previously, Sam Rami's Wizard's First Rule has been cleared for syndication runs in 84% of the country already, with no casting decisions have been made yet…CBS is getting a new season of Big Brother into production in time for a summer run…Fox picked up Courtroom K, a new drama series written by Paul Attanasio (Homicide: Life on the Street)…HBO announced it will not be putting 12 Miles of Bad Road on it's schedule. Producers have been shopping the series, a one hour comedy from Linda Bloodworth Thomas and starring Lily Tomlin, Mary Kay Place, and Gary Cole, to other networks. Six episodes have already been completed…Bernie Mac and Ken Davitan (best known as Borat's hefty sidekick) will star in Starting Moves, a new comedy on Fox this fall…Justine Bateman has signed for multiple episodes of Desperate Housewives this spring…The CW picked up Wrecking Ball, a new dramatic series billed as a cross between Moonlighting and Erin Brakovich…Sci Fi is developing a TV series from the Virgin comic book Stranded, which it helped to create. The show focuses on a group of everyday people who find out they are really aliens with super powers. So to continue with the blank-meets-blank formula, it's The 4400 meets Heroes meets BSG…Anne Dudek will be back as "Cutthroat Bitch" for at least two episodes of House this spring…Ken Howard shows up on Brothers And Sisters as Rob Lowe's chief rival for the Republican Presidential nomination…John Corbett has signed on opposite Toni Colette is the Showtime pilot The United States of Tara, a multiple personalities comedy written by recent Oscar winner Diablo Cody…Fox has picked up The Inn, a new comedy about a hip New York hotel from the pen of Abraham Higginbotham (Arrested Development)…Nicktoons will debut Iron Man: The Animated Series and Wolverine and the X-Men in early 2009…Upcoming Grey's Anatomy guest stars include Oscar nominee Amy Madigan, Clea DuVall (Carnivale), and Jason O'Mara (Men In Trees), all of whom will stick around for multiple episodes…FX has FINALLY announced when the third season of Morgan Spurlock's fantastic documentary/reality series 30 Days will premiere; mark your calendars for June 3rd….Very low ratings have caused Fox to bump B<>Canterbury's Law from Monday nights as of now, reappearing in the death zone that is Friday nights at the end of the month. Not sure where they will move The Return of Jezebel James but I think it will have the initials DVD…

Turns Out Not Where But Who You're With That Really Matters
The top thing I watched since the last column went to press AKA The Best Of What's Around…Tuesday's One Tree Hill was the series' 100th episode and a prefect example of a guilty pleasure working on all cylinders. I got a DVD screener last week but unfortunately it came with a letter asking me to not reveal certain plot points; I don't have a problem with them wanting to keep things a secret but how about advising me not to read the letter until I had seen the episode?!??! The fact that I knew all the big twists and enjoyed it so much anyway says a lot about the bond that has formed between the audience and the show over the last five years. While none of these actors are turning in Emmy winning performances – except Jackson Brundage, who makes me wish their was a "young actor" category – they all know their characters very well, which can make for some heartfelt scenes, like everyone's reaction to Jamie's kidnapping, or the looks on their faces when Dan walked in the room at the very end. While I do have some issues with Dan coming out of prison as the exact same person he was when he went in, there is no question the series is a better place when he is a resident of Tree Hill. My biggest question is where was Whitey? I keep waiting for the revelation that he died sometime between winning the D2 championship and now but it's never been addressed, and it strikes me as crazy that he wouldn't be there for Lucas' wedding. Despite a very weak start to the season it now appears OTH has found its footing and is on a run of highly entertaining episodes.

People Say I'm Crazy Doing What I'm Doing. Well, They Give Me All Kinds Of Warnings To Save Me From Ruin
What's flashed before my eyes the last seven days…Have I mentioned how much I am loving Dexter? It's easily one of my favorite shows and one that demands a certain level of intelligence and understanding from its audience. It also makes me laugh out loud several times a week. Dex and Rita discussing their dreams at the end of last Sunday's episode was phenomenal television…Another week of Lost, another week of tears for me. The flash back/forward at the same time was extremely well done and another way for the producers to keep viewers on their toes…Jonah Hill's SNL was decent but nothing more, although Tracy Morgan's appearance on Weekend Update was worth staying up for…I was amused by Lewis Black's The Root of All Evil, which wasn't anything fabulous but anything that gives Black and also Paul F Tompkins screen time is going to get a thumbs up from me…I gave up on Dirt, removing it from my season pass as it's just plain boring now that they took all the outrageous sex out of it. My TV life will hurt from the lack of Ian Hart but overall there are much better uses of my time…Another week, another quality Medium. The court case ended with a little too much of a Perry Mason moment for me but everything else, especially the scenes at the Dubois home, were top notch…How I Met Your Mother's return was like seeing an old friend – these are the sitcom characters I am most attached to right now. How awesome was Barney's, "that's so not Raven" admonition of Ted?...The great Dave Foley stopped by The New Adventures of Old Christine for the second (and hopefully not the last) time. He and Julia Louis Dreyfus have great chemistry – both are excellent comedic actors – and their character's equally neurotic natures make for a great match. If I were making a sitcom in a laboratory it would be Foley and Patrick Warburton as a gay couple, with Charisma Carpenter as one of their ex-wives and Jackson Brundage as their kid. Somebody get a network on the horn!...Poor Pruitt Taylor Vince; he seems to have made a career playing mentally challenged and/or emotionally stunted characters and played to his strengths again this week on Canterbury's Law. I have seen him play "regular", both in Nurse Betty (a HIGHLY underrated movie) and a great episode of the short lived Gideon's Crossing, but slow seems to be his bread and butter…The Riches returned in fine form on Tuesday night, with an episode all about Eddie Izzard's wonderful ability to portray someone thinking on their feet...Miss Guided is a very cute sitcom and one that fits in quite well with Samantha Who? It's a tad silly but I thought it worked…

TV Pick Of The Week
Early risers will get a special treat this week when TNT shows I Will Remember You on Monday at 6 am, one of the best episodes of Angel ever and the one where I finally started getting into the character. Up until then I thought he was a little wimpy and was really put off by the age difference between him and Buffy. No, not the hundreds of years, just that Sarah Michelle Gellar looked like she was legitimately 15 and David Boreanaz seemed to be in his mid 20's. The episode, from the first season of the series, is an emotional powerhouse as the couple finally think they have a chance to be together only to have real life intervene. Obviously an easy cry like me gets a bit misty but I am guessing that almost all citizens of The Whedonverse find this to be an incredibly moving hour of television. Don't miss Angel this Monday on TNT.

Last week I ran a section going over the week's worth of shows returning from the strike, but all we've got this week is CSI: Miami, which comes back Monday at 10 pm on CBS, so I didn't want to waste…(pause while I put on my sunglasses)…the space.

The lack of Whitey is definitely frustrating. If he is dead or going to die I certainly hope it's off camera, I don't think I could make it through the episode if we had a Whitey funeral. I agree with you that Dan's character should be different then he was (did four years in prison wipe out all the change he made before turning himself in?) and I certainly hope he doesn't get full on redemption. If he wants to do better things that's fine, but I don't want everyone else to open him with open arms. Some sort of sacrifice would be best for him I think. Jackson Brundage is quite possibly the most adorable child star I've ever seen and having him on the show makes things a million times better. He enhances every scene that he's in and you can tell the other actors love working with him.

Hey Al. Great column as usual. This is that guy that sent you the Hybrid's speech from Battlestar. Must you remind us again that you've already seen the premiere? I don't usually get jealous but this is definitely an exception. Is there anything you can tell us about the episode before it airs? Y'know, aside from the fact that it's excellent?

I have also been enjoying the hell out of Dexter. My girlfriend and I have been tempted a few times to just rent the DVD's of season 1, but we always end up getting something else.

*minor spoiler alert*
And how awesome was last night's Lost? I wasn't sure if they would be able to make Michael a sympathetic character again, but they did. And should we start referring to The Others as The Good Guys now?

"...the single biggest piece of news in TTTP history"

Are you going to start watching the Wire?

I doubt that's it but if it were I'd take it as the biggest news in TTTP history.

Happy to see you're enjoying Dexter. Great series, though I wish CBS could show the season uncensored. I've yet to watch the edited CBS versions of the show, but I still wonder whether the censoring would be handled in a subtle manner or with block hands.

Thanks for your comments concerning religion in BSG. That aspect of the show is the one I usually use to explain to others why I like it so much. It really does help to more fully portray the human condition. I assume faith is not portrayed in tv because it can offend and put off its viewers. I guess that's why SciFi can take the chance because it wouldn't be losing big time viewership like on a major network. it's a shame, but i guess that's the way of it when the majority of the population doesn't want to get slapped in the face with fiction that is just a little too real.
