Deleted Scenes 05.15.08: Looking Ahead - May
Posted by Robert Sullivan on 05.15.2008

Hey everybody. I'm Rob, and welcome on back to another installment of Deleted Scenes. Let's go ahead and just get started today.

Two good things to talk about as the lead off story. First, Speed Racer bombed, which...well, it's unbecoming to brag in the first place, but it certainly wasn't a hard call to predict that one. Furthermore, might I just add that the clear and blatant attempts on the part of the Wachowskis to induce seizures in this great nation's children was just sick and wrong. Why would someone do that in the first place? And that's forgetting how seeing John Goodman in the ads having to cash a paycheck always made me sad, due to his involvement in The Big Lebowski.

Basically, Speed Racer flopping was a good thing for Achievers everywhere, and America as a whole.

Secondly, "Reaper" got renewed! The CW actually factually came through and gave a second season to a show that Americans were too busy ignoring in favor of "American Idol." Good for them. Before the renewal, it appeared that Bret Harrison was going to be this generation's version of Ted McGinley, and that's not good for anybody.

Of course, the price of renewing "Reaper" was the extralong wait, as it'll be back at midseason in 2009 for 13 episodes. A similar fate is in the cards for The Best Show Currently on Television, "Friday Night Lights," as I've decided I won't be d...viewing the third season episodes through alternate means when they air on DirecTV. 2009 looks to be a great year for television indeed.

But what of moviegoing lately? Well, steadfast Deleted Scenes fans, we seem to have hit a lull. A down period, if you will. A low point in the release schedule, perhaps. A barren timeframe, in fact. So what's coming out in the multiplexes that I have any interest in and thus you should as well? Glad you didn't ask.

Hmmmm...nothing! Nothing in the world, in fact!

Yes, if you're expecting the theatrical poster for that Chronicles of Narnia movie, shame on you! What do I always say? "Star Trek," Star Wars, and anything with walking talking trees suck!

Now, there might not be humanoid trees in that film, but I'm sure there's some fantastical bullshit going on. Flush it.

Well, I'll be making plans to watch the first three prior to seeing this fourth insta...

What's that? Surprise I've lived to nearly 24 years on Earth and not seen any films in the Indiana Jones franchise?

Yes, dear readers, much as people are strangely shocked when they hear that I've never eaten a Twinkie in my life, there is comparable shock that I've not viewed any of these movies.

I suppose that's notable, "American institution" and all that. Somewhere along the line, it just slipped on by. But fear not, as I said before, that situation will be rectified prior to the midnight screening on Thursday...or Wednesday, even.

I just hope The Next Tom Hanks isn't too Goddamned annoying in this one. Just seeing that hyper Asian kid in the commercials for the DVD box set sets my teeth on edge, and something about the massively overhyped LaBeouf does the same.

Yes. The Cusack. Drink it in, boys...and hopefully a few ladies too.

Jusssssst kidding.

Well, we already spoke about this one last week. In short, I've seen the Danish art house version, let's see some American (yes, that makes me nervous too) variation.

Until next week.
