NEWS, RUMORS AND OPINIONS
Edward Norton as Superman?
Moviehole.net is reporting that Edward Norton could land the role of the caped crusader in WB's upcoming movie. According to Moviehole's source, "it'll all come down to whether Norton can bulk him self up, physically, for the role. Sort of the way he looked in American History X."
DarkHorizons had the chance to talk to Superman director, Brett Ratner. Ratner confirmed that he would be looking for a big, buff guy. Ratner, of course, just directed Ed Norton and Anthony Hopkins in Red Dragon. Hopkins already has the role of Superman's father, Jor-el.
What about Dean Cain? Remember him? Hey, let's start up the Nic Cage talk again. I want an aging, balding Superman. Hell, Christopher Reeve can move a finger and they can do wonders with cgi and animation nowadays.
Grand Theft Auto movie:
Rockstar Entertainment, makers of the Grand Theft Auto games, recently told OPM (Official Playstation Magazine) that they're looking to make a movie version of their game. Rockstar hasn't found a decent production company yet and won't rush things just for the sake of making movie. They don't want to ruin the title and reputation of their game by coming out with a bad movie.
Gladiator 2:
According to IGN Filmforce, Gladiator 2 will be set in the age of Emperor Septimius Severus (AD 145 - AD 211). Here's what the Online Encyclopedia of Roman Emperors had to say about Septimius Severus: "Lucius Septimius Severus restored stability to the Roman empire after the tumultuous reign of the emperor Commodus and the civil wars that erupted in the wake of Commodus' murder." If you remember, Russell Crowe's character killed Commodus in Gladiator.
The Rock in Johnny Bravo?
Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. Pictures has purchased the live-action feature film rights to Cartoon Network's half-hour series Johnny Bravo. "When the Rock mentioned to Neal (Moritz) and myself he was a big fan of 'Johnny Bravo' and thought it was a great idea for a movie, we thought it was a natural fit and potentially a great role for him to play, so we went aggressively after the property," said producer Marty Adelstein.
The Ring 2:
Both Gore Verbinski and Naomi Watts recently talked with Fangoria about a possible Ring sequel. Verbsinski says "It would depend. I think they would only make a sequel if the movie was successful. I would only want to direct it if it was a really good story. I've not seen the prequel or sequel...Ehren Kruger's the expert on RINGU, so he knows all that stuff...I think what he'd do is grab from between the prequel and sequel and try to create something."
As for Naomi Watts, "Yeah, I would (return), I would always be nervous about doing a sequel, but just because I feel like I'm in safe hands - the DreamWorks people are really smart. We did a lot of script changes while we were shooting and we shot a few different endings and we didn't know what we were going to use and the way they played it out, I think, was really smart and I love the way it ends. So, I feel inspired and encouraged by that and hopefully Gore will be able to do the sequels, too". What would her character do? "I haven't thought about it, but she's obviously going to go through a lot again. It will be a big one. I do like that character, so I'd be happy to go to more dark, strange places."
Vin Diesel in Hannibal:
Here's what Vin Diesel had to say to Times Online about Hannibal, his newest project. No, not another Hannibal Lecter movie. This film would be about Hannibal, the Carthaginian general.
"But what I'm really excited about, is Hannibal. It's been a pet project for years." Producer, Joe Roth, is looking at possible directors. "I have a meeting with Ron Howard when I get home. It's going to be amazing. We'll have battles, elephants, Carthage . . . "
Chucky 5:
Fangoria magazine recently published an interview with Brad Dourif, the voice of Chucky. Unfortunately for Child's Play fans or fortunately for the rest of us, there won't be a Chucky 5. Here's what Dourif had to say: "It's unlikely there will ever be another sequel. I keep hearing rumors- that they're never going to do him again, they've decided he's bad for young people- I don't know. I think if they get a script they really like, they'll shoot it. That's my feeling, but I could be wrong."
