411 Movies Zone News Report 12.06.02
Posted by Lionel Bohbot on 12.06.2002
Did ya like the Star Wars stuff? How would you feel about the first pictures from Rock's new HELLDORADO movie? Maybe a quick Total Recall 2 fix? How about Eminem as a famous superhero?
Wow, we got ourselves some new blood. I want to be the first to welcome Jesse Mateja and Keith Chambers to the 411 Movies Zone staff. If they've somehow been working here for the past month and I hadn't noticed... well, I've been a pretty busy guy.
I'll be appearing in Bebito Jackson's Down-Lo News Report in the 411 Games Zone next week. It's a fun interview. Of course, he did have Hyatte last week and there's no way I can follow that. I think he has another big name for the week after which means I'm pretty much the standard bathroom break match during a PPV.
The interview is part of his 411 Spotlight feature or something like that. The guy couldn't even spell my name right. You expect me to remember the title of his news report?
Ah, he's a cool dude.
Speaking of cool dudes, The Sports Guy has an article up at ESPN's Page 2 site. Great stuff. Hope he does well on Jimmy Kimmel's new show. I know "Random Thoughts" columns are generally weak and meant to cover up the fact that the writer has nothing the talk about but The Sports Guy's stuff is never weak.
Nothing beats watching golf highlights and hoping that somebody clicked a photo during Tiger Woods's swing. "Oh, jeez, not during my swing! Come on! God dang it! Really!"
Other than the fact that it's 75 degrees every day, nothing gives me a bigger rush in California than going into Starbucks every morning and asking for a "large coffee." It's like a personal affront to everyone behind the counter, just because you didn't say "venti" or "grande" or whatever the heck it is. I can't recommend it highly enough. It's legitimately the highlight of my day.
We've got news to cover and it's 11:13 p.m. which means I still have time to get this report done and then draft my 15 season fantasy football team on Madden 2003. I'm picking up Marshall Faulk in the first round and aiming for Mike Vick. That guy is going to invent a new ratings system in the franchise mode and I'm a really good scrambler with non-running QB's (Drew Bledsoe, I'm looking at you) so imagine what I can do with Vick.
I've got opening night tickets to The Two Towers. Now that's cool. I have a big exam the next morning and I'm going to the dentist in the afternoon for a checkup or worse. Not cool.

Hey dude, read your column, had to respond to your Star Wars 3 rumors. First, Anakin HAS to get his ass kicked by Obi-Wan, it was explained that was how he got in the suit anyways(besides, even in episode 4, I never bought Vader aka Anakin being better than Obi-Wan). Second, Anakin killing Windu is good, only if he does this after Windu has killed Dooku, or Anakin killed Dooku. Windu is awesome, but he obviously has to die, so make it look like he died to the biggest bad ass(next to Obi-Wan). Third, this kind of ties into the first, maybe have Obi-Wan horribly wound Anakin early, then when Anakin is Vader, have him kill the Dooku and Windu or however. Either way, it gives us time to see more Vader, which personally, I've been hoping for since the new Episodes came out(WHY THE FUCK COULDN'T THEY HAVE SHORTENED THE LOVE STORY TO HAVE HIM TURN IN EPISODE 2????)
Now see, I'm sure George Lucas will find a way to fuck up Vader. I imagine we'll only see Vader (full costume and all) in the final scene. Then what? Are we supposed to go rent the fn' movies again to watch him in all his glory? I guess George will pick that time to release a huge original trilogy DVD set.
I don't want Anakin killing Windu because they have no history. Sure Windu didn't want Anakin to be a Jedi but these guys haven't really been in any scenes together. I'm hoping that Padme dies within the first thirty minutes. Ship off Luke and Leia to wherever the hell they end up in EP 4 (Tatooine for Luke). Have Anakin secretly turn on Obi-Wan because of Padme's death (say Obi-Wan was supposed to defend her and couldn't) and have him walk around in the costume, minus the respirator. The Jedi's know that there's a new Sith apprentice but they don't know his identity. Anakin leads a double life and then all hell breaks loose during the final battle with Obi-Wan.
That seems reasonable, no?
Sam Jackson has demanded to be killed by someone worthy. I just don't know if he finds Dooku worthy enough. I think Jackson's exact words were "I ain't getting shot in the back by no Storm Trooper."
Obi-Wan was never as strong as Anakin. Come on, Anakin is the chosen one. Better than Windu and Yoda (Star Wars geeks, correct me if I'm pissing on the story's history). Obi-Wan is an above-average Jedi with a decent sense of humor.
NEWS, RUMORS AND OPINIONS
Heldorado: The first pictures from The Rock's new movie can be found here. Vince McMahon is crazy if he turned down a Spider-Man 3 gig for The Rock. Maybe he just said "screw his movie career, I want him on RAW." With stuff like Helldorado, Rock will be lucky if he still has a movie career by the time Spider-Man 3 opens.
Total Recall 2: A sequel instead of King Conan? Seems like Arnold is going back to the stuff that worked for him (Terminator, True Lies, Total Recall, Conan). "Arnie is doing this instead of a third "Conan" which recently fell through because of rights issues. Verhoven is involved (director or producer), Sharon Stone is involved, Michael Ironside is involved, Ronny Cox is involved and Lars Harrison is involved. Some guy I've never heard of Gary Goldman did a draft. Having worked on preliminary stuff for films like "Superman Lives" that never went ahead I never get too excited about these things, because they have a tendency to fall through. This one's not targeted until at least Summer 2004 or Fall 2005 so it's a long ways off" (DarkHorizons.com)
Batman: Year One: Everyone's favorite white rapper is being considered for the role of the Caped Crusader. Now we all know that Batman had a troubled childhood but this is pushing it. In case rap's not your thing, the rapper's name is Marshall Mathers III. That would be Eminem for those of you living in a cave. Call me crazy but if Eminem the role, I don't think we'll be seeing Joel Schumacher again. (The Daily Star)
Hunter: One of DarkHorizons's spies or whatever had this about Stallone being involved in Luc Besson's Hunter: "Yes, Hunter is one of the movies Sly had in that 60 million 3 picture contract Sly signed in 1995 that was later terminated in 2000 that would pay him 20 million for the sci-fi epic. Stallone and Besson are said to be adapting and writing the screenplay together with Sly producing it and Besson directing. Stallone was at Universal Studios when the rumor broke." (DarkHorizons.com)
Die Hard 4: A Moviehole.net scoopster is saying that John McTiernan (Die Hard, Die Hard With A Vengeance) will direct the fourth movie. "There is news that Bruce Willis was pleased with a rough cut of John McTiernan's "Basic," and has once again requested him to take over the directing duties for "Die Hard 4." Nothing bad to say about that. Die Hard was a classic. Vengeance was solid. The plane movie just wasn't very good and that was a shocker. I mean, they brought back everyone, even Carl Winslow from Family Matters. (Moviehole.net)
Rule Number 3: Hugh Grant is set to join Robert De Niro in this Rob Bowman comedy. De Niro plays everyday schlub determined to take down an arrogant Wall Streeter played by Grant. Grant's character is described as the kind of guy from Enron, Tyco or ImClone who lives high on the hog while bilking his investors. ( Fox 411. Heh.
Hugh Grant sticks out like sore thumb in this report, what with Arnold, Stallone, Willis and The Rock.
MOVIES ZONE UPDATE
Eight Crazy Nights: Keith Chambers makes his debut at 411 Movies Zone with a review of Adam's Sandler's latest film.
