411 Movies Zone News Report 12.18.02

Is there some sort of blockbuster opening today? Look, I realize Jennifer Lopez has a new movie out but why are people lining up outside my house?
It's Lord of the Rings Wednesday!
I already have my tickets for the tree hour extravaganza. What am I looking forward to? I'd say Gollum and the 45 minute long Battle of Helm's Deep. The last time I was this excited about a movie was when Star Wars: Episode I opened. We all know how that turned out.
Some are comparing Lord of the Rings to Star Wars. In a sense, they're both epic trilogies (fuck the SW prequels). To me, Star Wars will always be better. I guess that has something to do with the scale the story is told on, light sabers and the best damn villain ever. I've always thought of Lord of the Rings as Braveheart with magic. Now don't get me wrong, Braveheart was good but it's no Star Wars.
And besides, I find those hobbits annoying. I'm waiting for Aragorn to turn to Sam and yell out "you're three foot nothin', a hundred and nothin' and you haven't got a speck of athletic ability in you!"
This report is quickie. I've got finals to prepare for, the aforementioned movie to see and a bunch of other stuff to do.
25th Hour: Yahoo ha inviato un mazzo di nuove immagini dal movie di Ed Norton/Philip Seymour Hoffman
Did that make sense? Blame AltaVista if it didn't.
The Ring 2: Walter F. Parkes decided to let us in on a few potential storylines: "There's an interesting prequel to be made which has to do with the parents who give birth to Samara and what happens. That's so beautifully explored in 'Rosemary's Baby'; the kind of anticipation you have about giving birth to a first child, and your fears and hopes and what happens with that. There's something interesting in all that. Unfortunately, I don't know any prequels that quite work as well as sequels do. We had a conversation and I actually brought up [that] and they're both ultimately about the creation of a fascinating monster. You're fascinated on the creation of Michael Corleone and I think you're fascinated by this little girl Samara and where does she come from. And I thought, like in "Godfather 2," maybe we can look forward and backward. We're trying to make arrangements with Gore and Ehren and we just have to roll our sleeves and get going with it quickly." (Cinecon.com)
Gangs of New York: Let's just give Daniel Day Lewis his Oscar right now. This guy always delivers. Mohican, My Left Foot, The Boxer. He looks great in Gangs and he's winning a bunch of b-level awards.
The Continental: Christopher Walken is interested in bringing the character he always does on SNL to the big screen. Now that might work. It's sure has hell better than Alec Baldwin's sweaty balls. "I said to [producer] Lorne Michaels, 'You know, you make all these movies like 'Wayne's World'...what about 'The Continental'?' And he said, Mmmmm...I'll think about it." Ok, so that probably means no but it's still an interesting idea.
Indiana Jones IV: Steven Spielberg confirmed the cameo talk surrounding Indy 4. "I'd like to get Karen Allen back for one sound bite, and there are other Indy girls who had smaller roles who will come back. Frank Darabont, who is writing the script, called me and said, 'I'm not sure we can work her [Kate Capshaw] into the script, too. Sean Connery as Indy's pop will be back for a few scenes, and it's set in the early '50s. That's all I'm saying, and I've already said too much."
Will Indy be fighting Nazis or Papa Shango?
Well maybe not the Nazis again seeing how the story takes place in the early 50's.
