Thanksgiving is right around the corner so come on in to this week's 3B's feast! Whet your appetite with Hollywood news about Heather Locklear's charges, a new Pinocchio on the way, and more. Then dig into Mike Gorman's Top Ten Film Families and a pictorial visit from Adriana Lima.
How's your week going? Better than Heather Locklear's is I hope. This week I'm bringing you a full serving of news, a side dish of my Top Ten opinions, and some tasty dessert in this week's Babe.
Adriana Lima is another Brazilian beauty gracing the 3B's page this year. She is primarily know for her modeling which has including being one of the Victoria's Secret angels but she has also crossed over into some acting. She has appeared as herself on "How I Met Your Mother" and "Ugly Betty." She also has the distinction of being named "Hottest Girl on the Planet" at Spike TV's first Guy's Choice awards.
Check out these latest Hollywood news bombs!
He cannot tell a lie...
Guillermo Del Toro, director of Hellboy is in talks with the Jim Henson Co. studios to produce a new big screen version of the fairytale Pinocchio. Del Toro stated that his vision of the film is darker than those of previous productions. I think this makes complete sense as it is a pretty dark story at times. He believes it will take approximately three years to complete this project.
Locklear charged with DUI
Although initial suspicions of Heather Locklear being under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol were proven false by medical tests, she has been charged with DUI for her September incident. Authorities believe that it is the prescription drugs that she was taking that caused her impairment and filed their charges on Monday. She will be arraigned January 26 in Santa Barbara, CA.
Eckhart gets his first action lead
Aaron Eckhart is set to take the leading role in the new film Battle: Los Angeles. Eckhart will play the leader of a Marine platoon that is battling an alien invasion on the streets of LA. Eckhart who is most recently recognized as playing Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight has turned in amazing indie performances in such films as Thank you for Smoking and Your Friends and Neighbors.
DiCaprio to shut up
Ok, maybe he will not be shutting up completely by Leonardo DiCaprio has stated this week that he feels it is time he lets up on pushing green issues so that people don't get annoyed with him. In a story on IMDB.com DiCaprio spoke of want to make sure people were paying attention to the issues and not just listening to him go on about having solar panels at his home. Interestingly enough he mentioned that he had solar panels at his home about four times in the ten line story. If that is backing off, I hate to see what he starts saying if he decides to re-intensify his efforts,.
Will she or won't she?
Looks like she won't. While rumors of George Clooney returning for a visit to "ER" before the series closes forever this season still swirl about, his on screen love Carol Hathaway aka Julianna Margulies will definitely not be returning. The actress feels that Carol's story has been told to the best of its ability and that any further appearances might ruin that happy ending she already had. I guess I can get on board with that logic and support her, especially seeing as she turned down millions of dollars on principle when she left the show. Now what has she been in lately?
I don't care, I like it
The new Star Trek trailer that premiered in theaters this weekend before some unappreciated James Bond flick has hit the internet. Check it out here for yourself. I think it looks like a lot of fun. And who knew that all those characters from the original Trek were models in their youth?
The holidays are rushing in on us and soon there will be no turning back. It will start with Thanksgiving and cruise on through New Years. One common thread for this season, besides incredibly large meals, is of course family. This week I will present you with my Top Ten Film Families. Hope you can digest them all!
10. The Banks from Father of the Bride
I like this family because they try so hard to be the "classic" American picture perfect family yet instead they are much more likely to talk over each other's heads than listen. I think it is hilarious that the mother and daughter whip up such a frenzied wedding planning tornado that the father (played in the 1991 version by Steve Martin) finds that he has only himself to talk to and to make suggestions to. This film's classic moment is the reception at the home after the wedding. It moves super fast and before you know it they cut the cake, tossed the bouquet, and left on the honeymoon before the father could even get through the crowd. He should have been pissed off. It is amazing that they would do all those wedding traditions without the dad there. The first time I saw this I got angry and after that I laughed at the absurdity of it all. Plus Martin Short steals the show as Fraaank, the wedding planner.
9. The Wormwoods from Matilda
Roald Dahl's Matilda is a kids' movie with just enough stuff to keep you entertained as an adult. The Wormwoods are not your average family by any means. Portrayed by Danny Devito and Rhea Pearlman, these parents are into what is cool not what is best. When Matilda expresses any interest in learning they squash it and make her watch TV. It is amazing! The obliviousness to her abilities and pranks while they prattle on with their nonsense makes them fun to watch and funnier to mock. Think about them next time you see some kid trying to pick up a book. We have enough of them there smarty pants kids in this country!
8. The Larsons from Home for the Holidays
To me this film is one of the most realistic portrayals of the visit home to the family at Thanksgiving ever created. From the overbearing parents to the brother portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., this is a wild clan that clearly has more issues than you can stuff in a 20lb turkey! Holly Hunter plays Claudia Larson who is having a terrible week (lost her job, her teen daughter is going to have sex, and she made out with her ex-boss) and decides to come home for the holidays anyway. This film is packed with very funny speeches, throwaway moments that will make you laugh hard, and even some touching moments that show that even if a family doesn't understand each other completely they always do on some level... maybe.
7. The McCallisters from Home Alone
This family makes my list for one reason. They forgot one of their kids when they went on vacation. Somehow instead of becoming a sad Lifetime movie, this scenario leads to incredulous hilarity. I don't mean Culkin's antics at home instead I refer to the mom's journey to get home herself. Shouldn't child services somehow be involved here? I would loved to have a sequel about that!
6. The Emersons from The Lost Boys
A divorced mother brings her sons, one a colorful comic book fan who loves Rob Lowe and the other a sullen, brooding motorbike rider, to live with her eccentric taxidermist father. Toss in some vampires and you have one hell of a classic family tale. The Emersons may be far from perfect but at least they staked the baddies in the end. The mom's last line as she hugs her gore soaked sons, "Oh Dad!" is a great example of how clueless people can sometimes survive in the end.
5. The Skywalkers from Star Wars
This family has it all... potential incest, father/son betrayal, and superhuman powers. Throughout the films they take us on a roller coaster ride of emotions as Luke wants Leia who turns out to be his sister, Darth Vader cause Luke to lose his hand as he reveals his identity in the middle of a big fight. They may be in a galaxy far far away but damn they sound like they would be perfect for an episode of Jerry Springer; and that's why I love them. I'm man enough to admit I shed a tear as Luke fell from the parapet after Vader's big reveal. Though I must admit I kind of wanted Luke to turn bad. C'mon, I was seven and the bad guys seemed cooler.
4.The Addams from Addams Family
A total freakshow of love and loyalty, the Addams are the family we should all aspire to have. They each have their quirks and their dark sides but they stick together when the times get tough. What more could you ask for? Plus they have a kick ass home.
3. The Griswolds from National Lampoon's Vacation
For all his fumbles and quirks, Clark Griswold is a dedicated father with a clear and concise vision of what it means to be a family. Sadly his did not ever ask his wife and kids opinions on that vision but that is half the fun. His drive to reach their goals and his families indifference capture the essence of the American family vacation, in all of its forms. No one takes disappointment and turns it into lemonade like a Griswold.
2. The Tenebaums from Royal Tenebaums
Far from normal, this family does not always know how to express love or really any normal emotions, but together they make up some great film scenes. This movie is a masterpiece in deconstructing family and letting their individualities create fascinating moments. You may not end up loving every member of this clan but you will enjoy the ride they take you on.
1.The Corleones from The Godfather
How could I make a list of families and not include THE family. They will pull you in as you learn the family business and what it means to be loyal. With all the action that surrounds them it is easy to see that this family cares for each other and loves each other albeit is a bit of a twisted way at times. You see how strong the bond of family can be and just what can happen you turn against that bond. As Michael tells Fredo, "..don't ever take sides with anyone against the Family..."
Have a great week!

"Though I must admit I kind of wanted Luke to turn bad. C'mon, I was seven and the bad guys seemed cooler. "
Reminds me of that Star Wars Robot Chicken episode where Luke has all these fantasies about ruling at his Dad's side and getting to do all those fun father/son things they didn't do in his youth. I thought it was pretty funny.

Nice Lima pics. But i prefer Alexandria Ambrosso over her. Ambrosso has more the body and hotter. But Audriana is single. So hey why not. And i liked your article on home alone. I thought the parents were more funny then the kid actually. Especially uncle frank. "If it makes you feel any better, I left my glasses."
