Jackass Number Two: Unrated DVD Review
Posted by Ulises Corona on 01.13.2007

By now, most of you reading this have already seen the film and have your own opinions towards it. I’m going to ignore the fact that the majority of you have already seen it and give you a complete breakdown of . Maybe you missed something in the extras the first time around or perhaps you’ll just be inspired to watch the film again and again.

THE BREAKDOWN

Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Preston Lacy, Ryan Dunn, Ehren McGhehey, Wee Man and the rest of the crew return to the big screen to raise the stakes. The film starts off with a bang and ultimately raises the stakes with each segment. The first segment sets the bar for all the stunts that follow and while the film does mellow down, for Jackass standards, it none-the-less remain entertaining. There are goodies from the first film and past episodes, as well as, completely new stuff that will shock your very core.

Jackass Number 2 Unrated goes above and beyond from the first film. The movie is filled with segments that will be hard to get out of your mind. If you watch this film, don’t expect to come out of watching the film the same. It will desensitize you. I don’t recommend the film if you have a weak stomach or just cringe at the thought of someone anal chugging. Yes, I said ANAL CHUGGING. Much like the television show and original movie, Jackass Number 2 is intended for a specific audience. If stupid humor does not tickle your funny bone, by all means avoid this film. Chances are, if you’re reading this review you already have you’re mind made up about the “comedic value” of Jackass.

Hardcore fans have an expectation for Jackass and this film is definitely what everyone expects. The unrated version takes the film to a whole different level. It's absolutely hilarious. As a fan, it’s safe to say that Jackass Number 2 is better than the original. The casts’ disregard for their safety only makes the film that much better; it’s literally the drive to out do each other that makes this film like nothing the original Jackass ever created.

TECH SPECS

This film is presented in widescreen format. The audio is in Dolby Digital Surround sound 5.1 or English 2.0 surround and it also has the option of either English or Spanish subtitles.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Commentary by Johnny Knoxville, Steve-o, Chris Pontius, Ryan Dunn, Wee Man, Preston Lacy, Dave England, Ehren Mcghehey, Jeff Tremaine, Dimitry Elyashkevich – Finally a commentary track that provides insight. The cast members recall their thoughts while performing the outrages stunts throughout the film. It’s pretty much one big look behind the scenes for each of the stunts: the story behind the stunt, what occurred during the stunt, what they were trying to achieve and the final outcome. The guys had fun while making this film and you can really tell that they had fun recording the audio commentary for it. It’s a good watch for those of you interested in the stories behind the stunts.

The Making of: Jackass Number Two – Johnny Knoxville welcomes us to the making of Jackass Number 2. There’s tons of footage in this short and it’s supported with good interviews from the cast and crew. It’s a really strong short that covers the filming of the movie from day one to the last day of shooting. Shoot number one was Chris Pontius getting his penis munched on by a snake. They literally took a mouse and rubbed it against his penis to give it a mouse sent in order to attract the snake. The first day of shooting was also the reunion for the cast. In this short, they all talk about their experiences regarding the first stunt/segment and discuss how it helped all of them get back into the mood of jackass. The biggest problem the cast and crew encountered while filming was that they were being instantly recognized during the street stunts. As a result, they disguised the cast more, did things out in the open amongst themselves or pulled pranks on each other. This is probably the best extra in the DVD.

Unrated Additional Segments – These segments are in no way included in the final version of the film. So they are refreshing and new, unlike the other extra segments provided in the extras.

Bam Disclaimer: Bam tells the audience that if they see the Dickhouse Symbol (rainbow) they should look away because they’re about to get gay.
The Ball Bookmark: A guy places his balls in an open book and Wee Man slams the book shut. Ouch! It looked really painful.
Novak Drop in: Novak drops from the top of a ramp on a skateboard and slams bare ass on the cement.
Wee Man & Bam Elevator Ride: A naked Wee Man and Naked Bam ride the elevator together.
Penis Tricks: The Master of the Dick Stick “Baba” rolls a long stick on his dick, “it’s like a little fruit rollup” and uses the stick to support Knoxville on his shoulders. It has to be the most painful thing I’ve ever seen. Steve-o gets naked dangles his penis and makes it disappear behind his legs, ending with a back flip to everyone’s amusement.
Preston Middle Butt: Words can’t describe this; you’ll have to see it for yourself. I guess the title sums it up.
90 Year Old Music Video: Johnny Knoxville and Spike Jonze dress up like an old man and woman running around town.

Deleted Scenes – These deleted scenes were cut for a reason. The scenes are just left over stunts of stuff that wasn’t funny or more takes of a stunt that made it to the final cut of the film.

Additional Segments – These segments are all showed; well at least partially shown during the ending credits. If you’re a fan that can’t get enough of jackass these will serve you well, I just found them boring and repetitive. There are also some segments that were just not funny or twisted enough to make it to the final unrated version.

Trash Can Pyramid: Steve-o attempts to jump over a trash can pyramid with a little help of a swing.
The Ding Dong: Knoxville rigs a door bell so that when it’s pushed an air bag flies out and smacks the person in the face. Jeff Tremaine, Spike Jonze, Ryan Dunn, Steve-o (in a clown suit) are just some of the people that fall victim to the ding dong.
Bellhop Cart/Flying 69: Steve-o, John Waters and Pontius attempt to clear a flight of stairs on a bellhop car. Chris Pontius and Bam also perform the flying 69.
Alaskan Wolf Trap: Jim Karol shows us his fox trap. Bam sticks his hand into the trap and runs off crying.
Cow Udder: Preston feeds some calves while wearing a cow suit.
Dildo Tricks 1: Knoxville slams a dildo onto a table and bursts out in laughter.
Dildo Tricks 2: Knoxville does the same as before, but this time it’s onto a wall.
The Shock Phone: The boys use a 1945 military field phone, used as a torture device, to shock each other. They even get Luc Wilson.
Party Boy Bollywood: Pontius dances in India with several other female dancers. There’s too much zooming in on Pontius’ bare ass and not enough of zooming in on the ladies.
Wee Horse: Wee Man introduces us to a Wee Horse (a dwarf horse).
Stun Gun Potato: Willie Garson, Ryan Dunn, Knoxville and Ehren “Danger” play hot potato with a stun gun.
Trash Can Cymbals: Knoxville takes trash can cymbals and smacks people around with them.
Poo Piling: Steve-o stands in the middle of a field and poo falls from a bulldozer’s scoop high above him.
Loomis in India: Loomis wrestles on the ground with a skinny man that sorta looks like him.
90 Year Old: Tourist Photo: Knoxville and Jonze dress as an elderly couple ask for a passer by to take a picture of them and Knoxville collapses. Not that funny.
Ugly American: In India, Knoxville jumps in while two random men are walking and holds their hands and wraps their arms around his waist, the men show no reaction and just act nonchalant about it.
Me Tattoo: Steve-o gets a “ME” tattoo. He literally gets the word “me” tattooed on his chest.
Wiener Kite: Wee Man flies a kite with his wiener.
Three Legged Dog: Ryan Dunn makes a three legged dog fetch for her plastic leg while people watch in disbelief.
Homemade Hang-Glider: Steve-o attempts to fly off a high hill with a homemade glider.
Half Pipe Drop-in: Bam drops from a half pipe, slams into a garage door and knocks himself out cold.
90 Year Old: Make-Out: Knoxville and Jonze make out in a public place while people ignore them. The people around them just don’t seem to care! It’s probably because Knoxville and Jonze are dressed like an elderly couple. The segments are just getting worse and worse.
90 Year Old: Café: Jonze (dressed like and old lady) accuses a young man of trying to touch her breast. Knoxville (dressed like an old man) comes to the rescue.
90 Year Old: Hollywood Blvd.: Jonze, dressed like an old woman, tries to prostitute herself.
90 Year Old: Ladder: Knoxville, dressed like an old man, sets up a ladder and asks someone to hold it for him while he climbs up and exposes his old sagging balls.
Lobster Claw: Steve-o French kisses a lobster by letting the lobster’s claws pinch his tongue.
Dunn Bike off Picnic Bench: Ryan Dunn bikes off a picnic table and hits the grass hard.
Poo Mountain: Novak and Steve-o attempt to ski down a poo mountain.
Bird Splat: Brandon DiCamillo, in a wheel chair, picks up a dead bird and pretends to bite its head off.

Outtakes – There’s nothing spectacular here; it’s more behind the scenes stuff that’s not in any of the other extras.

Karazy Music Video – Chris Pontius and Big Nasty perform Karazy. This music video includes the entire cast doing what they do best: stupid stuff. Overall, it’s entertaining and is just there to promote the Jackass Number 2 soundtrack.

Theatrical Trailer

Unrated VMA Spots – This includes the “Lobster Claw” segment and the “shock phone” segment. They all promote the viewers choice award.

Photo Gallery – In this extra the viewer has the ability to look through a jackass photo album. It includes pictures of the cast and crew while filming Jackass Number 2.

Previews

The 411: This DVD package is amazing, it comes packed with enough extras to last you for hours. It’s too bad that most of these extras repeat themselves not only in the ending credits of the film, but the extras themselves. However long the extras may seem I’m sure some fans will enjoy watching them. Think of it as the extreme behind the scenes look at the film. The film has a good progression of segments and the beginning and end compliment each other well. No, not the running with the bulls in the beginning or musical piece at the end, but the actual first stunt: Chris Pontius’ penis vs. the snake and the ending prank on Ehren “Danger” McGhehey. Jackass Number 2 starts off with the most outrages thing you can’t think of and ends with one of the biggest pranks I’ve ever seen on screen. The snake segment sets the bar for the film and it sets it high. The film never falls short. Everything is a progression; the segments only escalate into more gruesome and unbelievable segments. The risks involved are over the top, you can really tell that the actors really stepped it up a notch for the sequel.
