No prognosticating her, on with the show…

Joey shows off his new digs to the gang as we begin. The apartment that he decorated himself looks quite unusual with the panther coffee table and water board. Chandler is noticeably absent. Joey then shows off his bathroom with a telephone next to the toilet.

Rachel trips on her way to giving Monica the last apple pie. After sneakily getting her way out that one, Phoebe walks in and announces she’s been discovered. Good joke from Chandler about discovering her already. A producer wants to do a demo, video, and then possibly an album of “Smelly Cat.” Ross gets the pie out of the man’s hood in a nice payoff.

Monica can’t get Ross out of the bathroom. Ross pads his hair as he gets out. The arguments with Ross and Monica are always priceless. Joey spends time in his apartment all alone. The statue of the dog staring straight will play a great part in this show during season four, but for right now it just makes the place look a bit gaudier. Chandler is also alone in his apartment playing with his wolf slippers. Honestly, what self-respecting heterosexual male wears stuffed animals on his feet? THEY EVEN MAKE NOISE! Chandler can’t decide whether to call Joey. He does eventually call him, and they talk. These poor guys miss each other, but somehow find the time to watch Baywatch together. A not so nice joke about Chandler liking Yasmine Bleeth is made. It’s not nice since Matthew Perry and her allegedly dated. First her, then Julia Roberts… DAMN.

Joey talks with Monica and Phoebe about how he doesn’t want to live on his own. Turns out he didn’t have as many thoughts as he well… thought. Joey wants to move his back in and the girls convince him to ask Chandler. Meanwhile Ross is saying how Chandler needs to move on and find a new roommate. Phoebe is recording “Smelly Cat” for the producer. She’s thrown off by the back-up singers. Ross is then seen arguing with with someone about dinosaurs on the phone. Too bad his sister is trying to take a nap. A call for Monica comes in. Someone named Joanna. Wait, these people have other friends? Monica is not happy. Ross plays a very mean joke by telling her sister Richard is on the phone when it’s actually their mom. That was cold.

Chandler is bouncing a ball off the door when Joey enters. Joey seems about ready to ask to move back when Eddie walks in as Chandler’s new roommate. Joey collects his moosehead hat and seems a little disgruntled about the whole situation. Monica, Rachel, and Ross are talking about Eddie when Phoebe comes in with her music video of “Smelly Cat.” We get the pleasure of seeing it too. And it’s painfully awful but in a funny way. Phoebe thinks she sounds amazing. What she doesn’t understand is that they dubbed her voice for someone who sounds creepily like an Alanis Morisette reject.

Joey knocks on the door to his old apartment to pick up his mail. Chandler and Eddie are enjoying breakfast. Chandler, in particular, is enjoying the eggs Eddie made. Then it’s one of those patented “discussions that are about one thing but are talked about like something sexual or relationships.” This whole argument hilariously illustrates just how awesome Joey and Chandler are together.

Ross and Monica still can’t along. And when it comes down to a nature show versus Entertainment Tonight, I will always vote for a DVD of some sort. Rachel tries to settle them down by staying out of it. Monica lets it all hang it out as she doesn’t want her brother around all the time and hated his brother when they were kids. Ross gets the hint after some time. The best part is Ross holding the remote control the whole time they’re talking. AT least we have a resolution.

Rachel and Ross are canoodling in Central Perk when Phoebe walks in to inform her “shocked” Friends that the voice on the video was not hers. A contract was given for Phoebe to sign saying it was okay for her voice to be dubbed over. Phoebe doesn’t think this video thing is such a good idea. She especially feels sorry for the poor woman doing the voiceover thing.

Chandler offers to play some foosball with Eddie, but he doesn’t like sports. He also doesn’t like Baywatch. I guess the honeymoon is over. “By My Side” plays over Joey and Chandler longing for each other. This entire sequence is damn brilliant. Phoebe sings “Smelly Cat” at Central Perk and everyone sings along except Ross who gets lost.

The “How you Doin’ moment?”Funniest Lines/Moments: Joey and Chandler arguing about who’s eggs were better.

The “Oh no!” moment (weakest moment of the episode): Phoebe’s little speech at the end was confusing and not all that funny.

FRIENDS TRIVIA REVEALED!: Monica hated Ross when they were younger.

The 411: Well, I guess this show can add another pop culture phenomenon to their belt with this song. Kinda one of those so bad it’s good deals. This episode follows three pretty great shows, and to even try to top yourself week after week is a challenge. Give the writers credit at this point for making things light even with three big plot threads going on. In the next episode, we get to see the beginning of Eddie’s downward spiral.

Final Score:  7.5   [ Good ]  legend
