Just Another Day At The Office Retro 07.11.08: Sexual Harassment Review
Posted by Seth Roy on 07.11.2008

Dada dah, dada dada dah, dada dada dada dah…

Whoo! Sexual Harassment this week, folks!

Michael approaches Jim and asks if he’s gotten any e-mails. He urges Jim to check his spam folder for a forward about how to tell if your priest is Michael Jackson. Talking head, Michael says he’s the King of Forwards. He says the office is like “Friends.” He is Joey and Chandler. Pam is Rachel. Dwight is Kramer. (Get it?)

Dwight shows Michael a monkey sex link, which Michael thinks is pretty funny. Todd Packer surprises Michael and says, “What has two thumbs and likes to bone your mom? … This guy!” Michael says he and Todd are “Total BFF.” He tells a story about meeting a set of twins once and Todd told them they were brothers. The wins went back to their hotel room, and Todd did both of them. Michael: “It was awesome.”

Michael talks about gossip with Todd Packer in the middle of the office. The CFO of the company resigned because he was banging his secretary, who was a dumb blonde. Wait, wait: All women are dumb. (This is coming from Todd, and Michael trying to be cool with him. Of course, there are women all around.)

Jim asks, “What has two thumbs and hates Todd Packer? This guy!”

Todd needs someone to drive him around because he had a DUI (He’s a sales rep.) Michael tells Ryan to drive Todd. Funny line: Michael says, “Todd can do anything.” Jim says, “Except pass a breathalizer.” Outside, Todd’s license plate says “WLHUNG.” Ryan asks him if he’s a fan of William Hung, to which Todd asks why everyone says that to him.

Pam’s mom is going to visit Pam for the first time at work. Jim is excited, and says he has a lot of questions for her.

Michael says “Forward it like it’s hot” like “Drop it like it’s hot.”

Toby wants to talk to Michael, which makes Michael angry. He says Toby is part of corporate and not a part of the office family. “Also he’s divorced, so he’s not a part of his family.”

Toby tells Michael the CFO resigned because of sexual harassment, and he wants to review the company’s policy with the employees. Michael goes nuts about losing E-mail forwards and inappropriate jokes.

Michael tells a joke about a guy getting crabs from a “lady of the night,” and says, “This is what’s at stake.”

Michael goes to the warehouse to find a killer joke that will blow everyone away. Instead, Roy and Darrell just make fun of Michael the whole time. He walks away eventually.

During Toby’s review of the policy, Pam tells everyone her mom is coming in, to which Kevin replies, “MILF.” Michael walks in with a naked blow-up doll. He asks if they realize what they’re losing. Angela hates them. Big surprise. Michael points out Stanley’s hot picture of a girl in a Catholic school girl outfit…It’s Stanley’s daughter. Someone asks about office relationships, which Toby says are a bad idea and should be disclosed to HR. Phyllis asks if one-night stands should be disclosed…Michael talks about all the women he could have dated in the office.

Jim is in an office relationship…He pulls over the blow-up doll, who is without a shirt.

Michael roleplays that Pam is a lesbian, and wants Pam to act it out…with the blow-up doll. Pam declines.

Michael and the warehouse guys and Kevin are made to watch a video about sexual harassment. No one else wants to join.

Dwight asks Toby about different parts of the female anatomy. Toby is saddened that Dwight didn’t know about that before. (all of the products in the vending machine are turned backwards here. Odd.)

Back to the video. A red-haired girl gets asked if the “carpet matches the drapes.” Darrell stops the video, and says he nailed the girl at a party. Michael runs out into the office and yells, “The girl in the video we’re watching that corporate gave us, Darrell banged her!” As Jan walks in. Funniest moment on the show.

Michael tries to justify his forwarding by saying, “You wouldn’t arrest a guy who was just delivering drugs from one guy to another.”

Jan and the lawyer talk to Michael. Michael tells the office they can’t be friends anymore. He is no longer allowed to say anything funny. Jim asks if that includes “That’s what she said,” then says, “That is really hard. You really think you can go all day long? You always left me satisfied.” Michael blurts out a “That’s what she said.”

Michael brings in a lawyer, not understanding that the lawyer Jan brought was on his side. He forgets that he is corporate. How the heck could Jan ever want to be with Michael?

Pam’s mom walks in. And Michael walks out with the naked blow-up doll.

Todd is telling an inappropriate joke, which makes Phyllis uneasy.

Jim goes to introduce himself to Pam’s mom, but Roy walks in. Roy, done all up and looking like a Beaver Cleaver, walks outside to wait. As soon as that happens, Pam’s mom asks, “So, which one is Jim?’ I’m not sure if Jim heard that. He kind of smirks, though.

Todd talks about a nymphomaniac convention. Kevin says Phyllis is ugly. Michael stops him, and says Phyllis is like a grandmother. (They’re the same age.) Michael sends Kevin to his corner.

Michael gets down beside Phyllis and tells her she is pretty. He loves her. He hugs her. This makes her blush. He kisses her on the cheek. The only thing he is worried about…is getting a boner…

It would be inappropriate for him to take a bath with Pam, as much as he might want to…

Thoughts: Funny, funny episode, from beginning to end. The blow-up doll is a great visual, and is used for a few sight gags through the episode.

Todd Packer is such a jerk, and it’s great to see that no one likes him. The William Hung line is pretty funny. Just for fun, here’s some William Hung!

There really is just too much funny stuff here to point anything specific out. The laugh-out-loud moment of the series so far is when Michael storms out of the conference room to say that Darrell banged the girl in the video, while Jan is there. I’ve seen this episode more often than any other episode, and I still laugh hard every time I see that part.

There wasn’t a whole lot of character development here, as far as the main characters. We see Michael’s idiocy again, yes, but he still is just trying to be liked. It is interesting that Pam has talked to her mom about Jim, and it seems that her mom may not be so high on Roy either.

Funnier William Hung video:

The 411: This episode has just about everything I like about the office: Laughs, awkward moments, a lot of good, funny characters and a little bit of character development. This is one of my favorite episodes of the show's history. Watch it.
