[Movies] Disney to Remake Flight of the Navigator Posted by Larry Csonka on 05.26.2009
The cult hit to return to film…
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney and Mandeville productions are set to remake the 1986 sci-fi adventure Flight of the Navigator. The original 1986 film saw a young boy abducted by an alien spacecraft in 1978. He then reappears 8-years later, but still the same age and with no memory of the abduction. NASA scientists try to exploit the boy once they discover a connection between the boy and a downed spacecraft. The original only made $17 million at the box office, but was a big cult hit once it hit VHS. John Hyde, the original executive producer will be back in the same role for the remake.

And they will probably have the Rock somehow starring in it. Yes, I said the Rock, not Duane Johnson.

The Rock will not be in this movie but they are looking into making it a darker story line this time.

Oh for the love of God, please stop re-making stuff for the sake of it!
I can understand it if a re-make, re-boot, re-imagining etc makes sense (e.g. The Ring being accessible to an English speaking audience, King Kong taking advantage of improved special effects).
The story, SFX etc in the original Flight of the Navigator haven't dated enough to warrant a remake, so what's the point? Dragging Sarah Jessica Parker's hairstyle kicking and screaming into the 21st century is not a good enough reason!

I believe it was 1979, not 1978. Anyway, one of my favorite movies growing up

Sweet. Here's hoping a D.A.R.Y.L. remake is in the works.

The plot for this film will be. Miley Cyrus is abducted by an alien spacecraft in 2009. She then reappears 8-years later and finds the majority of the world's population has been converted to Mileyology. They view her return as a mircle and treat her as a prophet. So now she has to lead a large religious orgianization along with balancing her singing career and trying to find her true love while being in the spotlight. It will make 100 million at the box office easy.

This just in, Hollywood are planning on remaking the first Pokemon movie. Only this will be darker, with a harder edge.

I'd so watch that. Better than what the movie actually will be. HA!

What? NO! Dammit! Like that other guy said, aside from being over 20 years old, it still holds up well visually, there's absolutely no reason to remake it aside from Disney and pretty much all studios being allergic to new ideas.
