[Movies] Writer Set For Spider-Man 5 & 6
Posted by Larry Csonka on 08.17.2009

According to Variety, Sony Pictured has hired James Vanderbilt to write the scripts for Spider-Man 5 & 6. Vanderbilt wrote the original script for Spider-Man 4, which goes into production early next year and is set for a May 6th, 2011 release date. Sam Raimi reportedly didn't "embrace" all of Vanderbilt's ideas, which prompted a rewrite by David Lindsay-Abaire. Gary Ross is now rewriting that script. Executives at Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios like Vanderbilt's work, and he is now in charge of the 5th and 6th films, which will reportedly have an interconnecting storyline.

As of now it is unclear if Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst will be back for the 5th and 6th films. If they aren't back, the scripts for the 5th and 6th films could be used as a blueprint for a franchise reboot.

I would only take a franchise reboot if Marvel gets the rights and intertwines it with their Marvel movie-verse. Otherwise its the lamest thing ever.

Yeah Rami didn't like that Vanderbilt didn't include enough montages and dancing numbers in his script.

Please don't freaking re-boot, too soon, but replace Maguire, Dunst, and Rami. The fact they treated the last one like a chore is reason enough.

This could have been such a great series but I have a feeling Rami is going to put a stake into it after this upcoming one.

Stupid idea if they're gonna re-boot the movie.

So we are rebooting franchises that are scarcely ten years old now? Interesting.

Michael J Fox as Peter Parker.

Yeah as long as Sony has the rights don't reboot just continue as the 007 franchise did when they recast (before the Craig reboot).

Ever notice that the comic book films have yet to bring someone back from the dead (except the Professor X tease at the end of X3). The Green Goblin could totaly come back for 5&6. He's been dead a ton of times in the comic.

How can they "reboot" it so soon? Hollywood is getting really bad and just keep making the same movies but tweaking them.
Someone wants to rewrite a movie because they think it could be better? Well it can't.
4 Spiderman Movies are probably enough... so does it really matter?

let's nor forget that Spiderman 3 was treated like a chore because of Sony's insistance that the fanboys be catered to and Venom be inserted at all costs.

How about we dont make Marvel films as most of them have sucked ass?

I mean they were gunning to have Will Smith as Captain America. What next Johnny Depp as The Black Panther?

"Michael J Fox as Peter Parker."

Maguire could never get the "shaking with rage" scenes down...

Reboot with Marvel control PLEASE!

They would have never let Spiderman 3 happen!

I'm with you guys. I would like to see what Marvel could do with it. Spidey is their flagship character, and he deserves to be mixed in with their expanding movie-verse.

Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst don't come back for the rest, they're not that hard to replace.

As much as I like them in their respective roles. I think Jake Gyllenhaal and Nikki Cox would do just fine.

If Raimi doesn't want to return, go with Gore Verbinski. Look at the job he did with the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Spiderman movies had they been made in the 80s with Fox as Parker would have been fucking glorious.

Didn't James Cameron want to direct a Spider-man movie when the rights were being moved around? That could have been really awesome.

WRONG!!!!

I never saw it, but didn't they reboot The Incredible Hulk after just one movie? Or was it a direct sequel to 2003's The Hulk?

Has anyone actually SEEN Nikki Cox lately? Yikes. Bad idea.

Bryce Howard would've been great as MJ (being a natural redhead and, yknow...likable) if they hadn't screwed up and cast her as Gwen Stacy in part 3. If they really want to re-cast Spider-Man, go with a near-unkown, like Maguire was when he started.

However, keep J.K. Simmons cast as J. Jonah Jameson from now until the end of time. He's awesome.

I say reboot the franchise with a new cast and give us Alistair Smythe and the Spider Slayers or Carnage.

Rachel Nichols for Mary Jane, she was a hot lil red head in GI Joe

Can you blame them for treating it like a chore? IT SUCKED. Marvel thought they knew a director's job better than the freakin' director, and forced a whole lot of stupid bullshit on Raimi. The only reason he came back for #4 is because they promised to put him back to the level of control he had for the first two movies - which were FUCKING AWESOME.
