I took a gander at the poster for Clint Eastwood's Invictus, which focuses on Nelson Mandela, and I thought about my favorite biopics. That raises 411's Movie Feedback question...
What is Your Favorite Biopic Film?
This is a tough one. While I would say I adore 1928's The Passion of Joan of Arc, 1972's Aguirre, The Wrath of God, and 1962's Lawrence of Arabia a great deal, and are all deserving pics, but one could make arguments that the first two are not biopics in the strictest sense of the term. Lawrence of Arabia came close, but I have always had a soft spot for Ted Demme's Blow starring Johnny Depp, which centered on the life of George Jung. It might be an unconventional pick, but I love it all the same. Not only is it one of the most underrated films ever made, but it is a brilliant saga of a man's life, the bad decisions he made, and whee they caused him to end up. In my opinion, it is one of Depp's best performances. It is not just about drugs, and it is worth another look.
So what is your opinion? What do you think the greatest biopic is? Has that pick changed in recent years? Is there any person that deserves to have a film based on their life?

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. Hey, he's a real guy! After the credits they show the REAL Dewey Cox! Right? Right? Hey, did you hear the news? Dewey Cox died! No, say it isn't so, Dewey Cox died!

Completely agree with Blow. Funny thing is this movie didn't pop into my mind immediately but as soon as it was mentioned in your write up I knew it was my choice as well. Okay, well, either Blow or another Johnny Depp film, which isn't exactly a biopic but a movie based on true events; Donnie Brasco.

Best Biopic definitely has to be Into The Wild, starring Emile Hirsch and directed by Sean Penn. Beautiful film!

I used to say Sid and Nancy, but it's such a downer of a film. Ray is another good one - not so much the movie itself but Jamie Foxx's performance. He IS Ray Charles in that movie.

Malcolm X. Not the "best" movie Spike Lee has done (IMO, that's The 25th Hour or Do the Right Thing), but it is by far his most inspired and audacious attempt. It was also the movie where Denzel Washington went from "Denzel Washington" to just "Denzel".
