[Movies] Dane Cook Wants To Play Riddler In Batman 3 Posted by Ashish on 11.11.2009
Would he make a good choice?
Rumors continue to fly that The Riddler will be the main villain in the next Batman movie. Names like Eddie Murphy, Johnny Depp, and even Larry David have been mentioned for the role, but the latest name is Dane Cook, who told MTV that he'd be interested in playing the role.
"If they brought back The Riddler — a new Riddler the way they did with The Joker — that would be badass. I would do that."
"When they were making the new one and they were doing The Joker, I always thought it [should be] kind of like The Crow — having that dark element but still comedic. It would probably have to be something in that vein, even though I think what Heath Ledger did with the Joker was the greatest comic book villain ever."
Would Dane Cook be a good choice to play The Riddler?

You could officially count me out of any Batman movie with Dane Cook in any role other than 'inconsequential non-speaking street pedestrian.'
Posted By: Guest#0166 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:01 PM
Larry David?! Now that's a good idea!
Posted By: Jeff Green (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:02 PM
ummmmm...there is just one little difference between you and Heath: He was an actor, not a shitty comedian!
Posted By: D-Steak (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:02 PM
absolutley not!
Posted By: FEAR (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:03 PM
if he was crazy/goofy like he was in Mr. Brooks thaen i think he could pull it off... acting lessons wouldnt hurt as well
Posted By: JWS (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:04 PM
As horrible as that movie is, I always that Jim Carrey was really good for that role. Dane Cook? Not really sure.
Posted By: puffykilled2pac (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:04 PM
He's not the best choice, but he can pull off a serious role, just check out what he did in Mr. Brooks
Posted By: Kurruption (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:05 PM
You stay away from Batman, Cook you overrated fuck :(
Posted By: Guest#4710 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:05 PM
More bullshit rumors.
So let's start saying the craziest thing's we can to make-up even more shit. I heard Christopher Walken is going to play Robin and Bill O'Reilly will be the Penguin.
Posted By: Guest#0434 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:05 PM
Please don't let him do it. I've seen his work and its not that good, or funny.
Posted By: Dane Cook's Mom (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:05 PM
It is out of the box, which the Nolans like. But, would they go with Dane Cook? Hell no.
Posted By: Mike (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:05 PM
Jesus Christ...NO!
Posted By: Nick (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:06 PM
YES! He would be great...Either him or Johnny Depp
Posted By: Ryan (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:06 PM
F*** YOU DANE COOK!
Don't ruin what should be a potentially awesome movie. Your jokes aren't funny. You are extremely overated and your fanbase is based on teenage girls and emo kids. No one likes you.
Posted By: Guest#8551 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:07 PM
NO aweful idea
Posted By: RareStorm (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:07 PM
Yeah Dane, YOU are interested. I'm sure Nolan wouldn't even want you to even serve the catering.
Posted By: Guest#2409 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:07 PM
yea, i think he could pull it off
Posted By: jeff (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:08 PM
I love Batman too much to see it get tarnished by Dane Cook. It'd be kind of funny, but that's it
Posted By: Jcon (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:13 PM
Too bad Dane Cook's not funny...
Posted By: G (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:14 PM

they should get sheldon from the big bang theory
Posted By: puba516 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:14 PM
No. Dane Cook is a terrible choice for every movie he's been in. Who casts this crap?
Posted By: DANE COOK SUCKS (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:14 PM
I would kill myself if Dane Cook came anywhere near that franchise.
Posted By: Jeff (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:16 PM
If he dies a few months before the release he'll be loved by all no matter how bad he sucks. I say go for it.
Posted By: Foolio (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:19 PM
You guys just want the boards to explode with negativity after asking that don't you? The answer is no! lol
Posted By: P.Tew (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:19 PM
I'm sure Christopher Nolan probably has seen enough of Cook's stuff to realize that casting him would be committing professional suicide.
Name a successful Dane Cook film? Now, name an intelligent person other than yourself who thinks Cook is genuinely funny.
Posted By: Guest#2510 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:21 PM
I'm pulling for Johnny Depp to get the job. He just seems like he would bring the A game to the character.
Posted By: chewb (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:22 PM
"Would Dane Cook be a good choice to play The Riddler? "
No.

Posted By: ..... (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:27 PM
I'd like to see him tackle some other serious roles first before I get on the Dane Cook/Riddle band waggon. Right now, I think him as Riddler might be a bad idea

Not going anywhere near a batman movie with Dane Cooks name on it. Well, unless Batman gets to drop him offa building without catching him on the way down. Oh, and with a close up as he hits the pavement.
Posted By: Jerry (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:46 PM
whether you like it or not, if they did this, the movie would probably the highest grossing movie of all time. Whether you like it or not guys, Dane Cook would put butts in the seats
Posted By: Guest#0228 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:50 PM
Whether or not you liked the actual movie, Jim Carrey owned the Riddler role. No one's gonna touch that.
Posted By: Guest#0222 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:51 PM
Dane Cook would be a great choice to play an unfunny comedian who can't act.
Posted By: Guest (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:51 PM
I still say Paul Reubens as Riddler. Put the Pee Wee shit aside, he's not a half bad actor.
Posted By: Ace Jones (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:52 PM
It would be impossible to look forward to a movie that starred Dane Cook.
Posted By: Guest#1048 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:53 PM
If The Ridder were to be in the next Batman movie, I would LOVE to see Crispin Glover as the Riddler, I think he would be absolutely perfect in that role.
Larry David would be an odd choice, but I would be interested to see how that works.
Posted By: JCMoney (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:54 PM
Yeah, I want a lot of things too.
Posted By: Guest#1283 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:57 PM
Let all the internet haters cry.

Dane wants a blockbuster paycheck/movie role

Posted By: D-Steak (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:02 PM
And this. Thanks guys, couldn't have put it any better myself. Honestly, no Dane Cook as Riddler, no Megan Fox as Cat Woman!!!! Any of those happen, I'll probably skip the next movie.
Posted By: Guest#1441 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:00 PM
Hell No!
Dane Cook sucks, he barely registers as funny, so even at his chosen profession he fails.
Posted By: baker (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:00 PM
Hey, let's get someone even less funny than Jim Carey to play the Riddler. That's a great idea.
Posted By: Dr. Jones (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:02 PM
They shouldn't let Dane Cook play cards, much less be in a movie that's expected to be successful. Go on another frat house tour, Dane, and leave the acting to more talented comedians.
Larry David would kill as The Ventriloquist.
Posted By: Trueindeed (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:07 PM
i wonder if he would yell all of his lines and jump around like a maniac like his comedy acts
Posted By: Guest#4337 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:07 PM
I know this will go against all of you snarky sheep that profess every anti-[insert here] attitude currently popular on the interwebs, but I would much rather prefer Dane Cook over Larry David for the Riddler.
That said, I wouldn't really want Cook to be the Riddler either.
Posted By: Guest#7889 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:10 PM
Larry David?! Now that's a good idea!
Posted By: Jeff Green (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:02 PM
Forget The Riddler, just have Batman face off against Larry David. Batman and Larry stare each other down while Leon tells Larry how to take down the bat!!! I would so pay to see that!
Posted By: D (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:10 PM
you know, he is a bad comedian, but most every serious role he's done has been great.
Lemme guess. Johnny Depp would be a MUCH better Riddler than Dane Cook. LOL
Posted By: Guest#4184 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:10 PM
dane cook is a giant douche. please god keep him away from this great franchise.
Posted By: Ric Switzer (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:12 PM
Can't he just stick to messing up his own movies?
Posted By: T-Mac (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:13 PM
I would be pretty damn interested in what Eddie Murphy would do in that role..seriously...
Posted By: Industry (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:18 PM
As long as he doesn't steal Jim Carrey's jokes from the last movie.
Posted By: That Guy (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:19 PM
Larry David would be awesome
Posted By: This Guy! (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:22 PM
After Years of garbage, we FINALLY get good Batman movies, and now DANE COOK wants to be a part of them?. NO FUCKING WAY. Stick with shitty romantic comedies, and shitty stand up. STAY the FUCK OUT OF these Movies!
Posted By: educated savage (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:25 PM
Oh god damn it. Listen, make The Riddler an anal retentive, OCD case. His suit and bowler would have to be perfect all the time. And of course give him OCD routines. His character is all about overly complicated games. Johnny Depp would be perfect. But unlike the Joker, do NOT show him in the first 5 minutes. It worked for The Joker but the Riddler needs to be more behind the scenes. I know it's Johnny Depp and the studio would NEVER want to hide him in anyway but for this role it may be necessary. Oh and keep Cook the hell away from this please. Thanks that'd be great.
Posted By: the dude (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:26 PM
Larry David? Where has that rumour come from?
However stupid it may sound i'd love to see Larry David as the riddler.
Posted By: drauk (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:28 PM
Dane Cook sucks. He should just keep his dayjob of stealing material from real comedians.
Posted By: Patrick Mullin (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:31 PM
Dane Cook was quite charming in several different movies. I believe he can act very well and would like to see what he would do with but I'm not certain he's a good fit for it. I'd actually LOVe to see Chris O'Donnell do the Riddler.
Posted By: tomnationwide (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:33 PM
Dane Cook would be a terrible choice. He's got charisma and he knows how to market himself brilliantly, but he has no acting or comedic talent whatsoever.
Posted By: Gog (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:37 PM
Well Dane Cook would be a good heel in that I find him annoying. So if and when he gets it in the movie, I will be happy.
However, I've never seen comic ability in Dane Cook. People do laugh at his "observations", so not everybody agrees with me on this.
Comedic acting, darkly comedic, naturally funny, these are all qualities I've never seen in Dane Cook. I've actually watched parts of his performances on YouTube to try and figure out why people found him funny and have had no luck.
Eddie Murphy would have to reign in his over the top mugging, but I could see it if he is willing to stretch himself. Johnny Depp would get the women watching, at least. He might be able to pull it off, though I've never seen him do comedic performances. Not the right type for the part, anyways. I'm most intrigued by the idea of Larry David. Could be a tremendous failure, could be unbelievably great. I'd like him writing the part with somebody who knows the Batman setting.
Posted By: Guest#6231 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:42 PM
Dane Cook is not only a terrible comic, but a worse actor, this would be a terrible choice, as huge a fan of Larry David that I am, I dont think he'd be a good choice, but it'd be more interesting than that hack Cook
Posted By: ScottieD (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:50 PM
I'd like him to play a dead guy in life.
Posted By: Diavo (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:55 PM
Dear Dane Cook,
Please do not ruin any of my favourite film franchises. In fact as I don't find you even remotely funny, please stop making movies period.
Thanks in advance.

I'm not his biggest fan, but he does have the manic energy to play The Riddler.
Posted By: The Great Capt. Smooth (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 07:57 PM
It's funny. People were bashing the choice Ledger as Joker too.. until he died, and got pimped to high even.
That said, while Ledger did a greta job, he wasn't even the best part of the movie. L0LZ
Posted By: Volourn (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 08:01 PM
I guess "The Dark Knight" ended on such a note that there's a little more movie there, but I hereby beg and plead to whoever it may concern: NO MORE COMIC BOOK VILLAINS. The new, Christopher Nolan-driven Bat-franchise has already used about two comic baddies more than really work in the live-action cinematic medium, and I'd hate to see that number pushed up any more than it already is.

Like all those other movies he's been in? The other names have a decent track record, Dane's movies don't. So why would anybody think Dane could "put butts in seats"?
"I know this will go against all of you snarky sheep that profess every anti-[insert here] attitude currently popular on the interwebs, but I would much rather prefer Dane Cook over Larry David for the Riddler.

Dane Cook is unliked by many who don't frequent internet boards. He has been disliked from the beginning by many. So it is pretty reasonable to think that it became a trend because of his lack of talent rather than people just going with a trend for no reason.
Posted By: Guest#5706 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 08:35 PM
You keep your filthy, joke-stealing, untalented ass away from my beloved Batman, Mr. Cook.

Motion seconded! Whoever mentioned Sheldon from Big Bang Theory, that would also be cool but he might not be old enough.

I think Sean Penn would be a great Riddler.
Posted By: SA (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 09:46 PM
Dane Cook? They're kidding right?! If he is cast, and I think I speak for the vast majority here, I will NOT pay to see this movie. Period.
Posted By: Guest#81 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 09:53 PM
I actually like Dane Cook as a comedian but I can't imagine him as The Riddler.
Posted By: Phil (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 09:55 PM
No, Dane Cook should never be in a Batman movie unless he has one line and dies quick.
Posted By: Guest#5497 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 09:55 PM
NPH for Riddler? OMFG Book It! Book it now!!!!!!! So in summary, yes I think NPH would make for a great Riddler and more than adequate addition to the cast.
Posted By: Johnny Israel (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 09:59 PM
young robin williams could pull it off. not dane cook though. when has dane cook ever played someone kooky and zany but still had an aura of intelligence about him?
Posted By: Guest#8436 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 10:06 PM
No. Something ridiculous.
Like Dana White.
Posted By: SNM (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 10:07 PM
I'd actually like to see Ryan Reynolds do it. I think he'd make a perfect Riddler, he has the right range to be able to pull the role off and he can definitely be smarmy, intelligent but arrogant and overconfident jackass. Either him or that guy from Scrubs would work perfectly.
Posted By: Guest#7804 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 10:24 PM
Not Johnny depp. I made a vow to never watch a depp movie again. I have never seen a pirates movie and will not watch batman if he is in it. He sucks but what do you expect he left the united states and moved to France.
Posted By: Russell (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 10:27 PM
Dane Cook is awful. He's not funny, can't act, rips off other comedians' jokes and has an overblown ego. Make him The Riddler and you might as well bring back Joel Schumacher as the director.
Posted By: Todd Parker (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 10:28 PM
Absolutely not. This man would destroy The Riddler. David Tennant for The Riddler
Posted By: Absolutus (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 10:33 PM
I would play the Riddler too... is that news?
Riddle me this... riddle me that... who's afraid of an acting class.

I think he could pull it off...
Posted By: Guest#0661 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 11:03 PM
I guess this is just to stir up issues, but Dane Cook, the top selling comedian of the last few years, the guy that the majority of the US between ages 15 and 30 would claim to be the funniest comedian on the circuit, isn't funny. A guy that makes millions off of comedy isn't funny? Really?
Posted By: Jeff (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 11:10 PM
Michael Emmerson dammit. He NEEDS to be Riddler
Posted By: Guest#3943 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 11:13 PM
Crispin Glover. End of discussion.
Posted By: MBD (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 11:18 PM

Posted By: Guest#0222 (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 06:51 PM
People said the same thing about Jack Nicholson playing the Joker. People were also surprised that Heath Ledger got picked.
A surprising pick for a role that was once played by a far more iconic and well known actor worked once...
Posted By: Jamie (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 11:20 PM
Sure he'd be a great fit....if they want to destroy this new Batman franchise they've created. I actually wouldn't doubt if the studio did so in like another 15 years they can do Batman Re-begins.
Posted By: Butters4Prez (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 11:23 PM
Who do you think you are Dane? All your movies sucked just like your lousy ass stand up career. Where the fuck did you come from in the first place?
Posted By: hahahaha (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 11:23 PM
Even as a fan, I have to say no to this. Hell no, Dane. You're better suited as support. Depp would be ideal unless Carrey's interested again.

Michael C. Hall for the Riddler.

He would rule! He can't do any worse then the White House and Congress are doing now!
Dane Cook!

Jonah Hill for the Penguin while we're at it... Maybe somebody a little douchier, like Jack Black... Or maybe we can just kill the franchise all together, and get Shia Ledouche to play Robin, that should just about make sure nobody touches the franchise again
