Posted by Ashish on 11.20.2009
Check out the top 10!
Will Ferrell came in at #1 on the annual Forbes list of Hollywood's most overpaid actors. According to Forbes, for every dollar Ferrell was paid, his films earned $3.29, the lowest among Hollywood's 100 biggest stars.
Here's the top 10...
1. Will Ferrell ($3.29)
2. Ewan McGregor ($3.75)
3. Billy Bob Thornton ($4.00)
4. Eddie Murphy ($4.43)
5. Ice Cube ($4.77)
6. Tom Cruise ($7.18)
7. Drew Barrymore ($7.43)
8. Leonardo DiCaprio ($7.52)
9. Samuel L. Jackson ($8.59)
10. Jim Carrey ($8.62)
I honestly can't believe Eddie Murphy didn't top this list. I can't remember the last time he was in a movie that wasn't a complete flop.

Reese witherspoon should be on there. her acting is pretty average.

Step Brothers was the funniest movie in 2008, hands down. Studios just need to stop putting Will in anything without an R-rating.

I wish I could pay Jim Carrey $10M, as I would love to get $86.2M back

Other than Land of the Lost most of Ferrerl's movies are cheap to make. Most studios see a 3:1 return as a good one (seeing they pay everyone else shit).
Posted By: Obrie007 (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 12:18 AM
That list is bullshit. Forbes should make a list of least relevant magazines with it being # 1.
Posted By: Guest#7142 (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 12:21 AM
Holy shit. Fucking ICE CUBE puts more asses in the seats than Will Ferrell?!
Posted By: Zingy (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 12:28 AM
Maybe that's the case cause most of Will Ferrell's recent movies have been either terrible or not publicized enough (Land of the Lost, Walk Hard & Semi-Pro)
Posted By: Ryan Haseldine (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 12:32 AM
I meant Step Brothers not Walk Hard

Not shocked to see any of these people's name on the list because I didn't watch not one of their movies.
Posted By: Guest#6839 (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 01:08 AM
Overpaid and overrated

YOU CAN'T PUT A PRICE ON HILARIOUS COMEDY! Will Ferrell is the most consistently funny man in Hollywood. Eat THAT shit Forbes, and then wipe up your tears with you BILLIONS AND BILLIONS of dollars, you nerds! Ha!

I'll pretty much see any movie Will Ferrell is in. Doesen't sound like a bad deal, pay Will 50, make 100 million yourself, and that doesen't include DVD sales which are always high.
Posted By: LoveIt (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 01:27 AM
9. Samuel L. Jackson ($8.59)
well for the sheer amount of movies he's in i'd say thats pretty good.
Posted By: Guest#2084 (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 01:31 AM
This list is bullshit.Any list that has Leo,Cruise,Carrey and Ferrell on it as over payed is a joke. All four of these men are great actors and in Ferrell case one of the funniest people in the world
Posted By: JohnnyPresley21 (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 01:45 AM
Hey, you don't say that...
Posted By: Guest#5687 (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 02:05 AM
Isn't that a good thing? Fuck that, toast to everyone on this list, except Tom cruise. No offense to gay people, I just don't like that guy. And not to get racial or anything, but who said my black people were lazy? Eddie Murphy, Ice Cube, Samuel L. Jackson (it's my beer!) Hahahahaha
Posted By: amusing comments (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 02:11 AM
Damn, on the opposite end of the spectrum Shia LeBeouf makes the studio $160 for every $1 spent on him.

lol

I'm not surprised to see Ferrell at the top of such a list, but I am suprised that he topped a list calculated in such a manner.
I guess studios must make the real money on DVD sales?

I couldn't agree more with #1

Slow week at Forbes.

Dear Hollywood,
Got a new idea on an old classic film. Take this list and form the new remake of......Cannonball Run. Yes!!!
Posted By: Burt Reynolds (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 07:08 AM
Maybe these actors should only get paid a cut of the box office ,then they might start making films that arent crap. Or if the box office take doesnt go over the production cost, they should have to pay some of that back.

I honestly can't believe Eddie Murphy didn't top this list. I can't remember the last time he was in a movie that wasn't a complete flop.

I agree. Wasn't it Dreamgirls some years ago?

"I honestly can't believe Eddie Murphy didn't top this list. I can't remember the last time he was in a movie that wasn't a complete flop."
Dreamgirls, but that doesn't count because he only played one character I guess

Deathpool.. If they consider the Shrek movies to be Murphy Movies then he's safe..
And you gotta be kidding me with Leo.. Titanic earned a gagillion dollars
Is this from just one year or all time?!?!
Posted By: locke (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 07:59 AM
You have to understand will ferrel to appreciate his films which I fucking love everyone of them.
Posted By: chewb (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 08:09 AM
Deathpool, Shrek saves Eddie from looking like a complete joke on a list like this.
Posted By: Leo (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 08:23 AM
Samuel L Jackson shouldn't even be on this list.
I agree that Eddie Murphy should top this list I don't think he's been in a good movie in a loooonnnngggg time.
Posted By: Captain_America (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 08:24 AM
Its because Eddie doesnt get paid a quarter of what Will gets to be in movies.
Posted By: Jason (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 09:31 AM
Dream Girls.
Posted By: Ant-LOX (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 10:03 AM
so all this list does is show how UNDERPAID all of these people are? Even Will Ferrell - a 3/1 return on ANYTHING is amazing, regardless of acting ability or lack thereof.
Posted By: Guest#3721 (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 10:41 AM
duh, they should just pay him more then.
Posted By: Aesop (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 10:49 AM
I wish I could pay Jim Carrey $10M, as I would love to get $86.2M back
Posted By: Guest#6741 (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 12:13 AM
WORD!! how can you be considered overpaid if your movies are making people "rich biyatch!!"...you can't expect every movie to break the 100M mark but damn, a profit is a profit regardless of if it comes from movie tickets or dvd sales...
Posted By: MadLiberator (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 11:08 AM
TOM CRUISE are you fucking serious. His movies have earned over $2 billion. These guys are idiots.
Posted By: ruserious (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 11:08 AM
DiCaprio should have been ranked higher. After Titanic, Leo always plays a pissed-off person.
Posted By: Chris (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 11:38 AM
If I make 1 movie and I get paid $20 for doing it and then 40 people go see it, I'd look like I was doing great.
This list is a total joke.
Posted By: Dmob (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 12:18 PM
Yeah, because I put a lot of stock into what Forbes Magazine, a magazine that specializes in boring readers to tears, has to say about entertainment.
Posted By: John (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 01:33 PM
Some of you guys don't really seem to understand the list. It is a ratio of what the actor is payed compared to what the movie makes. The budget of the movie isn't factored into this. For example Will Farrell made twenty million dollars for Land of the Lost, and it made around fifty million dollars, which would give a ratio of 1:2.5. However, Land of the Lost had a budget of a hundred million dollars, meaning that it lost a whole lot of money.
Posted By: Scott M (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 02:18 PM
Yeah you guys are right, I forgot about Shrek, I guess out of sight out of mind.
Posted By: Deathpool (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 05:54 PM
Damn, on the opposite end of the spectrum Shia LeBeouf makes the studio $160 for every $1 spent on him.
Posted By: King Tony (Guest)
So if he makes 5 million per movie every movie he's gonna do will make 800 million??
Posted By: Guest#0445 (Guest) on November 21, 2009 at 05:21 AM
I dont know why it is, but Will Ferrell in a supporting role[old school, Starsky and Hutch and Zoolander ]is better than Will ferrell in his own movie. Elf, land of the Lost, and that other dumb shit movie about the book. I have wasted more money on buying Will ferrell movies than Eddie murphy movies. The trick is to cut Eddie murphy off after beverly hills cop 2
Posted By: jeff albertson (Guest) on November 21, 2009 at 05:53 PM
Ice Cube? Yeah I dont think he has made a good movie since the first Friday. Drew Berrymore was only good in ET. Tom Cruise? No comment. Ewan McGregor...who is he? Will Ferrell makes box office gold. Land of the Lost and Kicking and Screaming has been the only "duds" on his resume...Step Brothers, Anchorman, Old School, all classics and are still watched and quoted all the time. This list is not right at all. And I agree Eddie Murphy should be Number 1 hands down...I cant remember a movie he has done in 10 yrs that was worth watching twice...
