[Movies] New Moon Breaks Single Day Box Office Record!
Posted by Ashish on 11.21.2009
The Dark Knight record falls to New Moon...
Believe it or not, The Twilight Saga: New Moonset a box office record for biggest single day gross, pulling in $72.7 million on Friday. The previous record was $67.2 million set by The Dark Knight. New Moon has already set the record for midnight openings with $26.27 million.
The next target for New Moon is the 3-day record of $158 million currently held by The Dark Knight....

Unbelievable. For a minute I thought it was sunday and that was the weekend estimate! I doubt it will break the 3 record of the dark knight though. This will be a top heavy movie with the mojority of the money coming from this weekend.

This movie and bookseries is about a pedophile. Think about it, the lead character is supposed to hundreds of years old and hes going after a high school girl.

Are they using the amount that Dark Knight made when it came out ,or did they change it to reflect todays movie ticket prices? I know that the theaters in my area has raised prices since Dark Knight came out.

I have no more faith in the human species...
I swear to Almighty God himself, that if New Moon breaks the 3-day record, I will not stop until I destroy the Earth, and every bloodsucking Twilight fan there is dies a gruesome, bloody, agonizing death.
Posted By: Guest#3905 (Guest) on November 21, 2009 at 07:22 PM
I watch The Dark Knight weekly - I don't understand the weird attachment to box office records. Records come and go.
Plus, I don't see an Dark Knight money.
If anything, batman is more silly than the twilight movies. A guy running around in a rubber suit fighting a guy in facepaint.
Posted By: Ant-LOX (Guest) on November 21, 2009 at 07:25 PM
I thought the movie was pretty good.
Posted By: Butters (Guest) on November 21, 2009 at 07:25 PM
It's like Titanic all over again. Except without great acting, special effects, and scriptwriting. Yet the women will flock constantly to this piece of emo vampire garbage. Real Vampires have fangs, they don't shimmer in the sun.

Posted By: Iceberg (Guest) on November 21, 2009 at 08:06 PM
The only fucking Saga there is is Star Wars. I'm tired about of hearing about this sparkly, pedophilia-driven vampire and his werewolf buddy.
Posted By: JesusHat (Guest) on November 21, 2009 at 08:09 PM
The worst thing is this is going to be like Dark Knight, in that the same people who probably saw it 2-3 times this weekend will see it 2-3 times NEXT weekend, as well. I didn't think it'd break this many records but... fuck. That just makes me a sad panda.
Good for them, I guess. What recession?

..it's a good thing that Kristen Stewart and R. Pattz HATE their fandom.
....this is still absolutely ridiculous.
Posted By: VampsDontSparkle (Guest) on November 21, 2009 at 08:26 PM
That's because teen girls, 40-year old women and the guys they drag along are idiots that absolutely want to see the movie opening day. I don't see it having the longevity that The Dark Knight had.
Posted By: Diavo (Guest) on November 21, 2009 at 08:27 PM
Who cares. Nobody hardly cares about movies anymore. I'm going back to playing Uncharted 2 thank you.

Posted By: Erik (Guest) on November 21, 2009 at 09:27 PM
So I guess this solidifies the fact that if you give a sequel an entirely new name instead of "part 2" it will break the records of its predecessor

a friend of mine put it best.

You see, this is what I intellectually like about Miley Cyrus (the ONLY way I like her; see the comments on AJ's posting of her concert photos for my explanation) -- She's smart enough to know that Twilight is crap. (Though not smart enough to know that no one on Earth believes she listens to Jay-Z. I mean, seriously.)
But ... this stuff is not gonna have any lasting effect, like Harry Potter (IMO) will, on the public consciousness. This is the Monkees to JK's (literary) Beatles. (Of course, apples to oranges, seeing as these are squarely aimed at teenaged girls whereas HP worked its way up the age groups, but book-wise, Order of the Phoenix versus Twilight is both fair and a rout._

Does anyone actually give a shit? The book is popular, so Hollywood will be milking it and making other movies based on it.You all are just pissed cause it goes away from the stereotypical "blood sucking vampire" movies/books. This is an idea that apparently works and works well so all your cries will do absolutely nothing. And for some of you, the same exact guy that plays the vampire in Twilight, played Cedric Diggory in harry Potter movies

1 billion dollars. That's the Dark Knights WORLDWIDE GROSS.
Jesus, jerk off to that number if it makes you happy, geeks.. the tweenie vampires won't break that. Deal with it.
Posted By: Jeff (Guest) on November 22, 2009 at 02:22 AM
I agree with people that The Dark Knight is a better movie but calm the fuck down...this movie had a bigger opening than expected but good for the studio and everyone involved.
Will it beat Titanic or The Dark Knight? I doubt it...but stop whining. Those of you saying its the end of the world are worse than the people who went and saw it.

Posted By: Kimbo (Guest) on November 22, 2009 at 04:47 AM
I agree with the discord about this series, because I enjoy vampire-based entertainment, and Twilight is not only a crappy series (in both movie and novel forms) but ruining the whole enjoying vampires thing for us non-rabid fans of the myth. But alas, what did we expect would happen when a crappy story is made into a crappy movie starring a bunch of *apparently* attractive young 'actors' and marketed it towards impressionable young girls?
Posted By: Faythe (Guest) on November 22, 2009 at 05:11 AM
It won't touch the weekend. Reports say that the film did 72.7M on Friday and 43M on Saturday. That means it still needs close to 43M on Sun to tie.
Posted By: COTD (Guest) on November 22, 2009 at 07:48 AM
I'm such a huge fan. I can't wait until the next movie. It will do even bigger than Titanic money!

The funniest thing is with the noob's who complain on this site don't realize that each year ticket prices go up. Spider-man 2 sold less than batman during the opening but MORE PEOPLE went to see SM2 than the Dark Knight. Now this movie beats dark knight...so what! 3 years from now it'll be broken again. Inflation and population growth people!
Posted By: All Me (Guest) on November 22, 2009 at 09:34 AM
Remember that episode of South Park, where Cartman sees something so monumentally, fundamentally, devastatingly hilarious, that he blows a fuse, and cannot laugh, ever again.
This is, quite possibly, the funniest thing I've ever read. Yet I cannot laugh about it. It's so funny.
I mean, I loved TDK and I really dislike Twilight. But seriously... this is utterly hilarious.

I wanted to poke my eyes out with a stick.. Then i was asked by my partner to see this one. I fiugred nothing could have been as bad as the montsrocity that was the first but i was wrong this movie was freaking awfull x 3. You all are just pissed cause Twilight is different from your stereotypical "vampire sucks blood and kills people to survive" idea. And also, if you guys hate the movie so much, then why do you even bother to comment here?
And for some of you out there, the same guy that plays they main vampire in Twilight, also played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter

I can believe it. Speaking as someone who was dragged there by three female friends (all in one viewing I was not going three seperate times), the theather was packed. When we had to change seats because a group had reserved the whole row, I thought there would be a chance for it to top dark knight.
And yes the movie sucked, first clue all three trailers were chick flicks, I knew I was in trouble right then and there.
And I never want to hear a women complain that I only like a movie cause a hot chick is in it. The only reason u liked that POS was cause of some shirtless guy with a mullet, Billy Ray Cyrus would be proud
