[Movies] Spider-Man 4 Likely To Be Pushed Back
Posted by Ashish on 01.06.2010

Deadline Hollywood and Variety both report that Spider-Man 4 is now in development hell, with director Sam Raimi thinking that the movie may miss its May 11th, 2011 release date.

The problem here is that Raimi apparently is not happy with the script that has run through screenwriters Jamie Vanderbilt, David Lindsay-Abaire, and Gary Ross. Another draft of the script is now in the works, being written by screenwriter Alvin Sargent who wrote Spider-Man 2 & 3.

May 11th, 2011 now seems unlikely as a release date, with Sony hoping to possibly have it out by July 2011.

In a related note, the report also claims that Raimi does want John Malkovich to play the villain, possibly the Vulture, while Anne Hathaway is likely not going to play Black Cat or a female Vulture.

There is also some talk now that with the massive success of Avatar, Sony may want Spider-Man 4 in 3-D, which would add to the reasons for the delay.

Spiderman as an franchise is dead. Spiderman 3 was so awful I cant see spiderman 4 doing huge numbers.

Spiderman 4 is destined to become the XMEN Origins Wolverine of 2011.

Wolverine made a decent profit in theaters, made a bunch of crossover money, sold a ton of toys, and then did amazing on video- topping the charts and selling 3 million DVD's in its first week.

...you were saying?

Or were you trying to say Spiderman 4 would bomb? If that's the case, then you should try comparing it to a movie that did poorly and not one that you simply didn't like, but did well.

Gotta agree that this is a dead franchise, the first Spiderman was okay and the second was alright, but it's over now.

Besides Stan Lee is so old now he just doesn't care anymore.

Kids like Wolverine for some reason. He's not the cool Logan Wolverine I read when I was in my teens. Back when he was Logan, not some guy named James. I hated hearing him called James. I'm surprised he EIC didn't name him 'Joe' after himself. We really didn't need an origin where he's just some guy.

As for Spider-man, yeah the Marvel Editor IN Chief REALLY ruined that character. After while you realize you're not reading stories , you're reading ideas they put up on the board. "O.K. This month everyone finds out Peter Parker is Spider-man, next month.... uh, we forget that and do more delayed crossovers.

They didn't even try to do an unmasking story. It's just them lying to the readers. Now they're lying three times a month.

Don't really care about the movies after they ruined the book.

message to sam raimi. forget spider-man4 and proceed with the warcraft movie.

Now I hated Spider-Man 3 as much as the next person, in fact I started hating on Spider-Man 2 once I saw it a second time, but to suggest the franchise is dead is just silly.

Spider-Man 4 could be a absolute rubbish and it'll still make a killing at the box office, especially if all the main cast and director are back.

I'm tired of big budget forgettable movies based on comics. We need more movies based on solid sci-fi books. Something with special effect - but also with food for thought, not the brainless superhero action for kids.

Raimi has made several comments about how disappointed he was about spiderman 3....Sony and the writers had a real hard on to introduce 400 new villains in one movie. It sounds to me like he is trying to regain creative control and save the movie franchise. I say give him another shot.....everyone was calling Sam the hero of modern superhero movies until he made a bad flick and now all the fanboys trash him. I mean Christ.....its not like were talking about Michael Bay here.

A Dead franchise? LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO

No matter how bad you think Spider Man 3 was to say something like the franchise is dead is beyond insane. Maybe part 4 wont make as much money as 3, but it will still do huge business no matter when it comes out or who the villain is.

No 3-D!! Use Kraven and make it darker. This reminds me of what killed the batman francise in the 90's. Malkovich is perfect for the Vulture, but quit using big name actors in every role...

And aside from a cameo, Stan Lee has what exactly to do with the Spider-Man movies? maybe a producer credit?

God enough with this 3-D crap...Yeah I want to have to wear some dumb ass glasses for 3 hours while watching a movie, better yet I want to sit at home on my nice 3-D TV and wear these same silly things in my own home!! WOOT....no thanks - please go away.

welcome to the decade of 3D...

along with a rapid retardation of creativity.

This is what happens when you put more than 1 villan in a movie..They blew it by using 3 in tha last one. You have to move on to less interesting charachters...

They need to get rid of Dunst, she was good in the first one but she really dragged down the third one. Mguire is still good for the lead and that's actually more important anyway. They also need to either take some focus off of the relationship between MJ and Petey or actually do a good job on it like in the comics, instead they tried to make it some soap opera thing that appeals only to the female audience rather than being well written or true to the comics. It's also nonsensical, neither character behaves like they do in the comics, and it's not like in the comics it was always rosy or anything.

As much as I like Spidey, Hollywood absolutely has no idea what to do with it. Does Marvel even make the Spidey films or does FOX still have the license? Marvel usually does well for its own films. Disney should be able to back the Spidey film in terms of budget anyway.

3D will become stale by the time its out. 3D is a fad just like it was 25 years ago.

Posted By: Guest#0127 (Guest)  on January 06, 2010 at 12:14 PM

Spiderman did 700 million. 2 did 800 and 3 did 900. Do you honestly think Spidey 4 will even hit 500?

Thats why they are using the gimmick of 3D.

Anne Hathaway as the Black Cat? Shame it won't happen, because I'd pay much money to see her in that costume!

A lot of people would argue that X-Men Origins was the Spider-Man 3 of 2009.

This is one reboot that I would support. New director and lead actor please.

Forget the Vulture and the Black Cat...

Let's see Spiderman Take on Donald Duck and team up with Minnie Mouse!!! And have a Mickey Mouse Cameo!

This movie would rock.

"O.K. This month everyone finds out Peter Parker is Spider-man, next month.... uh, we forget that and do more delayed crossovers."

Oh, so you don't even read Spider-Man books anymore. No one has known Peter Parker is Spidey for two years. The Spider-Man books were ruined LONG before One More Day. The Other, Spider-Totem, Gwen Stacey's kids were all TERRIBLE storylines. Everything after Brand New Day has been great.

Hasn't Raimi ruined enough movies? Stay the hell away from Warcraft. Only Blizzard should make that movie and it will release in the year 2025.
