[Movies] Malkovich In For Spider-Man 4 Posted by Chris Lansdell on 01.10.2010
Confirms he is waiting for the script...
Some Spider-Man 4 news has come down the pipes as John Malkovich has confirmed that he is waiting for the final script to be sent to him. He also confirmed that the movie has been delayed.
Malkovich was rumored to be up for the role of The Vulture a month ago, and in an interview with an Italian sports show (full transcript available here...in Italian), he didn't deny his involvement. Here is a translated excerpt from the article...
"When conductor Simona Ventura asked him about his role of Vulture in the movie, he not only didn't deny his involvement, but confirmed that he's waiting for the final script to be sent to him, and that the movie has been delayed. He also hopes that shooting will begin as soon as possible."
Malkovich was an alternate to Willem Dafoe for the Green Goblin role in the first movie, so it's not hard to see him being chosen for this role. The doubt comes from the fact that The Vulture is a much smaller villain in Spider-Man lore than the others that have been used, and Sony may not want to let him be the chief bad guy.
Vulture, Lizard and Kraven sound good. Too bad 3 ruined the franchise.

Yeah because the last movie worked so well when the studio got what they wanted.
Let Raimi use The Vulture if he wants. I'm sure he'll come up with a good story to make him a suitable foe.

The Vulture sucks. Why would they put him in a Spider-man movie? He can fly and has razor sharp wings. Yay.
I guess it can't be any worse than Spider-man 3.

Seriously, he's like the worst villain ever. My special power is I'm old and can fly.

... And this is why superhero movie franchises always suck, no matter how good the individual movies might be at first. At some point, they become all about cramming villains from the comics into the story, even if they'll make for crappy big-screen characters. The Spider-Man comics have a ton of great villains, and the Vulture is one of them, but the majority of them just aren't great ENOUGH to be the main antagonist of a feature film.

Malkovich is awesome, but The Vulture? C'mon, how about the Lizard or even Carnage?

Doc Ock was a cheesy villain that they turned into a really cool and likable character...I used to hate Doc Ock..after Spidey 2...LOVED HIM!!!...Can't wait to see what they do with the Vulture...yeah,older-fly w/razor sharp wings...but it is Malkovich,so the Vulture will be really smart(Brainy bad guy)...and just like Goblin...the Vulture suite will prob be Hi-Tech.I'm open minded about it....
