Yes!

I don't care what movie did it, as long as Titanic was beaten.

In before random bitching about inflation...

Supreme victory!

But with inflation The Dark Knight is at 533.4 million......wait what?

Posted By: Yup (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 04:12 PM

And cue the nerds that think they are unique because they hate Avatar.

Posted By: Guest#2889 (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 04:33 PM

Congrats to Avatar, a movie that deserves it in my opinion. Truly a great experience.

Posted By: Dan (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 04:46 PM

I may be wrong, don't bash me, but I really think they should take in consideration that back when the Titanic was in theaters, movie tickets were only like $3.75 versus today I can't get a movie cheaper than $9.50 unless you are a student or military. That's nearly 3x the cost of tickets. I still think Titanic would be in the lead if ticket prices were matched.

And as for Avatar, graphics were amazing, it just wasn't my type of movie, no bashing here

*thumbs up*

I always hear James Cameron is an asshole, but at this point I'd pretty much be okay with him telling the entire world to suck his dick.

Avatar rules all

Told ya it would beat Titanic. And it's still going...can't wait to see what kind of $$ it makes on DVD.

Posted By: Guest#9427 (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 05:29 PM

And it's still going...it may even hit $700mil and as high as $2.2bil worldwide. This thing is a machine.

Dear Avatar,

you're welcome

Posted By: Inflation (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 06:18 PM

Actually brandon ur talking about inflation if u take that into account then Gone with the Wind is actually number 1. and movies were not that cheap back when Titanic was out it was maybe 6.00

Posted By: Iceberg (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 06:21 PM

good god all mighty, titanic has finally been taken out

Posted By: marc (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 06:56 PM

Let's face it, whether you like it or not, Cameron is the fucking man.

Posted By: Guest#8925 (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 07:07 PM

Wow, look at how defensive people get when someone points out the statistical error in the statement "All-Time Domestic Gross Record." If you're going to say "All-Time" you really should adjust for inflation. In which case, it's at 21, very reputable, and probably could climb to the top all time in that category before it is done. So stop throwing a tantrum because people point out the truth. So sensitive..

avatar is a great movie.
unfortunately hollywood cant leave well enough alone.

expect meryl streep to star in the madame curie biopic in 3D!

Posted By: rey (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 08:52 PM

Avatar won't hold up on the small screen. But then again, Titanic doesn't hold up for more than one viewing.

Cameron is unlikeable, but he did give the world Terminator and made Arnold a star. So I'm glad he owns this record and not some overrated garbage like The Dark Knight.

FLAWLESS VICTORY!

Posted By: Guest#9686 (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 09:07 PM

Congrats to Avatar. Yes inflation helped it out, but with inflation factored in, it is still way up on the all time list (domestically). It may break the top ten before it is done. World-wide there is no stopping it. Sorry haters, but Avatar was an amazing experience that deserves everything it is getting. I hope Avatar 2 doesn't suck

Posted By: Someone with a brain (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 09:20 PM

We have had deflation, not inflation. Avatar's gross will be adjusted higher.

Posted By: Jim (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 09:44 PM

What's the big hubub about being the top domestic grosser? It was already the highest worldwide grosser, and I think that's a more important stat.

Posted By: G-Walla (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 09:46 PM

at least titanic is not the highest grossing movie of all time anymore. A great injustice has been undone

Posted By: Guest#2045 (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 09:49 PM

I really liked Avatar but is how much more money it earns than all the other high earning films anything more than a rather trivial piece of information. Why do people make this into such contentious subject?

Posted By: Guest#9347 (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 10:12 PM

Cue the queue of cues, queueing up to cue a queue of cubes.

Posted By: Q (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 10:36 PM

I remember paying 38 cents on the dollar to watch Gone With the Wind as it was playing at the Grand Ol' Opera. My gal would get dolled up as I shined my good shoes.

I've yet see this movie and I really doubt I will until its on Netflix. I have no desire to see this movie. I fucking HATE this Sci-Fi bullshit craze. Queer ass Transformers for the last two years. God awful Harry Potter and dreadful Lord of the Rings. Oh yea, Twilight which seems like a normal movie when you compare it to this shit.

Nerds complaining!? You mean the entire country becoming massive nerds. Dark Knight gets a pass because Batman has been around forever and isn't slammed with Sci Fi.

Posted By: m fisher (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 10:37 PM

easy to have superstar, record breaking money when the theaters your movie is geared to sells tickets that are up to twice the normal ticket price.

Posted By: Guest#8298 (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 11:16 PM

Avatar is a great mix of the Star Wars trilogy and Pocahontas with really great 3D, even if everyone has been bitching about 3D movies for months now.

it isn't worth the 2 billion it has made, but then again, most of that is overseas and in countries where you can buy used 4 year old girl panties from vending machines, still have the black plague or wipe out the entire village of those who publically oppose their government, so ya know...not necessarily the best audience to judge by.

Posted By: Guest#0326 (Guest)  on February 03, 2010 at 11:22 PM

I guess my theater was just cheaper than normal. I mean I only paid $3.75 when the first Resident Evil came out and that was several years after Titanic, I can't really remember seeing Titanic in theaters, I just remember the VHS. I bet there are tons of people who don't even know what a VHS is haha damn we have come a loooong way.

Posted By: Brandon (Guest)  on February 04, 2010 at 05:03 AM

at least titanic is not the highest grossing movie of all time anymore. A great injustice has been undone

Posted By: Guest#2045 (Guest) on February 03, 2010 at 09:49 PM

Amen to that.
inflation who cares Avatar is a great film and yes to the haters its story isnt original but atleast its watchable,Titanic was crud and that damn celene dion song raped my ears.

This is why the Academy is going to cave and give the best picture nod to this crap. I really want The Hurt Locker to win, but I don't think that is going to happen. At this point the Academy is choking on James Cameron's Smug. It's funny, his two worst movies are his biggest hits and money makers. Yeah, I just said that.

Posted By: tacosrambo (Guest)  on February 04, 2010 at 11:42 AM

One thing I wondered about this movie is how are they going to reproduse teh 3d thing when it comes out on dvd/blu ray?
