[Movies] Captain America To Be Cast Soon
Posted by Larry Csonka on 02.04.2010

- Joe Johnson, the director of the upcoming The First Avenger: Captain America recently spoke about about the film, here are the highlights…

On Casting Captain America: "We need to cast it soon," Johnston said. "We have a very short list, but we're still juggling actors here. I'd say within the next couple of weeks we'll have ourselves a Captain America, I hope."

On The Story: "It's the kind of thing where, while I'm not necessarily a comic-book fan, I think the interesting thing about this guy is that he's a superhero without any superpowers, basically. He is the epitome of human perfection. He can't fly and throw tanks around and see through walls and things like that, but he's strong and runs fast."

On Captain America Himself: "And the interesting thing about this guy is that he starts out as a 98-pound weakling and he becomes this Adonis. How does that affect his arc in the story? How does that affect where he goes and what happens to him and everything? I think that's the part of the story that was fascinating for me. And, of course, being a Marvel movie, there's fantastic action scenes in it and all kinds of great stuff. But there's an interesting story there as well."

- Shooting for the film begins in late June, and has a scheduled release date of July 22nd, 2011.

Nick Manning...It's a shame Peter North is too old... and Ron Jeremy is too old and fat...in the the late 70's he was in shape.. Who really gives a shit who plays Captain America?

Captain Awesome (Ryan McPartlin) would be Awesome as Captain America.

Cam Gigandet would also be a pretty good choice. He has a great screen presence and looks the part.

15 years ago Mark Valley would have been the only choice.

Wait... the director doesn't like Comic books? And claims Cap has no super powers? What do you call the Super Soldier Serum?

Oh yeah, Jensen Ackles would be bad ass.

"Wait... the director doesn't like Comic books? And claims Cap has no super powers? What do you call the Super Soldier Serum?"

The serum just made Cap the peak of human performance. Basically, it made him what he'd be if he were training and lifting weight constantly. It's not like how Spider-Man can pick up a car, Cap could pick up a small motorcycle.

But it does make him nearly inexhaustable, so I guess that's a power.
