[Movies] Wizard of Oz Remake?!
Posted by Ashish on 03.11.2010

Warner Bros. is considering remaking The Wizard of Oz. Two treatments are being discussed. The first, called Oz, is being produced by Temple Hill, one of the companies behind Twilight, and is being written by Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever After). The second is said to be a dark version of the story by Josh Olson (writer of A History of Violence) and focus on Dorothy's granddaughter returning to Oz to fight evil.

This is getting pathetic.

they could start the movie in "normal" then kick in the 3D one they get to Oz.
I think it will still fail.

Do either of these versions involve the Tin Man turning into a Giant Battle Mech which Dorothy pilots in battle against the Wicked Witch? Because if so I'm gonna start having to get lawsuit happy.

first one sounds hideous, second one sounds a bit better, neither will be a patch on the original.

Sounds like Tin Man.

Oh for the love of God no.

So long as they don't remake the Wiz.

i thought they already remade it 30 years ago, except it was full of colored people

If you MOTHERFUCKERS touch my childhood classic I was personally remove ALL of your testicles.

That is all.

Yeah good luck with that...

Either do it faithfully, classy modernized with the same story, or not at all. Boo-urns indeed.

If they do remake it I will have officially lost hope for humanity.

I hate to say that any movie is untouchable--but Wizard of Oz comes close. Make no mistake--if they remake this one, the studio is going to lose a shitload of money because no-fucking-body is going to want to see that--dark version or otherwise.

Posted By: Michael L (Guest)  on March 11, 2010 at 07:45 AM

Didn't they already make a darker version with 'The Wiz"!!???

Posted By: zing (Guest)  on March 11, 2010 at 08:21 AM

Why not just make Wicked into a movie?

Posted By: Horhay (Guest)  on March 11, 2010 at 08:26 AM

This is bullshit. You want to re-make old, shitty movies to try to make them successful, fine. Don't mess with the classics. If I see a Casablanca remake for example, I will literally break Hollywood Execs legs.
They would probably ruin the Wizard of Oz by having Laday Gaga play Dorothy while wearing a strap-on or something, and Perez Hilton plays the Good Witch.

*shakes head* writers and studios just don't know when to leave classic films alone. Pathetic. Absolutley pathetic.

I vote for the history of violence writer. They should make a remake of the WiZ.

they are running out of ideas, lol

Posted By: Rob (Guest)  on March 11, 2010 at 10:06 AM

It will sell massive tickets... but it's a bad bad bad bad bad idea.

I swear all the talent in Hollywood is gone.

Nothing is sacred.

As soon as they remake The Princess Bride I'm burning Hollywood to the ground.

why remake classics? why don't they remake shitty movies and make them better!

*cough* Alice in Wonderland *cough*

Leave it to the un-original bastards of hollywood to take only one of the greatest movies of all time and remake and fuck it up.

Posted By: Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Guest)  on March 11, 2010 at 11:36 AM

Um...this is one of the greatest screen classics of all time...anyone doing a remake is playing with fire.

Although a telling closer to the fucked-up tone of the book might be great.

Damn you morals!

If it ain't broke don't fix it. Heck we can throw Will Smith's son in as Todo and Jackie Chan as the scarecrow.

Posted By: Guest#0539 (Guest)  on March 11, 2010 at 12:14 PM

Jesus Christ, what's next? Are they gonna remake Jaws???

Posted By: Guest#2712 (Guest)  on March 11, 2010 at 12:45 PM

dammit, it seems like all you have to do is use the words; remake, reboot, or darker and you can get a piece of crap idea greenlit in Hollywood.
PS: zing's comment was aaaawesome

Yeah, this one should get a little grace for a couple reasons:

1. It's remaking a movie that's 70 years old. At that age, it's a lot more acceptable than, say the instant reboot of The Hulk or the new Americanized Death at a Funeral.

2. Oz was actually a series of like 12 books, so it's more than fair to make multiple movies involving the place.
