[Movies] Extended Avatar Could Be Re-Released In Theaters This Summer
Posted by Ashish on 03.12.2010

20th Century Fox is considering re-releasing a special extended edition of Avatar in theaters this summer. Director James Cameron is considering adding up to 12 minutes of extra footage including scenes showing Jake Sully's avatar proving himself to the Na'vi people and tribe member Tsu'tey getting drunk at a native festival.

The reason for the re-release is because many think Avatar's box office run was cut short because it was forced off many digital and IMAX 3D screens when Alice in Wonderland opened. Avatar was still earning significant money at the box office prior to Alice opening. James Cameron believes that this might have cost the movie another $200 million in box office revenue.

Who really wants to see Avatar again w/ the addition of 12 extra minutes. When scenes are cut from the movie, they do it so the movie flows along better.

pay 15 bucks for 12 more minutes? really? that's insulting our intelligence more than the movie itself.

I know my first thought when watching Avatar was that it was too short. Another 12 minutes would be refreshing....

Yup, sounds like footage worthy of another $15.

$200 million?! You've made back that budget, broken box-office records, won awards, done everything! Just lay back and relax, Cameron.

Fuck, as if the fucking movie wasn't long enough.

Posted By: I gonna see it again...NOT! (Guest)  on March 12, 2010 at 06:51 PM

Are you really paying $15 for just 12 minutes? I'm fairly certain they'll show the rest of the movie with it...

Works for me, since I didn't get to see it yet, and 3D is all but gone now from theaters.

Nope. Pass. Pass so very much.
(You've made your money. Ride off into the sunset, fellas.)

I haven't seen it yet...i was hoping to see it on imax or 3d, but was really busy in the past few months, so, yeah, if it came out again i'd go see it, and i bet lots of folks who saw it on standard format might go see it in one of the extended formats...

I may go see it again since I seem to be one of the seven people on the internet who really enjoyed the movie.

I LOVE Avatar!! It's one of the best movies that I have seen in a long time. I've seen the movie 8 times already, so if I was asked to go see it or if I wanted to go see it again...I would be there in a flash!!!
