A surprising return...

The Lionsgate publicity site has revealed the cast list and plot synopsis for Saw VII 3D, due out October 22. The cast contains one surprising return: Cary Elwes as Dr. Gordon.

Elwes sued his own management firm, which produced Saw, for unjust enrichment and alleged breach of contract. Since appearing as the doctor who diagnosed Jigsaw with cancer, and having to amputate his own leg to escape one of Jigsaw's death traps, Gordon's return to the franchise has been rumoured several times, and his fate has been debated heavily by fans.

The synopsis of the film says that "As a deadly battle rages over Jigsaw's brutal legacy, a group of Jigsaw survivors gathers to seek the support of self-help guru and fellow survivor Bobby Dagen, a man whose own dark secrets unleash a new wave of terror..."

Dagen will be played by Sean Patrick Flanery (The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Boondock Saints). Returning cast members include Tobin Bell as Jigsaw, Costas Mandylor as Hoffman, and Betsy Russell as Jigsaw's wife Jill. The newcomers are Gina Holden (Flash Gordon, Harper's Island) as Joyce; Chad Donella (Smallville, The Ghost Whisperer) as Gibson; Laurence Anthony plays Rogers; Dean Armstrong (Queer as Folk) as Cale; and Naomi Snieckus as Nina.
