[Movies] The Tree from The Shawshank Redemption May Have a Little Life Left
Posted by Chad Webb on 08.02.2011

Although many predicted the tree would soon die, apparently there may still be hope for the damaged oak tree in Ohio that was featured in The Shawshank Redemption.

If you recall it was split in half after a strong storm hit north-central Ohio last week and people in Mansfield were not very optimistic.

Now it seems a rep for the Mansfield Convention and Visitors Bureau has stated the community is trying to formulate a plan to "somehow preserve it" because it has become a major tourist attraction. The rep says: "We highly encourage folks who want to see the tree in its natural location to visit now, while part of it remains standing."

Officials will meet with the owners of the property over the next few weeks to see what can be done.
