[Movies] Denis Leary Talks The Amazing Spider-Man Posted by Joseph Lee on 08.06.2011
What does he think of Andrew Garfield?
Denis Leary spoke at the Television Critics Association press tour while promoting the final episodes of Rescue Me. He discussed The Amazing Spider-Man while there.
He joked that he planned to "ride Spider-Man. I'm doing Spider-Man 4, 5 and 6!"
When asked about Andrew Garfield, he said: "I love Andrew. He's terrific in the role. He was trained as a gymnast growing up, which came in handy. Most of the stunts in the movie are done live in front of the cameras. Andrew's just a terrific actor – I really loved working with him. I think he's great. Same thing with Emma. They're both actually more mature than I am and that says a lot right there. They're really incredibly talented and really professional. She's 22 years old. I don't want to tell you what I was doing when I was 22. I was very impressed by her."
He also said George Stacy wouldn't use a cane like the comics, and admitted he wasn't familiar with the comic books: "I'm more of a Batman guy. Not the 60s – but the really dark Batman. But my wife was a Spider-Man nut, which was why I went to Tobey Maguire ones. But the thing I liked… I have a good friend, Jeff Garlin, who's a Spider-Man freak and he was the first guy who said to me, 'The first time I met you, I thought you were George Stacy!' This was like 30 years ago. I was like, 'What?!' And he had an old comic book frame that he had saved – he showed it to me on his computer. I was like, 'You're sick!' And he was like, 'No, I'm a Spider-Man freak. People take this very seriously!"
He concluded by saying the tone was very different from the Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire films.
