UPDATE x2: Series writer James Robinson had the following comments on the announcement…
"I'm very proud to be introducing Alan Scott into DC COMICS-THE NEW 52. He was my favorite Golden Age character and one I'm very familiar with so I'm really excited to be updating him for a contemporary readership. Oh, and on Earth 2 there is only one Green Lantern, so Alan's title is The Green Lantern. Alan's sexuality is just one facet of him, along with his innate goodness, valor, charisma and skill at leadership that makes him the perfect man to wield the power of the green light in the world of Earth 2."
UPDATE: One Million Moms released a statement on the announcement, stating the following…
"Why do adult gay men need comic superheroes as role models? They don't but do want to indoctrinate impressionable young minds by placing these gay characters on pedestals in a positive light."
GLAAD fired back at that comment with the following…
"The idea that a comic book character will make young people gay is as outlandish as saying it will give them a green power ring and the ability to fly. Even more outlandish is the idea that there are 'one million moms' who believe this hate group's anti-gay nonsense. From Christian churches to sports fields, to now even fictional comic book worlds, our culture overwhelmingly supports gay and lesbian Americans and that's what anti-gay groups like this are working against."
ORIGINAL: TMZ reports that DC Comics has announced that the character who will be revealed as gay will be Green Lantern Alan Scott.
Scott also had a makeover and is now a lot younger than his previous incarnation. Previously Scott was married with two kids. Now he's an unmarried media mogul who is a Type-A.
