The director no longer with the project...
Vulture reports that director David Fincher is no longer attached to direct the planned biopic on Cleopatra with Angelina Jolie set to star in the title role.
Fincher and Sony have apparently broken talks. And Sony is now looking at Ang Lee as a potential directing candidate for the project. Lee is currently working on Life of Pi.
Vulture says talks between Fincher and Sony have "broken off" and the studio is now eying director Ang Lee (whose upcoming Life of Pi is garnering a lot of Oscar buzz). There is no clear reason why Fincher has left the project and Fincher's current relationship with Sony might be cloudy. It is unknown how that might affect Fincher's standing to direct The Girl Who Played With Fire, the planned sequel to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo which Fincher directed for Sony.
Other potential candidates for Cleopatra are reported to be Paul Greengrass and James Cameron. The Cameron choice is likely unrealistic due to his commitments to the Avatar franchise and sequels.
