Who should get it?
The Daily Express reports that Christina Hendricks and Jenny McCarthy are both up for the role of former stripper, centerfold model and reality star Anna Nicole Smith in a biopic. It has been five years since she died of a drug overdose at the age of 39.
Lifetime is planning a biopic about her rise to fame, addition and alcoholism.
A source said: "They are neck and neck. The producers love them both and it could come down to a final audition to determine who will get one of the most sought-after parts in Hollywood right now. Both women really wowed the producers, who were especially bowled over by how strikingly similar Christina with a blonde wig looked to Anna Nicole."
James Cromwell (The Artist) is close to signing to play Anna Nicole's husband and Texas billionaire J Howard Marshall, who died fourteen months after marrying Smith. He was 90 when he died.
Anna Nicole Smith had been in a legal battle with his family over the fortune he left and starred in a reality series to pay the bills. The biopic (which shoots before Christmas) will also focus on her son Daniel, who died at the age of 20 from a drug-related heart attack, six months before his mother died in a Florida hotel room.
Friends hoped the film would show her "sensitive side". Actress Isabella Rapone said: "She was anything but the gold-digger many people perceived her as. She worshipped the ground her son walked on. I think if he hadn't died so young, Anna Nicole might well be alive today. His death plunged her into a terrible depression and it was as if she simply gave up."
