[TV] Ron Moore Adapting A Knight's Tale For Television
Posted by Joseph Lee on 09.21.2012

Deadline reports that Ron Moore (Battlestar Galatica developer/executive producer) will be adapting the 2001 Heath Ledger film A Knight's Tale into a drama series for ABC with Sony Pictures TV.

The film was set in the 14th century and it was set in the world of jousting set to popular rock songs. The film followed William Thatcher (Ledger), a peasant posing as a knight. The series will stay close to the premise and style of the film. It is being called a "medieval fantasy" with modern music and themes that "follows the journey of a young man who starts out impersonating a knight of the realm and ends up becoming one."

Moore will write the script and executive produce with his producing partner at Tall Ship Prods. Maril Davis as well as the film's writer/director/producer Brian Helgeland and producer Todd Black. The film, part of the Sony library, was Ledger's first lead role and was produced by Columbia Pictures. It was a huge success and made Ledger a star.

This is all a part of Moore's new deal with Sony TV that he signed in March. ABC already has one fantasy drama in Once Upon A Time and another in development called A Kingdom Far Away, from writer Justin Marks and di Bonaventura Television. Sony TV is working on a series based on Beverly Hills Cop with Shawn Ryan writing/executive producing and Eddie Murphy exec producing and potentially recurring. There is already a pilot commitment for CBS.
