While Looper is looking decent...
Hotel Transylvania is headed toward a win at the box office this weekend. Variety reports that the Adam Sandler-led animated film is headed toward a $33 million to $35 million weekend, according to very early estimates. The opening would be a major improvement over Sandler's last two films, Jack & Jill ($20 million opening) and That's My Boy ($13.4 million). It could also end up the highest opening ever for Sony Pictures Animation if it can top The Smurfs' $35.6 million.
Meanwhile, Looper is looking for an $18.5 million opening weekend, which gives it a shot at being a success. The film had a $30 million budget and strong reviews and word of mouth should help, though it faces some tough competition over the next couple weeks with Taken 2 and Argo.
Finally, Fox's Won't Back Down is off to a slow start and should end up with a disappointing $4.5 million for the weekend.
