Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood, Battleship) is the front-runner to play the lead in Tarzan. Variety reports that director David Yates and Warner Bros. are eyeing Skarsgard for the role but hasn't made an offer yet, as the film has not been greenlit at this time. The greenlight is expected to go through though and a summer start date is being considered.
The film will be a retelling of the Edgar Rice Burroughs tale, with Skarsgard playing John Clayton III, better known as Tarzan. Years after he's re-assimilated into society, Clayton is asked by Queen Victoria to investigate events in the Congo and teams with an ex-mercenary named George Washington Williams to go up against a warlord who controls a massive diamond mine.
Samuel L. Jackson is reportedly up for the role of Williams.
