What's the story?
Comic Book News reports that a source at DC Entertainment has provided them with information regarding Green Lantern 2. The site, which previously revealed details from Man of Steel that ended up proving true via Comic-Con footage, reports that the sequel's story comes from Greg Berlanti, Marc Gruggenheim and Michael Green with Michael Goldenburg writing the first draft script.
The site reports that most of the film is set in space and starts off with Hal Jordan and Sinestro pairing up to stop an intergalactic serial killer named Arkillo. Sinestro later frees Arkillo to join his Corps; Sinestro decides to leave the GLC because of his distrust of the Guardians as well as his belief that the Green Lantern Corps are a joke to the universe.
Sinestro recruits from War World and frees Amon Sur, recruiting him as well; there is reference to Amon Sur's attempt to destroy the GLC as chronicled in the comics and the video game Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters. Sinestro kidnaps Carol Ferris to draw Hal Jordan in and when Hal asks the Guardians to deploy the GLC to rescue Carol and defeat Sinestro, they refuse. He then asks the whole of the Corps via his ring and several hundred respond, resulting in a battle between the two Corps above Korugar.
Hal, Kilowog and Tomar-Re then use the battle as a distraction, allowing them to get to the surface of the planet to rescue Carol. They are confronted by Sinestro, Arkillo and Amon Sur; Hal and Sinestro are evenly matched while Kilowog defeats Arkillo, and Tomar-Re defeats Amon Sur Carol is rescued. Meanwhile, the battle between the two Corps ends with the Sinestro Corps retreating.
The site also claims that there is foreshadowing for a third film, with the Guardians discussing a "War of Light" that is coming. Finally, it says that Ryan Reynolds, Mark Strong, Blake Lively, Geoffrey Rush are all contracted to return while Kevin Michael Richardson is expected to replace the late Michael Clarke Duncan as the voice of Kilowog.
None of this is confirmed, so of course take it with a grain of salt.
