[TV] The Simpsons To Film Old Judd Apatow Script
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 11.21.2012

Judd Apatow's old script for The Simpsons is getting turned into an episode the show over twenty years after it was originally written. Apatow spoke with Conan O'Brien and says that the episode, which features Homer being hypnotized and believing that he's ten years old, was written back during the show's first season on spec (i.e. without being commissioned) before he was the famous creator of The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up and other shows.

"I was talking about the story that I wrote, which is about Homer taking the family to a hypnotism show, and he's put under to think he was 10, then the hypnotist has a heart attack," Apatow told O'Brien in the interview, which you can see below. "For the rest of the show him and Bart are best friends. Then they go on the run because Homer doesn't want to be woken up and have to have responsibilities. He loves being a kid. Then I realized everything I've done for my whole career is basically that story."

He says that after he told the story about the old episode, he got a call from the producers of the show saying that they would like to use the story in a future episode; the episode will be filmed next year. "So now I can retire," Apatow says. "That was the first thing I ever wrote."
