[Movies] Avengers, Spider-Man and Dark Knight Rises Competing in Visual Effects Oscar Race

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has officially announced that the following films have made the latest cut for the Best Visual Effects category for the Oscars. All members of the Visual Effects branch of the Academy will be able to view ten-minute cuts of each of the below films on January 3rd, after which the field will be cut to five nominees:

* The Amazing Spider-Man
* Cloud Atlas
* The Dark Knight Rises
* The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
* John Carter
* Life of Pi
* Marvel's The Avengers
* Prometheus
* Skyfall
* Snow White and the Huntsman

The Oscar nominations will be announced on January 10th with the award ceremony taking place on February 24th, 2013.
