[TV] CBS Greenlights Stephen King's Under the Dome
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 11.29.2012

The Hollywood Reporter says CBS is developing Stephen King's Under the Dome as a TV series for 2013.

The property has been given a "straight to series" order by the network, bypassing the usual pilot order and consideration. The book has been kicked around since mid-2011, and at one time Showtime was going to air it. CBS has now taken the reigns of the project and will air 13 episodes next summer.

Niels Arden Oplev, director of the Swedish original version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movie, will direct the first episode. Brian K. Vaughn, creator of Y, The Last Man, is going to adapt the story for the screen.

The book tells the story of a small town in Maine that is cut off from the rest of the world by an invisible dome. With resources dwindling, the society in the town starts to break down.
