His hockey film will be a mini-series...
Kevin Smith has announced that what he planned to be his final film, the hockey film Hit Somebody, will instead be a miniseries and that he is revisiting his most famous franchise as a result. Smith said on the Jay & Silent Bob Get Old podcast that the film, which was originally planned to be a two-part feature, will now be a miniseries after he was talked out of making it a film by producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who has apparently had his own problems getting a hockey movie made.
Smith had thought to cut the film down to just one film, but said that was not possible. "It plays like a novel," Smith said of the script. He then continued, "I started restructuring Hit Somebody [as a mini-series]...we've now drawn in on the close of this." He noted that they would be going in production next year.
That leaves Smith with one film left in his career, by his reckoning; he had previously said that Hit Somebody would be his last film. He has revealed over Twitter what film that will be, posting:
"So with the HIT SOMEBODY shift, the minute Jeff Anderson signs on, my last cinematic effort as a writer/director will be CLERKS III. #TaDA
