[TV] Jason Segel Unlikely to Return For a Ninth Season of How I Met Your Mother
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 12.10.2012

How I Met Your Mother may be reaching the end of its run this season. Deadline reports that Jason Segel is not likely to return, though he has not completely ruled it out. Segel has had an increasingly popular film career since the show's 2005 launch and while the series is in negotiations, he may not be back.

That would possibly mean the end of the series, as creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas (who, along with the rest of the leads are also in negotiations) said at the beginning of the current season that they would not want to continue without all five reguar leads in Segel, Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan. At this point, it is up to CBS to convince Segel to return as well as the remainder of the cast; the show remains one of CBS' highest-rated sitcoms.
