[Movies] Creator Of Giantkiller Complains About Pacific Rim Posted by Joseph Lee on 12.13.2012
They're very similar...
The creator of the 1999 mini-series Giantkiller, Dan Brereton (also the creator of The Nocturnals), recently posted on Facebook about the similarities of his work and Guillermo del Toro's new film Pacific Rim.
He wrote: "I know quite a few of you have seen GIANTKILLER, and read it, but I'm a little glum about a certain giant-monster movie being promoted right now that bears a huge resemblance to my 1999 mini-series, coming along and hurting our existing screenplay for the movie adaptation of my kaijus-from-a-wormhole story. If you haven't seen it yet, pick up the TPB, published by Image comics, and see for yourself... It's a lushly-illustrated yarn about giant monsters (All listed in a field guide book naming them alphabetically like hurricane systems) threatening the San Francisco Bay Area, in the wake of a wormhole opening in the bowels of nearby volcanic Mt. Diablo- the military is useless against them, so the army creates a kaiju-human hybrid naked Jack, trained as a samurai warrior by his Japanese creator, to combat them one on one: a monster created to battle monsters....sound familiar? I know there is nothing new under the sun, but it still bums me out and makes me want to topple buildings...or my old middle school.
